If no big club is interested then he might end up knocking around on loan at some middling European club, which isn’t what he wants. Yes, whatever you think of benefits as a concept, Universal Credit is administered in a way which is relatively arbitrary and illogical, which leads to hardship that wouldn’t occur if the rules made more sense. And transition from old benefits to Universal Credit has also been arbitrary and illogical. If you’re going to have a benefit safety net then it needs to be logical and effective otherwise you’re just ****ing money away to no end.
