  1. And the M6 is a nightmare on a Sunday evening!
  2. Just like Buttner a couple of years ago - declined to come here because manure were in the picture - where is he now? Had he come here Shaw would probably not have got his chance so early
  3. The one that caught my eye is the expansion of the Liberty Stadium - currently around 21000 upto 33000 for £19million, which seems a bit of a snip. However if they continue to sell their players as fast as we are they won't need a bigger stadium
  4. Blimey, that's far too cheap for us - is he any good
  5. Posted on twitter..... Not sure his maths are quite right but sounds good
  6. also in the guardian transfer rumours....
  7. Sounds like an Old Master to me - strong brush strokes in defence and artistic going forward
  8. We went to argie on holiday last year and had a great time. Obviously we thought we might not be too welcome but everyone was sooo friendly. We did the whole of the country (practically) and went down to Ushuaia on Tierra del Fuego - what a stunning place - about as far south as you can go on continental mainland before you get to the antarctic. It's not everyone's idea of a holiday destination but we loved it! However, the gist of this post is that I'm in the oil industry and flying into Ushuaia you land at the Malvinas International Airport! Ushuaia is a busy port and already supports some offshore oil activity in argieland, but it was apparent that the local industry had been lobbying Buenos Aires very hard to allow them to become the main supply base for the drilling campaign off the Falklands - but to no avail. Drilling support is a massive business and although the activity off the Falklands is sporadic, it would be a massive boost to the local (and national) economy. By coincidence, one of my current colleagues used to be a big wig for BG (the old British Gas, not the new one) in buenos aires, and when he first went out there about 20 years ago, BG applied for some of the Falklands Islands exploration blocks in a 50/50 partnership with YPF, the then national oil company of argieland, with the full backing of the argie government. In the end they weren't awarded any blocks (luckily says my colleague) - but shows how hypocritical everyone can be. One of the best things we bought down there was a postcard from The Falkland Islands, printed in argieland - especially for american tourists who had no idea who/where/what the malvinas are/were.
  9. Seems to be fleet streets favourite at the moment. Wonder if he shouldn't be on the bench as if the italian coaches watched him against Honduras they'll realise that although he is quick and very skilfull, a few cynical late tackles will wind him up. Having said that, Sterling and Barclay have got massive potential.. Barclay looks very comfortable on the ball and I reckon that him and Lallana could really link up well.
  10. Thanks for resurrecting this thread - brings the memories of life in League 1 and the Championship flooding back - most of them good by the way
  11. Just out of interest, and not being a betting man, is much money actually bet on this?
  12. This is more bad news. The likes of Lpool will now be thinking - "maybe we ought to buy J W-P as well. And while we are at it, Clyne can replace Johnson, oh, and that Schneiderlin fellow looks a good replacement for Gerrard"
  13. Ha ha - really made me laugh (for a change)
  14. Oooo - just noticed it's taken me nearly six years to get to 500 posts - not bad considering I spend a large part of my day checking this site for news, updates etc Now, must go and renew my two season tickets before tonight......
  15. If he goes he'll be back-up and might get games in the early euro rounds, He has been a great servant for us, but I realistically think he has only a season or so left playing regularly. He was beginning to show his age towards the end of last season. Having said all that we love him to bits and having been part of Saints revival from the 3rd tier I would be sad to see him go
  16. Thanks for the link - should be something there for everyone!
  17. Could someone who is bored or got nothing better to do please post the current top 10/20/xx contenders in the managers race, preferably in order of excitement. I've got a bit behind on this thread and need a quick catch up Ta!!
  18. There seems to be a common thread with all the players that have been interviewed/quoted over the past day or so...........
  19. probably why I forgot about him!!
  20. Good list - we ought to have a poll. I'd forgotten about villas-boas - could be just right for us
  21. Talking of the Yemen (where I have spent may happy hours!!) - try Aden. The "terminal" building still has a hole in the roof from mortars from the last civil war and the "runway" still has a couple of bomb craters cunningly concealed along the margins.
  22. Same here - there were 20 candidates on our list including some I was unaware of: English Democrats - I'm English, NOT British, NOT EUropean! (note the double capitals for EU - as on the voting sheet) Liberty Great Britain - Faithful to tradition, revolutionary in outlook. The Roman Party.AVE - no idea what this one is all about.
  23. Was thinking the same thing myself - had a few emails from my worried daughter this morning which included
