To anyone who went - would I be right in assuming Jay Rod was played out wide again rather than as a two up front with Rickie ?

How many tactical mistakes is Adkins allowed?
beatlesaint replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
Agree with that. Attack as a team, defend as a team. We dont defend as a team and the simple reason is players in the Prem are faster and stronger than our midfield have been used to and they get over run, exposing the defence. The defence is, as we all know, a bit shaky so put the two things together and its no wonder we are shipping goals. I dont get this theory about why Morgan being out injured doesn't help. Ok he is a very good player but he aint much defensively. -
I find it totally absurd that because Cortese did not look happy some people have decided he is sharpening the knives ready for Adkins. Sorry but after seeing his tean lose was he supposed to be sat there with a bloody stupid big grin on his face ? ffs.

2 Goalkeepers amongst the fab four eh ? Oh well done Echo, brilliant as usual. Could easily have has Mayuka there to make it at least sound a bit realisitc !
-
Definitely David. He's in the same Masons lodge as someone I used to work with.

Pity, always better when Cork is either in the side or ready to come off the bench.

Cant agree with the comments about Richardson not being able to cross the ball. Watch the DVD of last season's goals and see the number of assists he had. Like the look of Jay Rod - as a centre forward at last ! Amazing what happens when someone is played in the natural position. Best I have seen De Ridder play for us. Now if only he would look up before crossing he might still have something to offer us.

Yeah it is irrelevant unfortunately, I have tried on my PC, works PC, a laptop, the wifes i-pad, all with the same result.

Crap isn't it ? Took me 5 attempts to open the story about our new keeper last night.

Most on here said the Burnley fans had a touch of sour grapes about Fox going hence the criticism of him. Seems to me they were spot on. I do hope we dont have to witness his unique style of defending again. Richardson isn't brilliant but he's better than Fox so keep Clyne on the left, Frazer at right back and if we can get a decent freebie left or right back in so be it, otherwise hope these two can do the job until the January window. As Clyne looked so comfortable at left back I dont think its a major issue whether we strengthen left or right side. Just as long as we strengthen one of them.

He hasn't come here to be No. 3 behind Kelvin and Gazza. I just wonder what the pecking order will be. Next few weeks once Boruc has got his match sharpness will be very interesting.
-
The only time they were in complete control was from when they scored through to the half time whistle as we went to pieces a bit during that period. To claim the whole half out of that iis ridiculous. You can keep your rose tinted specs on, they are not faulty

The team may be, but I doubt it, the city certainly isnt, as you will see next week if you go up there !!

That was my thoughts exactly, I didnt like to say in case it was an over reaction to the win today but he looks the most composed player I have seen in 35 years of watching The Saints.

Can the media wake up, smell the coffee and cut the crap with this "amazing support" b/s they dish up EVERYTIME poopey are mentioned ? 12,000 today for a (fairly) local derby, in ideal weather conditions for watching football, and that includes probably 2000 Swindon fans. Like everything else connected with that sorry excuse for a football club its all lies, smoke screens, and a trick of the light :-)

Kelvin Davis has always been an enigma for me. When he is good he is very good, but when he is off form he is very very poor. Its not knee jerk, its not looking for someone to blame, its a fact. Anyone who has watched Kelvion since he came here is more than aware of his good spell/bad spell periods. I doubt its a coincidence that his one season in the Prem at Sunderland was so horrific. Unless he is on top form he does not command the area, he rarely comes and claims croses and his near post defending is abysmal. Its almost like everything he knows goes out the window when he isnt on top of his game. He has been a great servant to us, he has had some fantastic spells of goalkeeping for us and by all accounts he is a top bloke BUT he has looked very poor so far this season and I cant believe Nigel as a former keeper himself hasn't noticed it. But until January its Kelvin or Gazza......and if we go for Gazza and he isn't ready then thats his confidence blown.

Hanson worried for Saints lose next to and game over!
beatlesaint replied to Saints Warrior's topic in The Saints
I hope all those with rose coloured glasses regarding the left side of our defence noticed that bloody great square they drew that showed just how much space is available to any attacking player who so wishes to use it !! Its so big it must almost qualify as a prairie !! -
Make that the last two seasons. He was actually better in the Championship than he was in League 1 but with the Premiership being so ruthless it is a major concern. I wonder how many times he was beaten at his near post in his "nightmare" Premiership season for Sunderland ?
-
Ok, there 11 players are better than ours in every comparison this afternoon, so thats 22. They are at home this time and not away. Newcastle were/are better than us. We are not tactically aware enough to mount any sort of pressure. will that do ?
-
of course they will.......and its pretty much what Championship managers were saying last year too I suspect. Still Fox has scored so he will keep his place next week.....oh hang on, there is a 17 year old as an alternative isnt there ?
-
I can give you about 25 reasons why we cant if you like

The only major mistake that I can think that Nigel has made was in the United game with those substitutions. Now wether he was naieve or had more faith in the players that came on than anyone else does I have no idea. But to take off your three best players on the day was a bad, bad move. They couldnt have all been knackered, and if they were then does that indicate the fitness levels aren't what they should be ? I cant say I have ever really noticed the players flagging at the end of games in the past two years under Nigel. I hope he has learnt somethig from that. The players, manager and most of the coaching staff are on a learning curve in this league. I hope NC remembers that before his trigger finger gets a bit itchy.

Injured in training on Friday.

Another vote for Everton in the Cup at Highbury in 84. Longest journey home ever, totally totally heartbroken that day.

Its always gonna sell better than the one a few years back simply because we are a Premier League team now and that generates more interest (and sales) worldwide. The Japanese people wandering around St Marys in their new shirts being a case in point. Gates have gone up in 3 years, shirt sales will too. If its got the club badge on it people will buy it, and I believe thats whats happened this season. Doesnt make the kit popular though.
