The difference between Southampton and Brighton...
DrunkenSaint replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
Another 2 points dropped, it annoys me sooo much with the team we have we should beating teams like this week in week out but we cant so there is defo something wrong somewhere. Yes we went on a good winning streak scoring a sh!t load of goals but at the end of the season that counts to nothing if we dont go up. I wouldnt count on winning the promotion playoffs either, it only takes one silly tackle to lose the game. A win tonight with Bournemouth and Huddersfield drawing would of of been a real bonus and with us having games in hand isnt a good sign, we'll have to play alot of games very close together. For me Hammond needed to be dropped i still think Chappers and Morgan is our best CM partnership i also think we should play Barnard instead of Guly for away games, Guly does seem play alot better when we're at home. Going back to what the OP is saying, Brighton do have a good side who can play together whatever way they are being told by the manager, they might change tactics depending who they are playing while NA always wants to play this passing style which in my view looks nice but does not always work, id rather see us win by playing a scappy game than seeing us drew or lose but playing really nice football. The passing type of game works well at most premier grounds because they are all nice playing surfaces for that type of game the lower leagues (apart from a few selected grounds ie old prem clubs) have crappy surfaces and smaller pitches so NA needs to start changing tactics depending who we play. -
cms looks very good indeed

from the sun : SOUTHAMPTON are ready to fight off Manchester United and Liverpool to keep £10million-rated teen sensation Alex Chamberlain, 17. Saints chairman Nicola Cortese said: "Alex isn't going anywhere. He's a great prospect for the future but not the transfer market. "I don't think he would wish to be anywhere else." NC knows he needs to keep his players if he wants to see his dream come true i dont think he will sell, not while we are in a good situation anyways.
-
id play chambo upfront for his pace if punch becomes a regular in the team again of course now we have a good option to rest strikers if we had to play 2 games in quick succession as they all seem to be playing well. I dont think we should sell Chambo not for any money, we need to stay strong and keep our good players together for as long as possible so they can gel and become very hard to beat. Tbh if its right we have a shed full of money we dont need to sell.
-
hope so this is where he has scored all of his goals for millwall from and thats where he should be playing, resting oxo isnt a bad thing but id like to see him come on upfront to give that much needed pace upfront.

Saints 0 Brentford 2 - Post Match Depression
DrunkenSaint replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
I recently went to an Aldershot game when they played Brentford in the cup as my friend is a die hard Shots supporter and it was for his birthday, Brentford were terrible (so were Aldershot to be fair). The shots only scored one goal but could have been more as thier defence was very poor. I really cant believe we lost to these. -
I think ppl should stop saying he's not scored enough, he's a defensive midfielder which he is captain of the under 21's french team. NA was the one who told him to shoot more hense the reason for him in shooting alot more now but thats not his game, AP let him play his type of game last season and he was great for us. why do ppl say they would rather have chappers instead of morgan? has anyone considered Hammond being our weaklink? Chappers in the middle tackling and getting forward with morgan behind him doing the creative stuff would be our best bet. But i would change formation and use the 4-5-1 since RL is useless atm then we can have hammond/morgan and chappers all in the middle.
-
infact morgan and chaplow are better than hammond but managers never drop the captain, just because it was hammond and chappers on sat and we won does not make it our best central midfield partnership, everyone has been saying Hammond has not been that good this season. Brighton and Peterbough are different teams if we had the same team we had on saturday it does not mean that we would have won tonight.
-
cause last year we played 451 away from home and that suited us, this 442 aint working, lambo and barny upfront never seem to gel
-
just said to a friend we wont score today just before they scored so now theres my 0-0 down the drain!
-
I keep saying that the 4-5-1 formation is our true formation, we played so well last season with it beating teams like Huddersfield away from home unlike this season we play a 442 formation and lose. Move Lallana off the wing and make him play off the lone striker in somekind of free roaming role, that will work wonders imo. id love for us to try a 3-5-2 formation though, we got the CB's Harding and Richardson as wingbacks? morgan, chappers and lallana then gully+lambo very attacking football!!
-
nope, we are simply not good enough and too many ppl have high expectations. We'll need to buy well in January and i hope NA will change the formation very soon we are not aggressive enough using the 442 imo.
-
very very poor that we have not seen a sub or change in formation when your 2-0 down a HT and halfway through the 2nd half, might as well give them the win......FFS
-
Harsh on Morgan but he might be tired from travelling so im sure NA has spoken to him and will get a run out but Barnard deserves to be dropped for what he did. Gully was great for us last weekend and if he was to be dropped cause its "Barnard" im sure he'll be wondering what he needs to do to get a regular place. Id keep the same lineup if we dont get a break through by 60 mins, Morgan to come on for Chaplow and maybe give Richardson a run out.
-
Now i hope Guly remains in the starting lineup from now, what a match he's having just the kind of player we've been missing all along.
-
That why we should be playing him all the time just behind the striker, he'll be a great signing imo.
-
Lambert only available striker for Saturday...
DrunkenSaint replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
i hope this will be the team imo, i really like the 451 formation cause when your attacking its more like 433 if u have the right attackign midfield players and we do with Gully and Lallana. -
would of liked to see Gully get a chance instead of Oxo since he had a cracking game midweek
-
Chaplow - signed a 2 and a half year deal - OFFICIAL
DrunkenSaint replied to SuperSAINT's topic in The Saints
I would like is to play something different other than the 442 formation so we can fit Gully and Lallana in thier true position just behind the striker but i think NA will always be a 442 guy sadly. Morgan has been our best midfield player so far this season so that is a rubbish statement to make, yes we want him to shoot more but he's never and i dont think he'll ever be a goalscorer he prefers to look for that killer pass. -
NA is suppose to be a attacking minded manager, 5 shots altogether 2 of which were freekicks does not seem attacking to me. I really think we need to work on another formation or get on loan players in quickly. Chamberlain, Puncheon and Hammond ave been poor. If the widemen are not producing the goods, we wont score!
-
Our midfield is rubbish, we need a good right midfield player and a strong CM. Seems every week we get overrun in that area.
-
hmm thinking of this formation, something different -----------------bart------------------- Butterfield --Fonte--Seabourne---Harding -----Hammond ---Morgan-----Dickson/Holmes -----------------Gully------------------ -----------Lambert----Barnard----------
-
Why do mamagers play ppl out of position? he's a f'ing ACM player!
-
They way i see it, some players really liked AP and only came here because of him being a "top manager" but now he's left, players heads have dropped and if rumors are true that some players want to leave only another "top manager" will change thier minds from leaving. Adkins might have some success at Scunny but he isnt a really known guy so players might think this is a step backwards. Its also taken 4 years to get his team where they are, if he does become out new manager than Good luck to him and i'll get behind him but if NC wants promotion this season i just dont think it will happen.
-
Really? ive only ever seen Connolly come on and score when we have the game in the bag, last season we started with 451 then went to 442 with Connolly coming on. Same when we got Barnard, we tried 442 it didnt work so went back to 451 and late on he'll come on using the 442 formation. Guess what? we have been using the 442 formation all this season and its done us nothing, a win against a poor Bristol rovers side but loses against teams we would of thrashed last season.
