Mauricio Pochettino: The Argentine at Southampton with big plans
St Marco replied to thornhill_saints's topic in The Saints
Nice read, can't help dreaming of the things to come here. -
Not sure I ever predicted they were toast but wouldn't it depend on how you define toast? If you look at it from an un-biased perspective they will be starting in the 4th division with debt and payments that must be kept to. That means a chunk of their income has already been swallowed up. Add to that league two has strict rules which states you can only have 55% of your turnover on wages, means they can't go into further debt buying players on stupid wages to help them out of the league at the first time of asking. Add to this today there seems to be a fair few people asking what they have actually got with their stake and who makes the decisions. The infighting is just around the corner when they realise League Two isn't going to be as easy as they thought. They are going to be screwed for a long time. Look at Bradford. However I do think that maybe it is now time to close the thread as they are out of admin and have been taken over. Maybe re-open it when things start to go tits up which they will.

Pompey....got to be the only club to celebrate getting relegated to the bottom division...
-
They really do try and make even the smallest thing seem huge don't they.....They might win a under 17 youth league, wow. Does that really need to be in their news? Maybe someone needs to point out how our kids are doing in the ELITE group http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/matchday/barclays-u18-premier-league-tables.html?paramYouthStage=ELITE But yet you don't see us spouting off about it in the press etc What's next a lad from Pompey won the egg and spoon race at under 10s sports day?

Guess it is time Pompey read up on the league two finances rules "The SCMP (Salary Cost Management Protocol) broadly limits spending on total player wages to a proportion of each club's turnover, with clubs providing budgetary information to The League at the beginning of the season that is updated as the campaign progresses. Any club that is deemed to have breached the permitted spending threshold will be subject to a transfer embargo. Wherever possible, The League will seek to tackle the issue 'at source' by refusing player registrations that take clubs beyond the threshold. At the beginning of the current season, League 2 clubs reduced the permitted spending threshold to 55% from 60% and this figure will continue to be operated next season" Plenty more fun to be had next season

You got to laugh. 4 divisions away from us but will be trying to give it the large. Woodford United are closer to them in leagues then they are to us.... Small club, **** fans, cheating bastards, only one team in Hampshire!

Guardian think it is around £10m http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2013/apr/10/how-much-margaret-thatcher-funeral-cost A bit too much I agree. Especially when they are cutting disabled people's help today.

Exactly. The problem is that the England team is a "clique" of players and staff. Rooney could have two broken legs and not play for his club for 6 months but would still get picked over whoever the current top form English striker is. People have lost interest in International football, not just here but worldwide. As someone said the other day on the radio playing for your country has been made too difficult in comparison to how it used to be. Look at Lambert. Top English striker in a relegation battling team. How would he do in a team like Man Utd or Arsenal where the players are better and he would get more chances? You could argue he would do even better. But he won't get that chance because Roy or whoever is in charge has to abide to "Brand England". People won't pay the ticket prices if the likes of Rooney, Gerrard etc are left out. It is all about money. And because of that people have lost interest. It is below club football in competitiveness. I think most people now see the international break as a nuisance.

The lights go out and when they come back on the judge is sitting with a Saints shirt on. If Carlsberg did Pompey court cases....
-
Wonder what the deal is they have agreed. Would be classic if Chinny wanted a place on the board or to own a % of the club (as their plan is to own 51% correct?).
-
And this wreck of a train has still yet to come to a halt. Plenty more fun coming. Looking forward to when they start arguing about who to sign next season. But mostly looking forward to seeing pack the park change to pack the stand in league two

Would this be the same Sun newspaper that had a partnership with her? Also are you saying because of where we were born we should turn a blind eye to things that happen elsewhere? Because we have food to eat we shouldn't care about those who starve? We are the same country. We are all British. Having a regional ideology or as she said "the city will keep us" is wrong.

But you have to try and see it from their side of the fence. People from the north suffered terribly. In some places it is still bad today. She destroyed manufacturing which was largely a northern thing. Imagine you and your family were workers there for generations and all of a sudden you have lost your job. Add to that due to those decisions businesses shut or move creating further unemployment. You apply for jobs with hundreds of other people but there are no jobs. Then when you protest about it you are attacked by riot police. Wondering how you will feed your family etc. These people of which there were millions will not have the same view on her as others. If their life or that of their family members was made difficult by her decisions then I can understand why they would be happy she has died.
-
While I think nobody wishes anyone to die it has to be said thousands of people die every day. You can't have a public tribute for all of them. To some they will think she did well, others who suffered will disagree. Why does she deserve everybody to reflect on her death when she didn't with those who died at Hillsborough? She was many things but she was not a fan of the football culture nor the football fans. It would be the wrong place to try and remember her. A commons minute of silence by MPs is the right place. Trying to force people to hold a minutes silence no matter their views on that person is wrong.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and mine is she was a poor prime minister who doesn't deserve some of the praise she has received. And does not deserve a state funeral at all. If that goes ahead I can see there being trouble. I have respect for her due to her drive and wanting to succeed. But her lust for conflict and reaction to when people defend themselves makes her quite evil in my book. Many of her policies created vast unemployment and increased severe poverty. When people protested about it she sent in the riot police to disperse them. That stubbornness to listen to anyone else's view is what defined her in my eyes. Someone who would watch the house burn rather then put the fire out by admitting they were wrong. If the Argies had not gone into the Falklands I think she would not be getting the praise she is now. The right want to portray her as a kind of Churchill who saved the country. Which is a load of ********. As I say everyone is entitled to an opinion.

"Southampton had a good win against Liverpool but it just papers over the cracks. Since changing manager they have only won twice and that was against two teams well below par. This will be a reality check for them and remind them they are fighting for their lives to stay in the league. Chelsea have too much quality and should win comfortably. Lawro prediction: 1-3" My prediction 1-0

Just listening to him on the fantasy football thing with Puncheon. Think this guy has to now be the guy I hate most in the football world. Simply cannot say anything nice about the club and Punch looked embarrassed with some of the things he said i.e Shaw. When Punch said Shaw was one of his fav players Merson did like a coffee over keyboard moment noise and said Shaw would not be at Saints next year, no chance. Punch kept it civil and just said he was a great player who is 17 but built like a man and the fastest player he has seen. Then when picking his team when he mentioned Lallana again he shat on him and then again with Lambert. I Understand there is a bit of banter what with being a skate but as a pundit he should be praising players like Lambo for what he has done. Add to that my bro watched soccer Saturday last week and said Mers was using any chance he got to knock the club. Even when the game was on he was making it out like we were not that good and Liverpool's chances were better then they were. Complete dickhead.

Bart said when he signed his new contract with us a year or two ago "It was an easy decision because I'm very happy here. I love the club and the city and have many friends, Polish and English". Doesn't sound like someone repressed no? As I said it could be the case someone did say something, but based on personal experience I have not heard much racism at St Marys. I have heard players getting stick for not trying, playing crap or for things they have said in the past or in the media. But even when someone plays crap the club can get behind them. Remember when Bart had a shocker in the cup and everyone got behind him and tried to give him confidence. The same goes for Gazza. I wonder if he just reacted to getting a bit of stick like I said.
-
They were not our main keepers. They were backups. Wright played what 5-6 times when Kelvin was injured and Miller joined when Bart got injured if I remember right. Did he even play?
-
It is a bit of a strange claim considering the amount of foreign keepers we have had in say the past 10 years or so. Paulo Gazzaniga = Argentina Boruc - Poland Bart - Poland Niemi - Finish Jones - Welsh Grobbelaar - Zimbabwe etc Think Davis must have been the only English main keeper we have had since Beasent in what 93? That isn't me saying I don't believe him it is more of a case of wondering why he got the stick and others (including another Polish keeper) have never mentioned getting any? If anything I think maybe the fans got on his back for playing badly and he just reacted. But that is just my opinion. I wouldn't say Saints fans were racist as a whole but your always get a few. If they did do it then I hope they are found and punished as it has no place anywhere.
