  1. In order to replace MP?
  2. 20 years ago may have been fair, but with the vast amount of money involved now it would be rather unfair (in my opinion) if a team finishing sixth, 20 points behind third for example, scrapes through the playoffs. Knowing something in advance doesn't necessarily make it fair. If we can't scrap the playoffs at least give the third placed team a big advantage. Playing the second leg of a semi-final at home isn't a big enough reward IMHO.
  3. You can't compare American playoffs with promotion to the PL. If an American team screws up not making the playoffs they shrug their shoulders and try again the next year. Here not getting promoted (or getting relegated) means the difference between 50 or more million (and that's just in the short term). Life or death basically. Having said that, I can't see the Championship playoffs being scrapped. So I would suggest a fairer system: 5th plays a one-off against 6th (at home). The winner plays another one-off away to 4th. The winner of that meets 3rd at Wembley. That way 3-6 make the playoffs, but each higher position gets a significant advantage.
  4. So, any news? I want to get hysterical.
  5. Cambridge must be quaking in their boots. I feel sorry for them, they are probably wishing they never went up. Had to post on page 1959, year of my birth. Make sure, younger nutjobs, that you do the same over the coming months, as we hurtle towards the mythical page 2000.
  6. ^ This.
  7. FA Cup Final Arsenal vs. S̶o̶u̶t̶h̶a̶m̶p̶t̶o̶n̶ Hull I think I'll watch the big La Liga match instead.
  8. That's exactly what the ruddy-cheeked bastard did to Nigel Pearson. As his luvvies kept reminding us, he didn't actually sack the "bootboy".
  9. I have to reluctantly cheer on Derby now. At least Billy the Bastard isn't their manager.
  10. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/international/when-is-the-england-world-cup-2014-squad-announced-9333470.html The England manager will announce his 23-man squad, as well as seven further players on standby, on Monday May 12 at the Luton base of England sponsor, Vauxhall. Fifa's deadline for the final squads is June 2 and England can make any necessary changes up until this date.
  11. Come on, how many predictions did he get right? If he predicts we win one week and we lose, and the next week predicts we lose and we win, he's got both predictions wrong but has the correct points total.
  12. Nice words from Shearer about Rickie. Are you listening Roy? Shearer: Take Lambert to Brazil Rickie Lambert should be on the World Cup plane to Brazil to give England an edge from the penalty spot and provide a Plan B in support of Wayne Rooney, according to former captain Alan Shearer. More at http://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/article/165/9304842/world-cup-alan-shearer-urges-england-boss-roy-hodgson-to-pick-southampton-striker-rickie-lambert Just hope the donkey doesn't get the winner against Citeh tomorrow, grabbing the headlines, and undeservedly putting himself in contention.
  13. It's also illegal here in the California. But gas (petrol) stations have a cunning way around it, and maybe the Cheats are following suit. Instead of charging more for credit/debit versus cash, they charge the "regular" price if you pay with credit/debit, and give you a "discount" if you pay by cash. In other words, instead of paying more if paying by credit/debit, you are paying less if paying by cash. And yes, this is really true.... “No retailer…may impose a surcharge on a cardholder who elects to use a credit card in lieu of payment by cash, check or similar means…” Statute: Cal. Civ. Code § 1748.1(a) (West) Discounts for Cash Payments are allowed in California “A retailer may, however, offer discounts for the purpose of inducing payment by cash, check or other means not involving the use of a credit card, provided that the discount is offered to all prospective buyers.” Statute: Cal. Civ. Code § 1748.1(a) (West) Statutes cover:Credit Cards only Statute: (Cal. Civ. Code § 1747.02(a) (West) (defining “credit card”))
  14. Finally, mystery solved who's been doing these.
  15. And now we've got a better logo than everyone else, and a lot cheaper too.
  16. £150m and not a penny less.
  17. Just saw a replay of the Liverpool goals. My God, the arrogance when they scored. Instead of celebrations (especially after the 3rd) they rush to pick up the ball from the net for a quick restart: in a hurry to get another, typically what teams do when scoring but still behind, not when winning. I bet that disrespect fired up the Palace players, and no wonder they surged back in the last 10 minutes.
  18. I was thinking the same thing, Bear. Hockey coaches make 4 or 5 subs every 2 minutes or so, whereas football coaches only have to do at most 3 every 90 minutes. With an NHL game lasting 60 minutes that means about 150 subs versus 3 in football. Not only that, they play 82 matches in a season, plus playoffs, versus football's 38 plus cups. So MP should be only be paid about 1/100th an NHL coach gets. I'm sure RK is working on this as we speak.
  19. Have to agree, except that Wilde did do something of note: he helped lead us into administration. As has already been noted here, actions speak louder than words.
  20. There's a certain amount of truth in that. What we don't know is why this is the case.
  21. Did he mention that Canada won the hockey gold medal?
  22. The whole Palace team has improved (dramatically) under Pulis.
  23. Next up, which way would you prefer to die: poison, hanging or electrocution?
  24. Agreed it's a bit early to write Liverpool off, and it's weird to see their players crying after going top of the league again. Villa are no slouches away from home (as we found out) and Big Fat Sam's team know how to park the bus (as we and Chelski found out). Whereas Liverpool should have no problem dispatching a poor Newcastle side.
