  1. I wish people would stop with this 10 men nonsense, it's not as if it was Arsenal or man c or even Wigan who pass the ball around for fun and therefore would miss the 11th player and not be as effective. Having 10 men only really affects Stoke when they're using every man to close out a game. They aren't going to miss a central midfielder when chasing the game as they bypass the midfield and hoof it to the 4 up front. Only having 10 makes very little difference when they're playing **** or bust football. Just take the point and move on.
  2. Every single team in the league would take a point at Stoke, even your Man Utd's, Man City's and Chelsea's. People need to get a grip. Guly missed an easy one, so did Jones. Obvious peno and also very harsh sending off, great strike for the 3rd. Villa, Reading and Wigan still have to go to Stoke, all 3 will take a point. It was a point gained, end of.
  3. I am not one for normally posting inside info, because I never really have any. However in this case a member of my family knows a member of his family , my family member was told mid Feb. I can't post any more because it involves someones job, but I believe them.
  4. I'm just hoping it's 5th time lucky with the posting. I've been to 4 away games and so far I've had 2 envelopes open, one to wrong address and one didn't make it at all, had to tickets up at away office before game. I'm sure it's pretty simple to post something in this day and age, but they seem to struggle
  5. My opinion is that Lowe did the bare minimum that we could have expected from the floating of the club, certainly a lot less than someone with money could have done. I look back on the whole reverse takeover as a wasted opportunity, had the right person come in we really could have seen a real take off of the club. As it was the only good thing about Lowe was he didn't screw up ala Risdale or Storrie , but just think what a Marcus or NC would have done.
  6. Nonsense, Puncheon produced a couple of nutmegs in the very same game yesterday and the shot was hardly in the Le Tiss class. It should have been a comfortable save but the keeper made a pigs ear out of it. Personally I think Lallana, Puncheon, and Lambert could have done it, and Guly has been known to produce the occasional nutmeg. I keep hearing he's absolute class, but from what I've seen he's been very average and if we hadn't paid so much money for him would have had a spell warming his arse on the bench by now.
  7. Wonderful internet system has screwed up again, 9.20am and cant buy tickets. Spoke to club and the IT department are working on a fix.............
  8. Will the sacking of OD make Billy a better player? Does anyone seriously think there's any Premiership club interested in signing Billy Sharp.Personally I thought he struggled last season, and he's hardly set the Championship alight this season. Why is there an obsession with old players returning on here.
  9. He's played 20 league games and scored the grand total of 6 goals. If anybodt really believes he is the answer then I do wonder what planet they're on. ****hing hell even David Nugent's got nearly double that. There is not one Premiership side that would be looking at signing Billy Sharp, not even Reading.
  10. For once I do agree with you. We seem to lack leaders, we lacked leaders when we last went down and we're lacking them now. There's no Jimmy Case out there and nobdy jumps out at me, but we pay lots of money for scouts, they need to start earning it.
  11. It is hard to get people in who will add value and add Premiership experiance. I really think we need a striker, centre half, keeper and a flying winger. We've gone down the young championship striker route with Jay Rod, cant see NC autherising another one like that. So who are we left with up front that someone will sell and will guantee a return. There's one I can see, Bent and I dont think we'll be in the market for him. As well as the centre halfs have done recently, would hate to have to rely on Jos as cover. Maybe we can pick someone like Dann or Roger Johnson up. Keeper should be the easy one. Out wide, would love Phillips or Ince, but you really do pay over the odds in Jan, will NC do that? I'm really hoping our scouts have picked out a good overseas player that'll make an immidate impact. Maybe we could get someone like Stephen Ireland or Dunne on loan as they seem out of favour, but personally I doubt we'll be breaking the bank.
  12. I remember reading an article where a sides keeper (I think it was a League 1 side but cant remember) announced himself on a fans forum. The other posters didn't believe him, so the keeper said he would do something he didn't normally do and they asked him to kick the post twice before taking his first goal kick. Sure enough he did it, thus proving he was who he said he was. Another player also posted on the forum and he too asked asked what he could do that was out of character to prove who he was. "Pass to one of your own players" was the answer he got................
  13. Watching BBC 4 last night, there were a couple of programmes celebrating Slade. I really had forgotten just how good these guys were. It was hit after hit after hit. Maybe it's a longing back to my child hood but I really dont think these guys got the credit they deserve. Anyone else agree, or I'm a just a tipsy old fart tonight? [video=youtube;-QlsqyxUkro]
  14. Had we spent the £12mil more wisely we may well have.
  15. Heard Lawrie once say it was Peter Osgood, not particulary for his performances, but the signal it sent out. If you're judging it in terms of value for money, I'd go with Mark Wright.
  16. Shiete today. Disagree with others, I thought SDR did ok as a sub. Made a bit of an impact, certainly did as much as Gaston and Pucheon. Thought the 2 center halfs did ok again, and Shaw was steady. Typical martin O Neil performance, didn't play aprticulary well, but won. When do we do that? Play poorly and we lose. Unless we start getting a bit of mental toughness and dig out a couple of results, we're going down.
  17. How the **** did you miss from there, even Guly would have burried that one.
  18. Based on what? The fee? His reputation? Personally, I've yet to see he's our "most talented" player. If you ask me, he flatters to deceive. Maybe he'll come good, maybe he wont, but he has not done anything to indicate to me he's worth £12mil. The past few games he's played, he's been really really average. I suggest that had we not paid £12mil for him, he'd be sat on the bench by now. Surely as a supporter of 40 years, I'm alowed an opinion on players and as a member of this forum I'm allowed to reply to threads. The OP asked if he was good value, at the moment I dont think he is, you do-great, let's hope you're right and I'm wrong. But with Adam out, we needed him to stand up and be counted today and personally I think he went AWOL.
  19. Don't you just love one eyed football supporters? One half against villa, when everyone played well, and people are coming in their pants over him. If he's worth the money we paid then my cocks a carrot. Guly gets a load of clog, but this guy is supposed to be a star. Stop with the excuses , he has been really average. He was shocking today.
  20. The problem I have with it all was the Saville enquiry was one sided appeasement of the republican side. There were 2 sets of people bearing arms that day, the British army, and the Ira. I find it sickening that the Brits face more charges and yetthe leader of the republicans that day, a man it is alledged fired the first shot, is made Education minister.
  21. Geoffrey Boycott always says that in sport you should do what the opposition least want you to do when making decisions. What would Martin O Neil prefer, to know that Adam definitely won't play or to be left wondering whether he'll make the line up, same with jol on boxing day. I've no doubt they would rather know than not know. In the modern game sides are coached and coached to death, maybe too much so, but sides will definitely make plans around defending and whether Adam plays will make a difference. It may only make a tiny difference, but tiny differences can make a huge impact. After the 6-1 Manchester derby Ferguson said that Utd should have shut up shop at 3-1 down, took the 3-1 defeat and moved on , instead of chasing the game. A small detail, but they lost the league on goal difference. Any advantage however slight can add up, surely knowing a sides captain and one of it's stars is out, is a slight advantage, from having to guess.
  22. Shouldn't compare Paisley with the other 2, he was never a member of any terriorist organsation. The reason the soliders are being hung out to dry is very simple. It's all part of the surrender terms (sorry peace procees).
  23. As Davd Davis said on yesterdays Daily Politics, a defence lawyer would have a field day if this evidence was brought before a judge. From watching the cctv there was clearly no crowd, there was clearly not enough time for Mitchell to say all that was claimed in the report. It is also a fact that an officer not even there claimed he was and was a member of the public, it was also a fact that the police log book was leaked to the press. Mitchell has always claimed he swore but never said pleb, the only claim that he said pleb was from a discredited police source. How on earth anybody can reach the conclusion that he did say pleb is beyond me. There is not a court in the land that would back the police in this instance.
  24. I think the beeching report was one of the biggest balls Ups this country has made in the last 100 years. Instead of closing branch lines we should have been extending them and modernising. I am against government getting involved with the running of most things , but the transport system and infrastructure is one thing they should be running, even in a "hands off" way. To get people out of cars and onto trains is a no brainer
  25. It's pretty serious IMO. Police making things up to bring down a cabinet minister, and in Downing Street FFS. Left or right, everybody should be concerned about that. Mitchell is the worst type of Tory, a wet Camerony who once said right wing things to get selected, but since he's turned all Ted Heathism. However, forget about the personalities involved, if the police would fit up a cabinet minister, what hope for the likes of you and me. There are thousends of decent coppers, but the leadership and the behaviour of the minority taint the force (or service as I believe the lefties call it). The police govern by consent, and yet bit by bit they are losing respect and public confidence. What we need is some old fashioned coppers leading them and not a load of pinkies who think they're social workers.
