  1. Not too much to add really. Two poor goals to give away and no real threat, despite expending a lot of energy, until Lallana came on. Whatever Davis was thinking for the first goal is beyond me and he was probably still trying to work it out himself when the second went in.
  2. Look more closely and there's me walking up the left hand pavement on the road behind the Milton end. I'd left early for the very first time in any match and still had another few yards to walk before the most almighty roar would erupt and shake the whole street.
  3. Some of us can add the 9-3 thrashing of wolves in the 60's to the list as well.
  4. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/9267960.stm It is believed Pardew became close friends with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and director Derek Llambias when all three were familiar faces at an exclusive London casino where Llambias was managing director. I'll give it 18 months,
  5. The question for NC must be "Is there a better alternative to Pardew in guaranteeing automatic promotion next season?". If he changes manager now he will need to have a very good candidate lined up as any failure next season would then be his responsibility. If he doesn't change manager (the most likely outcome IMO) then all the pressure once again is on Pardew and this time he can be in no doubt as to the priorities and the outcome of any failure to deliver. My guess - Pardew starts next season but is gone by Christmas due to a series of "unacceptable results" against lower half teams.

  7. It comes down to whether you think Pardew is a winner, i.e. can he consistently motivate, organise and get the best out of the squad. The evidence so far is that he's not.
  8. Yes, I noticed that too. Totally bizarre given that the "taunts" barely reached playground level at best. Almost as funny was the Tranmere supporter that picked up the ball for a throw in and then threw it away again when a Saint's player came to collect it. Didn't do him much good though as he was subsequently frogmarched out of the ground at the double! Sometimes crowd watching can be more entertaining than the game itself.
  9. Win tonight and on Saturday and I'll agree with you!
  10. I'd prefer AP to take us all the way too but he has to demonstrate he can deliver the results. Win tonight and Saturday and this will all be forgotten.
  11. Come on! The downbeat tone of delivery says it all. NC had probably told him he expects that result every match now until the end of season. At the very least AP has to be in contention for a playoff place if he is to feel reasonably secure - and rightly so IMO.
  12. He'd do a better job than Clive Woodward.
  13. What irony if Saturday proves to be the last match ever played by PFC.
  14. AP was hired to implement the business plan and IMO has to deliver at least an improving trend in league results to retain NC's confidence.
  15. Cortese has a 3/5 year plan to implement and, if he thinks AP cannot deliver, changes will be made. The status quo is not an option and AP must know that an improving set of results from the remaining matches is essential to retain confidence.

  17. No question about it to my mind.
  18. Not forgetting Ted McDougall ...
  19. Good players make a good team.
  20. It was the sort of far post header that Ron Davies used to score with all the time. In fact, from a distance Hammond looked not unlike him in the way he rose to the ball.
  21. He is too good to leave on the bench but it's also too much of a risk to ask him to play 90 minutes at the moment. The super-sub role seems the ideal compromise.
  22. It's a good squad but James is not the answer at right back.
  23. No one else today could have made his goal look as easy as he did today. Great awareness, great speed and a great clinical finish. Top class and I don't say such things lightly.
  24. The best team performance I've seen from Saints for some time and marred only by a bout of sloppy play stemming from overconfidence in the second half. Connolly's goal was pure class, worth going just for that.
