Yes that’s unbelievable, he should be calling out Stephens for letting down what was a patchwork team that started off quite well - at least until Chelsea adapted to the 7 changes they made. To try and stick up for him and paper over the petulance of that sending off is embarrassing

Absolutely, the main tweak is to play the retaining the ball style of football (tappy tappy to some) further up the pitch, in and around the centre circle would be a good start. Move the element of risk further away from the goal which enables you to have defenders well behind the ball if/when you lose it. Its really not difficult and i cannot for the life of me work out why RM hasnt made that change.

Absolutely right BUT a bad manager is one who oversees his players making the same errors week after week after week without addressing it or making a small change, ie stop passing it around in your own penalty area, in order to cut down on the errors/risk.

I think they are fiddling as Rome burns cos they honestly didn’t expect to get promoted last season given the utter shit show RM inherited. This was going to be the season to gain promotion in their 10 year plan, I’m bloody convinced it was. This season has shown the board and the manager as totally unprepared. Niether has a clue what to do except wait for the inevitable relegation. When you get the manager come out with shite like “umm, I should maybe have started him before” regarding a player he watches everyday in training (Tall Paul in this instance) you just know reading between the lines that the guy is clueless. SR probably think this season is a practice run for when we get promoted and are prepared both financially and squad wise. They seem to treat this as a real life version of FM !!

Whilst there are some players who will defintely go - Ramsdale, KWP, THB, Frenandes and Dibling - I'm not so sure many others will be wanted. If we persist with RM and finish bottom by a long way several players stock will drop, Downes being an obvious name that comes to mind. I would hope Lallana stays on as a player but think it more likely he will get a job on the coaching side at the club. We will be stuck with the crap for sure but Championship quality players will still be here, and I think Archer/Armstrong and hopefully Tall Paul will score plenty in the Championship, the defence should be adequate at the very least as well.....especially if we have a manager who understands how to defend instead of "being brave"

I couldn’t face going today so watched on Sky. I’m no fan of Carragher but he was absolutely right in what he said about us, and that is basically there are times when you have to be sensible and knock the ball long to get it away from trouble. He went on to say “that doesn’t make Southampton a long ball team all of a sudden” If only RM would understand that, it baffles me that as a central defender he still refuses to acknowledge it…..and to take a pop at fans…..unbelievable

According to the genius of a manager it’s not serious, just fatigue…….but his record with reporting injuries is dodgy so we’ll see
