  1. A magnificent result after a really awful game for most of the first half. Not from Saints but a boring LVG Man U. We just kept up the pace and never relinquished an inch. Tadic was a poor choice for the team to start with and a huge difference when he was finally replaced. Clasie is really coming into his own and getting to grips with the Premier League and made Scheiderlin look very poor today. Forster being back has installed a high level of confidence in defense and switching Fonte and VVD and bring Bertrand into the back three is working a treat. Poor Long looked to have been knackered for the last half hour and shan't be surprised if he'll need time to recover. He ran out of steam and his pace fell away. Apart from Tadic every one played amazingly well. Much credit has to be given to Prowsey for the magnificent cross onto Austin head. Great to see Austin get off to such a great start. Doubt if he'll get a better cross than JWP's cross from the corner. Hoping Steven Davis and Clasie both make a quick recovery as we'll be needing them for the Arsenal game. If we manage to beat them on their own ground it'll realy convince everyone who still have one or two doubts.

    Matt Oakley

Matt plays for Saints in the 1999 3-3 draw against Derby Country who had Rory Delap at center forward. Great video and play from Saints https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICtwqcw3SDw

    Ex Saints Watch

Watching Exeter playing against Liverpool, (minus all of their scum continent). Have goosebumps watching one of my favorite former Saints players Matt Oakley. Thought he'd retired a year or so ago. Yet there's life in the old dog yet. Certainly still producing one or good moves against players playing for the mighty 'Pool. Worth mentioning to Jay Rodriguez Matt's career did eventually get back on track after suffering a similar horrendous injury. Took a long time as is Jay's recovery. Amazing to see other former Saints on display such as Aaron Davies, Lee Holmes, Danny Butterfield. Wonder how many of the current squad and Academy will still be playing at 38 years old.
  4. Idiot journo Matt Lloyd in the Mirror writes Swansea missed out on Austin who went from QPR to rivala BOURNEMOUTH
  5. An incredible signing I had hoped we'd have made when QPR got relegated. When Ronald Koeman said we weren't interested in him, it really angered me so much and increased my feelings towards Koeman that I was convinced he wasn't the manager to take Saints forward. I'm still not convinced but far more than I was prior to us signing Charlie. Sad that we've not gone for Sam Byram. I'm sure he'd have been a top long term signing for us.
  6. Rest in Eternal Peace Malc. Condolences to Jamie and all the family and his friends, who will miss him badly.
  7. Reports that Liverpool are keen on signing Shane Long. According to the Irish Daily Star: "Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp [is] keen on acquiring [shane Long] before the end of the current transfer window". In a radio interview today with Newstalk, Mark McCadden - who broke the story for the Irish Daily Star - added: "Liverpool are definitely interested, and he [Long] is high on [Liverpool’s] list". In my view, Long is a very Rodgers-esque transfer target, but according to Steven Nicol, the Irish international would be a great signing for the club: “They [Liverpool] spent £16m on Balotelli but I would prefer someone like Shane Long. He might not have the same ability, but the fans will love him, [and] he'll give you everything". Reds hero Phil Thompson doesn't share Nicol's enthusiasm for Long, and when asked last season about the possibility of a move to Anfield, he told reporters: “Shane Long has had really good spells this year but I think he’s inconsistent as a goalscorer” Thommo is right - Long's goalscoring inconsistency is there for all to see: * 15 goals in 58 games for Southampton (One every 208 minutes). The last thing Liverpool need is another allegedly attacking player who fails to score/create goals on a regular basis.
  8. A truly amazing performance by all the lads. Targett and Long were awesome and offer so much to a successful team performance. Unsung hero Davies did really well and doesn't deserve all the crap that gets sent his way. Having Forster back has given the defence new confidence and soothed down the psnic we've seen since he's been out injured. After I saw the team selection I had wondered whether Koeman had picked the team by pulling numbers out of a hat. Probably be the last time we get to see the same selection again. I'm not getting carried away until I see repetitions of how we played. Koeman will surely make chances for the weekend and before you know we'll be playing the usual crap. Great seeing Bertrand and Targett working together on the left flank. Surely Bertrand is coaching Targett first hand through out the game. I am so proud of Matt's play and rising to the occasion. The appearance of Pelle showed just bad his play is in comparison to Long's intense energy and non stop running. My fears are for Koeman reverting to having Pelle back as first choice and us reverting to how badly we've played recently. I really hope I'm wrong and we keep to the style of play and players who performed so well last night..
  9. If Klopp succeeds in turning around Steven Caulker's career and gets him playing well, this will be a big indication to all of us, on how good or bad Ronald Koeman is a manager. I doubt Klopp will succeed and this appears a very poor move by Liverpool but everything is possible now that Klopp is running their show.
  10. With the under 21's playing this evening, don't expect any changes in the selection for Wednesday night's game. With Koeman we supporters just can't win and have to accept more of the same.
  11. A true artist and legend of his generation who has fought on to the end to leave behind a final legacy of his talent. R.I.P.This is Ground Control to Major Tom. Over and Out XXX .
  12. Having thought over Koeman's statement these past few days, I finally come to the conclusion that Koeman is frustrated that many of the Academy lads are refusing to go out on loan. I believe a number prefer the comfort zone, being close to their mates and close to what's going on at the club. They're probably afraid of missing out on an opportunity to play/train with the first team, which they probably consider would slow down their development and chances. Koeman's statement and apparent arrogance and distance may be his way to forcing them to take up a loan option. Certainly under the current Academy management set up I see little chance of these lads advancing as was sometimes the case in the past. I dislike that more ex Saints players are not being brought in to the Academy setup. One ex player we really missed out on was Keven Phillips who doing a good job in coaching these days.
  13. With Jurgen KLOPP it is " Blame me, criticise me, NOT the players" With Ronald Koeman it is "Blame the players, blame the Academy, blame the Board (well, somewhat in an inferring manner) blame everyone, everything BUT don't blame me" Ever heard the expression, the meaning of DOUBLE DUTCH??? One only needs to refer to Ronald Koeman, Louis Van Gaal to understand how the expression came about. Both don't know or are incapable of making themselves understood. Hence why the results are far from what are desired by the supporters Harry Redknapp went 11 games without a win, Yet we drew every game and got 11 points. It was considered a disastrous run, Yet Mr Koeman has got 6 points from his last 11games and we're playing well according to him. Like most, I didn't watch the game, listened to Radio London commentary so can't comment on the game, the players, but I can express an opinion on the result, the tactics, selection and use of substitutions.Koeman once again didn't get it right, failed to play the likes of Seagar or Reed. How do we not know Seagar won't score if he's allowed to play for 45 minutes, That he hasn't an inborn nose for scoring.. Is 10 minutes end of match play in the past 2 seasons ample time for him to show what he can do. What other clubs have a reserve player who scores regularly and is leading goal scorer, who's only ever been given 10 minutes action when a hf dozen so called goal scorers can't even put the ball in the back of the net game after game.? If Koeman can't get wins and points in the next two games, it is well overdue the supporter base makes it known that the Board need to take action. If this is the case, by the time our next home game comes up after Arsenal and Man United, a protest or stay away needs to take place. Anything is possible but if this is the case it will be past the transfer/loan window and leaves very little alternative.
  14. Someone last year posted a Radio Solent link for FA Cup games that can be listened to online in the UK and abroad via a UK proxy or VPN. I'm hoping the same person will post a similar link for today's game
  15. I have to wholeheartedly agree with Duncan and washsaint. The Academy coaching and training has been below standard ever since Jason Dodd and Willo left. It has been seen a long time ago as with Monday against Chelsea Under 21.s, the addition of one ore two first team players has usually got them a result i.e. winning the FA Cup) However, this has only covered up the fact that the players and/or their coaches are not good enough. Koeman's statement does little to cover his own lack of development of our youngsters. I ask, what exactly is it that his brother Erwin does? Also I ask SaintCharlie, just what credentials and authority does he possess, to write off in such an authoritative and arrogant manner young players. He is little older than the players themselves and doesn't even play the game, or yet to know about their careers and future. By all means express one's opinion and thoughts but certainly not in manner of a know all and self opinionated expert. If the players are not responding, it is long time the club bring in new coaches, that Koeman makes use of these players for 15 minutes or so per game and make a huge change in policy of how the Academy is run , and how the young players are developed and retained. *** I may mention quiet a few were considered by Koeman himself good enough to be given new 3, 4, 5 year contracts in the time he's been at the club.
  16. If Sam isn't going to get to remain at St Mary's, I like the thought of him being loaned to one of the top Scottish League clubs. I'll heard Aberdeen mentioned today. It's just been mentioned that Rangers would be a good option for him. http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/01/07/rangers-should-consider-potential-loan-move-for-southamptons-you/
  17. Nice to see something is being done to vamp up the Academy and improve our options and future development. It's not only the first team that's been suffering but also the Under 21\s, Under 19's. Going out on loan provides one option but not6 when our entire future development suffers. Welcome back Sam. I m certain you won't let us down and give more than 100% to your game.
  18. Once again Dejan Lovren is out with an injury in last nights Cup game.. What amuses me is to see Liverpool players dropping like flies due to Klopp's intense training methods yet our beloved Adam Lallana is thriving. Normally Lallana would be the first to drop. Very strange indeed.

    Koeman to walk?

The Board are gutless and incapable of taking the decision to fire Koeman and Co. Such a decision would need a man of Cortese's grandeur and we no longer have anyone of that level. We are therefore in a very perilous situation. We will dither and tango till all the decent replacements are no longer available . Wanyama should be shipped out at once. If United are prepared to pay over the odds then MANE should go as well. One thing Rupert Lowe was right about and that is you don't keep hold of a player who wants to leave. We need to act now and give ourselves the time to get back on track and stabilise a sinking ship. Can't envision anyone capable of taking such a decision and therefore a worse situation is about to unfold.

    Koeman to walk?

No, he isn't going to walk anymore than LVG was prepared to at Man U. We need to get rid of him, his brother, and the Unfitness Manager and bring in Garry Monk to work together with Sammy Lee. Monk and Lee would get things back on track and soon sort out the stragglers and bring in really class players.
  21. F*cking Koeman just has to go. We've had 30 minutes to make a change but now he's completely lost it for us AGAIN
  22. Heard several reports today that Big Sam and Sunderland are after him. That would be a tragedy should we miss out on him. But for penny pinching Les we'd have signed him two seasons ago.
  23. Thisw is really tremerndous news for all footbll fans. 24. Some may mock at what you've posted but I am one who could see them winning(check match thread). Constantly Koeman fails to see what most supporters see of how his team are losing the plot, and what action needs to be taken. I remember Strachan often went to the stand to get a different view of how his players were performing. Perhaps Koeman needs to give it a try. Somewhere he is just not succeeding to read the game fast enough and change tactics in order to save a game.
  25. Had we played tonight's selection one week after our last game I doubt we'd have failed to win the game. The players were knackered and none more than Martina who can't be written off on tonight's showing. The guy gave his all against Arsenal despite not playing for months and I can accept her wasn't on the same level tonight. Bringing on Maya completely threw the formation off balance. Ramirez couldn't have put in a worse performance. He was absolutely atrocious and must have used the occasion to two finger us all. I've been hoping he'd been given a chance for a while but he really let us down. Funnily he looked more bulky when he came on and must have been body building. No matter, it counted for absolutely nothing. This was a game where the likes of Reed would have turned in a top performance, have had the energy so greatly missing in the second half. JWP and Clasie must have been in a fair old state when Koeman didn't use them. Today's match less than 48 hours after Arsenal was an exception and doesn't come about often. Still, better substitutions in response to West Hams half time changes, may have won us the 3 points. A sad ending to 2015.
