Mmm, he seemed to me to be very similar to the likes of Dyer for example - i.e. players that we have home-grown. And yet I have to say that the few brief glimpses I have seen of him play perhaps show he has that little bit extra - I would imagine that we will extend his loan if Reading allow that.
-
Sometimes it happens that way - despite having the potential, the effort is not rewarded with the expected results (goals in Sagas case). He has been unfortunate with the organisational changes and in particular the Dutch experiment. He now needs to move on if he is serious about sorting out his career. I can see a move back to the Polish lower leagues if he doesn't sort himself out - I feel sure he will be released by AP as soon as possible.

I often think the manner in which a point is expressed is important, especially if the topic is contraversial in some way. The use of a question mark to indicate I am asking of others opinions is a method you would think would do the trick, but often even that fails and all you get is personal abuse - I can only assume because either some posters do not take the time to properly read a post or they are genuinely illiterate. I have noticed that Alpine employs the question mark, but still gets it in the neck and IMO that's wrong. If you think someone is wrong, fine say that, but there is no need to throw an insult. Having said all that, what I find equally offensive in a strange way is when it seems ones posts are completely ignored because seemingly you're not part of 'the in crowd'. Come to think of it, sending a poster "to Coventry" on here when they post offensive remarks is probably far more effective than a ban in some respects.

What a fabulous win...dunno, I had a strange feeling it would be 1-3 (see build-up thread) and I've not felt quietly confident about Saints for...well, years. Pimpley lose to Spurds too - oh, wonderful weekend I love you. Bring on the Dons (err, I think that could be tougher tho).

I like your rainwater in a hole analogy, although I'm not so sure you entirely hit the point home. To answer your point regarding dinosaurs and extinction, there are traces of their lineage left today - e.g. crocodiles, alligators and sharks to name the most obvious. Not only that, but there is very clear geological evidence that (a) dinosaurs existed once...(b) there was some kind of extinction event that wiped them almost completely from the face of the earth. There is clear evidence also that there have been other extinction events and there may be more to come in the future. The link to your later points here is, will man be able to mature such that he is able to survive a future extinction event? Right now the answer would have to be a resounding NO! We have all the right intelligence and attributes to enable mankinds survival, however world politics, religion, economics and a host of other factors would probably get in the way. Lastly, I too like the "God was a genecist" idea. I too find the old civiliations knowledge of astromony, mathematics and other science baffling on the one hand, but also strangely exciting to contemplate. Imagine that somewhere in the mists of time spacemen visited Earth and made some form of contact with our ancestors. How could they possibly describe to them the context of their magical powers (incredible powers such as electricity and movement in the air for example)? The locals would treat these newcomers as gods...and the 'gods' might attempt to explain aspects of society in terms and stories our ancestors might understand. Eventually the stories - handed down generation to generation - get distorted and used by successive generations to wield power and influence people. None of the above is any more likely than any other explanation frankly. What really wrankles me is that so many are unable to keep an open mind, but then that is at the heart of all of humankinds religions for obvious reasons.

You clearly didn't get hooked into the Pards thread that turned into a very deep and meaningful discussion on religion and the meaning of Liff (lol). Mind you that somehow didn't descend into petty name calling - amazing what a few wins will achieve isn't it?

Stick Mods?

As most others have said, this should not be a problem. The ticket has been paid for and gifted to you, so no reason why you should not get in.

I do dislike it when the players current Manager says "we wouldn't stand in his way if he wants to go". Makes it sound like they're glad to see the back of him!
-
Here we go again. Funny, I do not feel the same level of anxiety now with an impending away game coming up. I actually am starting to believe we can win these games now and win them convincingly. So - here we go... Oldham 1 - Saints 3 That'll do...
-
LOL - very good.

Ah, so God may in fact be a biologist or indeed a geneticist?

The idea that an after-life was possible was born out of myth and superstution thousands of years ago in societies we have no grasp of really understanding as we cannot 'wind-back' our intelligence to those ages. Its relationship to the modern religions has IMO inhibited mans ability to mature further and this has been perpetuated by all the relegious faiths. I would contest the bleakness of no after-life is felt because our everyday lives are somewhat empty and devoid of true fulfillment as an advanced modern society. As you say, nobody can prove or dis-prove whether a 'God' exists or if an after-life is around the corner - so why not ignore these unsolvable problems and get on with making life bearable for ALL humanity? THAT would be a wonderful thing indeed.
-
Agreed, but perhaps he feels that force of arguement is needed to counter the balance away from the 'religious' angle? (Blast - got dragged in again).
-
The path to divinity (whatever God you chose to believe in) will only be realised in the positive actions and thoughts that we as individuals exhibit in our free will. Unfortunately this meaning has been diluted and distorted over the centuries by the religions of mankind. For example, do you become closer to God by attending church every Sunday and begging forgiveness or by freely showing a stranger kindness in someway? Actions speak much louder than words. And with that, although the debate is enjoyable and informative, I'm out.

Why does that matter? And who's God should we see? If there is such an entity as 'God', why should we be able to see Him/Her/Them/It atall? I am of the view that IF there is some form of life after death, we have no chance of ever coming close to imagining what that would be like. At the same level as a stone-age man not having a vision of riding a bicycle or turning on a light-switch for example. These everyday acts would be beyond not only his comprehension, but completely outside the context of his life entirely. Even though we have the intelligence to discuss 'after-life', this will never bring us closer to actual knowledge of what that experience might be. Faith means accepting that we will not know until we die - so why bother arguing and killing in the name of something that cannot be proven? Fact is, the evidence is impossible to obtain, so why not leave that quest behind? The sooner the human race collectively starts looking for the answers to the problems it faces in bettering the lives of all LIVING humans rather than relying on antiquated beliefs to drive the important aspects of life like compassion, love, sincerity etc, the closer to true divinity we will all be.

Jan Poortvliet in relegation battle (again)
Saint Fan CaM replied to CHAPEL END CHARLIE's topic in The Saints
Quite - one of his final acts of blind stupidity and incompetence whilst managing the club. Never mind, it's thankfully all in the past now. -
I just hope if he's a fast winger that he can (4)skin his opponents down to the byline.
-
I have just finished reading a book based on Fermat's Last Theorem. It was quite good. HTH.

Jan Poortvliet in relegation battle (again)
Saint Fan CaM replied to CHAPEL END CHARLIE's topic in The Saints
His reputation precedes him and wherever he goes he leaves a legacy of failure like a lingering bad smell. Don't buy the nice guy thing - he's not a good manager simple. -
Yep, just what I was thinking - he could do worse than coming in for a few of the players we've got kicking around making up the numbers - Pulis per chance?
-
Oh dear, another better supporter than you thread.

The religions founded by the human race have conspired to hide the truth of God from all humanity. When religion is no longer needed, humanity will begin to live in harmony and finally come of age. We are still squabbling infants - a long way from experiencing and exhibiting a maturity that at this point in time we can barely understand, in the same manner as a pre-historic man would not understand the meaning of a chocolate Easter egg or the lights on a Christmas tree. There have been far too many attrocities acted out in the name of human religion over the last 3,000 or so years unfortunately. And too few good acts born directly out of religion. The creation of wealth is not a bad thing - the squandering or harbouring of it most certainly is. I will refrain from providing examples of this, but there are obvious ones even at the heart of various large institutions over the ages. ML does not squander his money by supporting a community institution such as Saints FC - far from it - he has helped maintain jobs and a positive focus in a great city for example. His is more an act of generosity and kindness rather than of personal gain I would argue and in that alone he has exhibited a small aspect of humanities potential 'moral maturity' irrespective of his 'religious' beliefs. IMHO.

Shame he's been found wanting in some way...I thought he was one the better players from the Dutch period (poor as that was), but I guess if the mindset is wrong in terms of losing mentality, sometimes the only way to sort it out is to move club. Good luck to him if he moves on.

Mmm. Good interview and nice to see he's keen. However, I would like to have read something about his knowledge of Ricky Lambert - whether they are getting on well in training etc.
