  1. This is also the prime reason why we are doing so well this season (and the 2nd half of last) - Morgan plays a very similar role and this has let Lallana play in a much freer role, especially since Wanyama arrived.
  2. There have been a few threads about Charlie Miller eg http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?16745-Charlie-Miller-mural&highlight=charles+miller but I came across this article on the bbc website hidden away in the football section today. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24537173 to very briefly summarise - Charlie Miller is generally accepting as being one of the first founding fathers of football in Brazil, but this article outlines the claims of some dodgy suburb of Rio that some scottish scallywag got there first. I found it a short but interesting article, with a good background to Miller, and concluded that the venerable son of Southampton still has the best claims to introducing organised football over there.
  3. Was just thinking that myself - I must take my compass with me next time!
  4. any links to the Ward-Prowse goal last night?
  5. any links to the Ward-Prowse wonder goal?
  6. Shows that most people judge him solely on his playing abilities. He is probably one of the smartest and intelligent ex-pros around and and is also a great coach, especially with younger age groups. Out of all of those so called commissionaires, him and Dario Gradi will probably have a far better understanding of the current problems in the English game, and the way to go forward. imho of course.
  7. A lot of people on here don't seem to like him? I also don't like him as a person, but I thought he was a very good manager at Brighton and given the right club and tools he could go a long way. Unfortunately for him I don't think sunderland are that club.
  8. Stanley are at Wimbledon next weekend methinks
  9. For those interested this weeks pod-cast, apart from slagging off man-ure most of the time spend a couple of minutes really applauding saints performance at lpool at the weekend and especially the way we have improved under Pochettino http://www.theguardian.com/football/audio/2013/sep/23/1
  10. Such as when we were a little League 1 side and dumped mighty Premier League Blackpool out of the cup. Holloway wasn't too impressed with chants coming out of St Mary's that day (to be fair he did make nine or so changes)
  11. Am I the only one that found this a mildly amusing http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/cod-display-baffles-pompey-keeper-1-5516783
  12. Me too And with Clyne and Shaw being so quick and good on and off the ball, that allows an enormous amount of fluidity at the back and in midfield. Combined with Morgan's ability to play deep if needed it should give us the ability to dominate midfield and allow clyne and shaw to break up the wings when they can.
  13. Interesting stat in The Times footy pull out this morning: The only thing that surprised me about this stat is that AFC Wimbledon seem to have done pretty well starting from nothing
  14. I don't think RL has anything to lose tonight, even if it goes t*ts up for England. It's been made pretty clear by Hodgson that RL was/is not first choice striker and is only playing due to injuries to Rooney et al. and the lack of match fitness of Defoe. But Hodgson also said that RL has a fantastic attitude and is clearly liked by the rest of the England squad and it could be those factors that might keep him in the squad for the rest of the qualifiers and hopefully the WC next year.
  15. Anyone on here who remembers the City in the early 60's will recall that there were still loads of bombsites around. The main city centre had been largely rebuilt but venture further down towards the docks and it took a long time for for those to get sorted out.
  16. Did it a few years ago with our kids and had a fantastic time - and as WC says - snow is almost gauranteed.
  17. as highlighted by Watford last season with their multiple loans from the Italian side with the same owners. It p*ssed a lot of championship clubs off so just as well they didn't get promoted
  18. I was going to say the same - he was a great midfield player for us when we got into the 1st Div for the first time. He was in his twilight years but he still had the brain of a (almost) genius and was one of the key reasons we stayed up in the first couple of years.
  19. Ha ha! I was trying to remember his name - and what had happened to him. We came pretty close to signing him didn't we?
  20. saves on the tax and NI as well
  21. Ha ha make me laugh!! My gorgeous wife and I were saying last night that Sky should have subtitles when Carragher is talking - I caught about every third or fourth word (if lucky). It reminded me of Rab C Nesbit (apart from him being a scotty), which luckily did have the option of subtitles!!
  22. Bit of a bargain at a tenner - even £12.50 on the night is great value
  23. one of the articles in said that it was the first time in Premier League history that a team had started with 3 players aged 18 or under. Our academy has been getting some excellent exposure and reviews/reports over the past year and it looks like it will continue to do so
  24. maybe, but but they looked absolutely s**t as a team last night. I know it's only one game but I suspect they could be struggling all season. At least with our very poor start last season we played really well (most of the time) and at least looked like a half decent team
