The thing is he can't just walk away, he has to try and sell the club. To do that he's going to have to keep financing it until he finds a buyer or he could lose everything. The person he sells to will have money therefore they will be able to afford to continue spending what ML starts.

If a player was that close to being in the squad 6th or 7th choice for the bench then they wouldn't be out on loan. They would also not be on the 5 man bench. They would be sat in the stands twiddling their thumbs p*ssed off they have no chance of playing a first team match that week. The 7 subs allows them to be in the squad, giving the manager more options so there is less need to play players out of position in the case of injury and more chance of players getting experience in the first team squad so they don't feel they are being left out in the cold.
