  2. I’ve been a supporter since the old third division south days but it has seemed to me for some time that money is killing the game I grew up with and loved. I suppose that’s inevitable given the mass communication age we live in today but I find myself increasingly unwilling to get too emotionally involved when both the players and management clearly have loyalty only to themselves.
  3. Lee Todd.
  4. Lambert & Shaw.
  5. Me too - especially the magnets and lasers bit!
  6. That's the one!
  7. Anyone remember the LB Dave Jones brought with him from Stockport? Only played a few games and that was too many.
  8. Embarrassing.
  9. No point in signing Boruc unless he's given a decent run.
  10. Which is why NA has to go and AL replaced as captain. Personally I think the Jordan/Redknapp combination would work but that's a pragmatic view that's not to everyone's taste.
  11. A cunning plan indeed.
  12. I'd go further and say that NA seems a poor judge of a player's ability and shows little idea of how to build a progressive team capable of surviving in the Premiership. What success he has had has been built on the foundations provided by Pardew. Sadly it can only end in tears.
  13. Sadly, I think this may be close to the truth. Cortese will have set a target and failure will not be an option.
  14. Football is a results based business and Cortese has a very ambitious plan to execute. I think we all know how this is going to end.
  15. " ... we do have a strategy that is focussed on younger talent that we can take with us to the next level" Or, in the worst case, can sell on at break-even.
  16. John Sydenham?
  17. That moment was one of the highlights of the seaon for me.
  18. That's so true. I can still see Terry Paine heading that goal at Brisbane Road nearly 50 years ago.
  19. Was friendly enough where I was sitting but the local school kids did get a bit excited when we went 2-1 up. Quite a few scouts there also as you might expect. The MU guy was sat behind me. Thought Bolton had the better of the first half when we kept giving away possession. The final result was well deserved though for a much better 2nd half when Bolton seemed to run out of steam.
  20. I was behind the goal at the Milton end on that occasion too. We went behind 0-1 very early on but were up 6-1 at half time I think! Every attack seemed to end in a goal and I remember thinking that McClaren had switched off and didn't seem to care too much. Why we signed him up several months later is truly baffling.
  21. I think Penk was used as cover for when Sydenham was on National Service.
  22. My recollection is that the Norman Deely ruck involved Terry Paine and not George. Terry had been indulging in his ankle tapping routine and Deely totally lost it, sitting on Terry's chest and raining in blows like there was no tomorrow. In those days that sort of behaviour only warranted a booking and both stayed on the field. These days it would be an automatic 3 month ban!
