While of course Matt is a Saints legend and will always be so, it does not mean that he is always right about things - Especially his misreading of the Pinnacle bid. Cortese is absolutely correct that the Pinnacle bid delayed our preparations and pre-season and while I accept Matt's role within it was a figurehead and not a decision maker - The main Pinnacle people were tyrekickers of the first order and the time they wasted certainly did not help Pards in being able to hit the ground running. Cortese did not mention anybody by name but he is right to say to anybody casting rumours " Butt Out" !

A very firm, well constructed and welcome statement from NC. Here is a man wholly in charge of his strategy and knows what must be done to achieve it - And he will not be diverted by any outside influences, whether they be well meaning or not! His stock just gets higher with me. :smt023

Without a shadow of doubt and by some distance, Pearson is the better manager! His presence, powers of motivation and tactical nouse far outweigh anything that Burley might have in these areas. Burley might have been let down by some players but many were his own signings (generally very poor), and his own choices ( sometimes incomprehensible) ! Pearson has re-juvenated Leicester in two seasons and shows no sign of stopping there.

There you are Avram - As the Average White Band once sung.. "Lets go round again"

Connolly away at Oldham was my particular favourite. A class finish from a prem class striker.
-
Bigger name and indeed a bigger girth like Greenback for example ! Far more industrial units available in the East End perhaps

With Lowe gone, Richard Chorley finally has nothing left to say and stops posting !
-
I wish you all good luck Duncan. I am generally not sympathetic towards strikes as they impact the innocent and not the guilty! But I do also have a strong sense of right, and it seems that you have not been treated right.

My favourite World Cup ( I was too young to remember 1966) ! My overriding memory was being in a Swiss hotel at the time of the semi-final - A lone Englishmen amongst Swiss, Swedes and German's. Lineker's equaliser caused me to leap and yell in triumphant celebration, as you do of course at such times, and to suddenly realise that the Swiss and the Swedes were leaping and yelling in celebration alongside me. The Germans however were not amused ! Pity about the end result though but great memories... And a moment again to remember the greatness that was Sir Bobby!

Agree on all counts.
-
Agree. If HMRC are prepared to go after other clubs for relatively small amounts, they would surely go after PFC with the £16 to £20 million they owe - Its big bucks and worth their time and effort.
-
Now that has made my day! League 1's Top scorer for the 3rd consecutive season anybody ?
-
I'm afraid it was'nt perceived wisdom SOG Burley was bloody useless and I certainly got what I wished for when the daft Scots took him off our hands! Our only way was up after he went.
-
Agree. £20 million ( or so) is certainly worth some time and effort to go after !

Could the cups have dented promotion this season..?
Foxstone replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
Hindsight is a wonderful thing of course ! While I think it crowded our schedule a bit, I tend to agree with Clarkey above. I am convinced the cup runs have instilled a winning mentality within the squad, not least proof if ever we needed it that we can turn over the likes of Norwich and Charlton. Up until those times we were having difficulty getting results out of the top teams in our league. And notwithstanding having a great day out, the JPT is at least a trophy banked! -
Absolutely. A natural born gift that Steve had !
-
Steve suffered bad injuries while he was still comparatively young, and at a time when "medical science" for footballers was not the same high standards as we find today. But I do think that had he escaped from those injuries he could have easily been an England international every bit as good as Owen.

Buffoon is already there! Goes by the name of Androniku I beleive
-
Absolutely right! Comparing Numpty Burley's success and demeanor with Pards is like comparing apples and pears. Pards has bought well and delivered well. Burley could not buy and deliver a newspaper! Answer to original post question is a resounding "YES" BTW...
-
NC's behaviour does not worry me at all SOG. I like his positive vision and his desire to keep everybody on their toes and focussed towards delivering the goals he has set. There might have been a danger that "old Saints apathy" could have crept in - For example, accepting a mindset that we are too far behind to reach the play-offs and therefore accepting this "defeat" rather than focussing on the fact that WE CAN MAKE IT! Cortese has set the standard and I like his attitude. I'm sure he regards Pards as having delivered a good season but it is'nt over yet in his eyes, nor should it be!
-
Agree that Pards has done a magnificent job this season. We were a broken club but are well under way to being nursed back to full health and Pards has certainly played his part in doing that. I'm sure that NC as the architect of our recovery, does recognise the good job Pards has done, and will continue to back him into next season.

A class finisher, with a great "shoulder drop" that wrong-footed many a defender. One of our 1980's best!
-
And the good news continues to roll in ! A top appointment in that particular position and a real statement of intent from Nicola. Compare our greatly improving fortunes to that shower down the other end of the M27, and reflect on how the balance of power is shifting quickly and markedly our way again!
