How much control should the chairman have over signings?
Smirking_Saint replied to old_southy's topic in The Saints
Of course he is, otherwise Utd would be further in debt you melt. Besides, your sort of missing the point, Adkins is a toddler in the managerial department compared to SAF Out of interest who are the NC signings and who are the NA ones ? -

How long have they been at their respective clubs ? Slightly different situation, a committee is about continuity, they are not in any risk, and like TDD says, they wont get everyone they want. -
Raw maybe but he has talent, looks physically a decent prospect, not the quickest but clearly feels very comfortable in front of goal, decent touch. Most are Raw at that age, you just need to look at the potential, and he could be a decent player That said, he needs tonplay against better opposition to see more

What exactly do you think happens ? NC sits on FM then goes on a mad one and signs players ? -

Yup Totally agree, nothing has shown this works better than Dagliesh and his spending spree and the pre redknapp hughes revolution at QPR You are 100% bang on -
I will concede though that if it was not for the poor standard of the bottom 6 this year we would be in real trouble but yes that mini table shows we are probably the best of a bad bunch and TBH on current form probably a mid table side

The OTT anti saints drama aside, he sorta has a point -
I literally could not believe that result, nor could my Reading supporting mate that said they seriously didnt deserve it, from the highlights they were destroyed for the first 80 or so minutes, then they just capitulated. A lot will hang on their next result though, a decent win will give them a platform, a lose and its back to square one. As for relegation fodder, WHU could get sucked in but unlikely, Newcastle are in turmoil, players leaving etc, something seriously wrong here, expect revelations soon, there is a very real chance they could go. Reading arent good enough though, QPR have too much to do, but could escape if Villa and one other capitulate. I think we will be ok, a couple of serious signings we could finish comfortably.

Cant figure out if ironic or not.........

Which is why I said only a CB really, Fabio does look a decent player, MBia looks decent, Diakite had a decent start to the season but seemed to get dragged down as it went on. Their CBs are poor TBH and yes a decent goalscorer would do them the world of good. Tbh though, I wasnt overly impressed, they looked ok, another day with a bit more luck Spurs would have hammered them. Spurs is another short of a top goal scorer BTW, Adebayor just looks a shell of what he did all those years ago at the arse -

They have too many players on massive wages without relegation release clauses or relegation reduction clauses, it really is sh!t or bust down there. Harry really has made a poor decision here, they were in bad shakes anyway, the majority are there for a final, large pay check and dont have the desire to get out of a relegation scrap and the others probably lack the ability, add to this the in fighting its a worse situation then he gambled. If they go down its on his CV, and if they dont spend they will go down. Its really not HRs remit to protect the club financially, he has been told to keep them up, as if the go down they are in sh!t streak. With a decent CB, CM and goalscorer they may just do it, but personally I think they are gone. I suppose itll depend on Villa not improving and newcastle going into freefall, if that happens its possible. -

Cash and a relegation release clause goes a long way Not ITK btw but if I was in HRs position thats what Ill be doing -
Very buggy, very frustrating, match engine is crap.

This is the Saints fan base buddy, I cant explain why we turn on players so easily, but we do. And Adkins is almost forced to play him out wide, it seemed to me this weekend it was him or SDR, he wasnt that bad against Villa anyway.
-
I think he is the scapegoat at the moment
-
His catching, dominance of the box and faith in him from those around him is so much better than Davis or Gazza. I agree regarding the save that dropped to Benteke, that was poor, but other than that I didnt see what he did wrong, the save at the feet late on was very good, not even sure poor old Davis' legs can carry him that far. Dont really understand the clampur to get a keeper back in whose failure has caused us dropped points, so he can replace one that is improving, looks better and hasnt caused us lost points recently. I agree that I would take a top keeper now, but if Boruc keeps it up, I wouldnt replace him just yet.
-
Well no, generally such as against Arsenal he looks a better player when played through the middle, more involved and sees more of the ball, his attacking instincts dont detriment either flank there either. Even in those games those around him dont quite look like they are on the same level, doesnt make his ability any less. As per buying players, itll happen eventually, or those we have will get used to him. I remember Ince at WWFC caused lots of problems and training incidents as those around him were just not good enough for his brain.
-
None of which are probably on his level, Morgan maybe but he hasnt really played around the same Quality as Gaston.
-
Looking at it another way I think it was an oppurtunity to go out and get one of the most promising young players in world football at the moment for what is a reasonable price for age and ability. We went out and got the deal done, I dont think it was at the detriment of other positions, but on top off. In that respect I am happy he is here, when he adapts and is back through the middle he will show his obvious quality
-
This really, brain wise I think he is the best player at the club, but he is wasted out wide. He needs to be played through the middle to get the most of the ball. I didnt see him vs Villa but other than that I cant see how he isnt a hard worker, he chases harries and tries to get tackles in like the rest. For me the players around him are not on his level, added to things not quite working out for him. He hasnt lived up to his price tag yet, but thats not due to a lack of ability.

Nope, not really my posting style at all TBH, but well done for knowing your arguement. Generally I respect who I argue with, and its not your opinion BTW its the way you stuff it down everyones kneck and the manner you post. Ill always post objectively, I dont think I come accross too bad, maybe Im wrong but Id hope most on here will say Im generally ok, swear too much maybe. Your a c*nt though, pure and simple
