  1. Alternatively, all we need are four 1-0 wins.
  2. Remind me ... who put in the cross from the bye line for Long to score in the replay against Norwich?
  3. Try clicking not on the white arrow on the blue background in the centre but on the two arrows that make up a square pattern, next to the badge and the name alexkunawicz
  4. Yes, PEH is in view and the three surging forward at pace in the 92nd minute - PEH, Simms and Long - were the three subs.
  5. A wonderful evening and a mention to Cedric for making a controlled header for Sims to make the run for the goal. A huge hoof up the pitch to clear and win us a few seconds break would have been understandable, so hats off to Cedric for initiating the move. There were times in the late second-half, nervous though I was, that the way our defence was laid out it looked well nigh impossible for any opposition to find any space. Liverpool could keep possession and pass it left, right, left, back to right again ... they were going nowhere, no penetration.

  7. Pawel Gil - the Polish referee who officiated the home match with Inter. There is a problem, however, as just about every decision he made, or didn't make, for the benefit/disadvantage of both sides was bewildering. Sometimes he blew up for the merest touch, at other times he let what appeared to be full-blooded assault pass by without punishment. Quite how the players from Inter and Saints managed was a mystery. In sharp contrast was Paolo Tagliavento from Italy who controlled the HBS game superbly.
  8. One of the more disappointing features of the debate in the run up to the referendum was the confusion, obfuscation, bewildering promises and the like employed by both sides. Whether it was George Osborne and his fearful predictions or, perhaps more famously, the Leave campaign and the £350million a week to the NHS - the electorate was poorly served. Some forum posters might like to hear a discussion on the concept of veracity and whether we are living in a post-truth world that was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 this morning. It is about 45 minutes in length so settle down with a cuppa and take the phone off the hook and don't be put off by the colour of the presenter's hair. The New World - Nothing But The Truth
  9. Although the dives by Boufal and Tadic may have lacked quality, they made up for it in the quantity. Embarrassing.
  10. Their second goal was one of the best finishes I have ever seen. Amongst other things, I go to see a football match to be entertained and I feel very short changed by the disgraceful time-wasting tactics employed by WBA ... but at least I got to see the Goal of the Season.
  11. I can't think of a specific 'Saints pub' in Ryde and there aren't many with Sky but The Crown will almost certainly be showing the match. The Crown is in the centre of town (St Thomas's Square, where the High St joins Union St) ... I watched a Saints game there a couple of years ago - several Saints fans were visibly present and no obvious Pompey fans. A couple of miles to the west, on the main road into Newport, is The Sloop. I believe this has Sky.
  12. I very much doubt if the electorate voted to carry on paying money to Brussels. After all, that £350million per week it apparently cost us to be an EU member is specifically earmarked for the NHS.
  13. Just seen the recorded highlights of the Channel 5 show - the presenter, George Riley ... I like the cut of his jib; lots of positive things about Saints and he didn't fall into the 'under strength Arsenal' trap and likewise the match commentator who had a similar approach. From those highlights, we looked very neat, stylish and at times, marvellous.
  14. Another favourite SRL-playing-for-England moment was his inch-perfect chipped pass for Welbeck to score the third goal against Moldova. Tiger Woods would have been thrilled to play such an approach shot.

  16. Marian Pahars - not so much for the quality of the goal but for the context. Saints fighting relegation but losing 3-1 at home to Blackburn, get one back from someone (Mark Hughes?) and then Marian gets his first and the draw with only a few minutes left. Another worthy of being mentioned in despatches - Jan Paul Saijs (sp?) on a miserable midweek night during The Dark Days. He scored both goals in an away draw, one of which was a real belter, but I can't recall if this was the first or the second.
  17. Towards the end of the match we were down in our right corner and appeared to be in difficulty getting out. However, some neat movement, first time passes and all round clever play saw us move swiftly away and then set up a very crisp counter attack which finished with McQueen putting in a telling cross which Stones had to head away for a corner. Fantastic football, a joy to watch and The Beautiful Game played at its best.

  19. But the NHS problems will be sorted out by the £350 million a week coming to it that the Brexiteers banged on about in the campaign. Mmmm ... or maybe not?
  20. I have generally felt a bit nervous when Tadic takes a penalty - memories of that failed attempt at Burnley causes the anxiety. So it was with some delight I saw him score one with Lambertesque confidence for Serbia against RoI in the recent World Cup qualifiers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbcZxaI-Lpo from around 3.45
  21. Is there any reason why Southampton chose to wear red and white? And why the diagonal sash was changed to stripes?
  22. Those very same pundits and commentators who are praising the idea will next be saying ... 'Fans pay a lot of money to see a match and they want to see 11 players for each team. So a footballer swore at a referee - it's ridiculous'. I give it three weekends before one of them says something similar to the above.
  23. Presumably the £350 million will be given back to the people from whom it was initially taken. The question is will this be as a tax cut or an increase in the threshold?
  24. No, I'm merely noting that we sell our best players are unable to keep hold of successful managers .... And yet improve year on year. It is a strategy that baffles others but plainly it works for us. My question was ... What is our long term plan?
  25. The statement refers to our 'long term plan'. Can anyone remind me what that is? It would appear for the last several years our long term plan has been to exist in a state of permanent short term instability.
