Whereas last year we got dumped out of the Cup in the 3rd round and used the free weekend after that for a nice jolly to Barcelona. Can't do well in all competitions when you have an effective squad the size of ours. Look at Hull on Saturday, literally got taken apart by Newcastle, no energy, no envy, probably because of the effort needed to travel to Brighton and back for the cup game on the previous monday.
-
don't really know, seems to be trying to get goals but nothing comes off, perhaps that's because of faulty execution though. The extra time shot on Saturday would have been a super goal because Mignolet was going the wrong way but it just happened to hit Agger (I think) and bounce away. Same thing with the volley in the first half, bit too high but when you watch a lot of football it's the same thing that you see in every game. We had 13 shots I think, scored no goals, only 3 of them blocked, which probably means that Liverpool were effective in closing us down, sort of thing we were doing when we were winning matches. I think we might get more goals from midfield if our "wide men" could get to the bye-line a bit more though and pull the ball back more accurately. Some of our crossing is a bit woeful.. Anyway the poll is now closed.

As you're an expert on our style care to cast your eye over Ramos from Hertha Berlin and let me know what you think ?

Should MP drop Lambert for the Palace game!

Let's see how he gets on (if at all) in the England game this week, got a feeling he's been sort of holding back, probably wants to go to Brazil desperately. -
Well with Gerrard,Terry, Ferdinand and Beckham being no strangers to the odd red card it can't be all that long ago, probably Gerrard about 18 months ago.

Gas imports are measured in millions of cubic metres, oil imports are measured in barrils. I'd be surprised if UK gas imports from Russia are anywhere near as high as is being stated on this thread. Could be wrong though. I thought Norway and Qatar were the main suppliers of natural gas to the Uk which has some stocks of it's own still.

Where were Chelsea in the table when they beat us at home then ? Think they took 3 points for that. In fact against the teams currently above us that we've actually played at home this season we've taken 2 points from 5 games so far, lost to Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool, draws with Arsenal and City. Perhaps we'll fare better against the 3 sides above us that we haven't played at home yet.

Who needs poor people anyway, filthy russian lucre to pay 50 million for Torres (inc about 8 million VAT) now you're talking. Just can't think how much Abrahamovic money the treasury must have siphoned off over the years. Probably enough to buy the Crimea.

Well there was an incident at Swansea recently wasn't there ? Sunderland have had a few of late as well, As for the signing I don't know really wasn't there a Portuguese lad who was supposed to sign for us, might have even turned up at SMS but the deal didn't get done for some reason or other. One in...one out, Mauricio's words not mine. Turned into 2 out..none in.

Well we could stop them coming here and funding football clubs, that would do no end of wonders for our economy wouldn't it. In fact that's the solution, we should nationalise Chelsea, don't know if the UK economy would stand up to pouring millions into them though.

Weren't they the ones pretending to be gay though ? always gives you an advantage with the judges, they do seem to like a bit of gay cowboy. Want to win an Oscar ? Make a film about gay cowboys, never fails.

Gonna be choppy ride then. Wind and wuthering in the Atlantic just now.

Don't think MP has lost "the passion". He wants to win and be successful and I think he may be bitterly disappointed about the support he's received from the new set-up, no-one is going to tell me he didn't want a replacement for Osvaldo and the recruitment set-up failed him on that. Also I think he may be a bit peeved about the fans turning on him over the cup. He said we put out the best side available and yet there were those questioning him over that. We are now seeing the results of not signing a new striker at the end of January, we have a dying swan and a snotty nosed kid with no experience to face up to some of the best teams in the world with. I'd be p*ssed off about that, in fact I am actually. I'd have kept Osvaldo until a replacement signed on the dotted line, all we seemed intereted in doing was shoving him out of the door asap. Other clubs handle training ground disputes but then you need a real CEO for that.

Exactly this is a dispute between 'Russian' ethnies over warm water military bases, let the buggers sort themselves out because I certainly wouldn't want some of those Ukranian pseudo polticians in charge of anything dangerous.
-
Staying out of it seems to be the right thing to do really. We only really know what the Ukranian "rebels" want us to know. Wasn't the scenario of Crimson Tide based on a similar situation ?
-
You are probably quite right about the second goal killing us off, it was such a bad goal to concede, especially after the scruffy first one. When you keep on shipping goals like that you have no hope really.
-
We weren't already in Iraq, don't the Russians have about 25000 troops in Crimea anyway ? Sounds about right really, mind you that really worked with India and Pakistan didn't it.
-
Yes let's just say it's for access to the middle east without going the long way round, like the Falklands are important because they like being British and we need the extra sheep.
-
Well without being an expert on the Crimea I think it's more a case of the Russians protecting their no doubt sensitive bases than mere d**k waving. There are places you just can't let fall into the hands of just anyone.

Do we need a new centre back or could Chambers play there?

It would certainly be weird seeing a 10 stone CB in the PL. Same sort of effect as an 11 stone lock forward I expect...minimal to non-existent. Can't see why we won't play him in MF. We insisted on playing Bale at LB, then smart guys moved him forward a notch. -
Anyway perhaps we didn't have 7 million to spend in January. Don't know if we might not be a bit short of the old folding just now, we've spent a lot and received relatively little these last couple of seasons. Given that our PL earnings from last season were about 44 million £ and we spent most of that on last summers transfers there might not be much margin for more spending.

because it's impossible as things stand, the FFF probably read all that Morgan for England stuff in the popular press, don't know about the HNA and crossed him off of the list that already had a black mark against his name anyway. Progression in French football is linear, Youth teams, club team, big club. They are notorious for interfering in player's career paths, if your club is not in Europe then they find a way to suggest you move to one that is, loyalty to clubs is unknown in French football's highest echelons. If you're a good player you should be playing for a top club is their approach, woe betide anyone who rejects their formula.
-
Depends on how much our players play in their respective midweek internationals, if we get a couple of knocks we could be scrubbing around for a side again.
-
Absolutely ridiculous, Guilavogui is dire, that's why he couldn't get a game in Spain and had to come crawling back to StE on loan. There must be some problem between Morgan and the FFF, think we have to take that as a fact now but DD could have easily called up Flamini or Gonalons, he just seems to be obsessed with afro-french giant statues.

Phil Jones is injured just now, that's why he's not in the squad this time, when he isn't he will be an automatic choice because of his versatility, he's a big miss for both Utd and England just now.
