"Sports Republic" and "elite" don't really belong in the same sentence.

Spot on. I find it irritating that the anti-lockdown conspiracy theorists only talk about mortality rates (still a magnitude factor higher than flu, BTW), and having to lockdown just to save Granny. All the while ignoring the fact that hospitals around the world were being overwhlemed, and the horror of long Covid which is widespread (and not reflected in the "low" mortality rate data). Why would governments around the world impose economic chaos just to save Granny, FFS? Boris and the rest of the bellends partied because they are anti-science morons, just like Trump and his Republican fascist party.

Maybe they are worried about the ridicule they'll get from those photos or videos, in a few months time, if he turns out to be as bad as their previous two disastrous appointments.
-
Kent are doing a Hants from last year, tearing it up after a bad start.
-
7 defeats in 8 league matches will take some doing! But mid table mediocrity is more likely, and nowhere near what we need.
-
I'm loudly confident it will be.
-
Yep. He can't be as bad as Jones, mainly because we are playing against weaker teams (even Jones did ok at this level, FFS). Plus as a player he played at a decent level, unlike the tosser from the small Welsh village with a PE teacher's whistle in his mouth. So that can help getting respect from the players. All signs are that he can take us to mid table mediocrity, but not much higher. Which is great for PL, but nowhere near what we want now, of course.

The can try to explain it as many times as they like, until they are blue in the face. But it doesn't change the fact that it was bleeding obvious to anyone with half a brain that he was an appallingly bad choice (no hindsight required), and it shows they (looking at you in particular, Rasmus W. Ankersen) haven't a clue how to run a football club (at least the footballing part of one).
-
Well he has definitely unofficially been in charge of recruitment. Nathan F**king Jones was 100% Rasmus W. Ankersen's appointment. He's trying to keep a low profile after that (and many more) clusterf**ks. I wouldn't be surprised if he's using a plausible deniability tactic in this hire. And I missed the Saints official announcment that Wilcox (who officially joined Saints a few days ago?) was the driving force in Martin's appointment. Yes he released a positive statement about him, but he's hardly going to say that Martin's shit, and we could've done a lot better, is he?
-
Only one? I’d prefer at least ten.
-
I think they’ve set Wilcox up as the fall guy if Martin is another flop. Of course the problem for them there is SR appointed Wilcox.
-
And now he gets his hat trick! Well deserved. North Macedonia aren't Brazil, but they knocked Italy out of the WC. England are making them look like P*mpey.
-
What a goal! Brilliant pass from TAA and fantastic finish from Saka. England should play at OT more often, they've been excellent so far.
-
Actually it was Leicester who finished 18th. And only they have a case against Everton, not Leeds or us.
-
I'm not sure about that. His team selections and tactics suggest otherwise.
-
You should make that into a poem!
-
Not really. Koeman hasn't done much since leaving us, and most would agree he was very good when he was here. Same with Adkins, Alan Ball, etc.
-
I hope so. Didn't he join Saints just recently, and after Martin had already been chosen? We'll find out sooner or later how much of an input he had in that choice.
-
Spot on. Thank you for sparing me having to write that. But trying to reason with the anti Puel mob is like pissing in the wind.
-
I would feel much better if that were true, but I'm far from convinced. Wasn't Martin in the frame before Wilcox was appointed? It may be that he approved the choice upon arrival (did he have much choice?), but for me this appointment has R. W. Ankersen's fingerprints all over it (hopefully I'm wrong). It certainly suits R. W. Ankersen to have it widely perceived that Martin's a Wilcox decision in case it goes tits up (again). On the other hand if Martin does well I wouldn't be surprised to see R. W. Ankersen claiming credit, and pasting it all over his self-idolising website (with his own domain, rasmusankersen.com FFS!)
-
While he may not be as bad as some Swans fans think, all signs are he’s at best a mediocre Championship manager. But Rasmus W. Ankersen with his f***ing spreadsheets thinks he’s found his Thomas Frank. Just like he thought he did with that disaster known as Nathan Jones.
-
Therein lies the problem.
-
Maybe they don't, and just want to squeeze as much compensation out of us as possible?
-
At least there's no shortage of toilet paper.
-
In fairness that doesn't mean much, since Selles was clueless.
