  1. Still can't believe that people, who've heard Adkins talk again and again about having a squad of players, not just a starting XI, and how the whole squad stick together and support each other, think that a player might have been brought in as 'back up'. He was signed to improve the squad. His time will no doubt come, and hopefully he'll show his qualities. Until then, he's just one more member of the squad ready to be called upon.
  2. Someone else beat you to it on the other thread The9...
  3. After Nigel's use of the boxer video, prancing his way into the ring only to be knocked out after a few seconds, it wouldn't surprise me if he used this as well, to focus the players for the run-in. He's big on taking things one game at a time, we all know that, we hear it in his and his players' interviews, and I am certain he'll be keeping the players' feet on the ground. But something like this just helps keep that focus. I'm quietly confident now that we will be promoted, but it never hurts to remember things like this.
  4. We bought him to add quality to our squad. And that's what he has done. With increasing fitness, I'm sure he'll play more of a part, but no player is guarenteed a place and as said above, who would argue with the way Adkins is managing this side at present?
  5. God bless my nagging doubt.
  6. Wahay! 'What they don't want to do now is concede' No **** Dave. There's always one every game.
  7. Keep the faith people - could be 4-0 up but as long as we don't get impatient we'll be fine.
  8. Dammit, another save, but sounds like a good start.
  9. But what point is there in comparing these things? As I said above, different events mean different things to different people. Every situation is unique. Any death is tragic, and will need to be investigated to find out how and why it happened, and any collapse, like Muamba's must also be treated seriously and investigated etc, etc. If you don't agree with what has occurred surrounding Muamba, that's fine. If it was down to you, you would've done things differently. Great. But if Bolton choose to postpone their game, and have agreement of those affected, that is up to them. I actually agree with your underlying sentiment to some extent, but fully respect their decision to do so if they want to because i'm not directly involved. To criticise them for any action is rather crass IMO, and attempts to compare one occurrence with another are a bit perverse IMO.
  10. I found myself agreeing with those who expect Reading and West Ham to win tonight, but now I just have this nagging doubt (albeit a good doubt!) Boro have been pretty poor of late. They were crap against Leeds and Birmingham after fairly routine wins vs Barnsley and the Skates. But Mowbray will be looking for a response, and couple that with West Ham's nerves and anxieties at home, I just wonder... As for Reading, no denying their form but Peterborough beat Blackpool in their last home game and showed up pretty well at in-form Ipswich. They've had a mixed bag but they're capable of pulling a result out. Could be an interesting evening.
  11. Not to mention some of the exceptionally fortunate goals West Ham have got, not least their own winner against Millwall when the 'wall keeper was completely taken out and the ref didn't give it. It happens to us all, for and against, they need to man up and get on with it.
  12. It is neither 'right' nor 'wrong' but simply a fact that the greater exposure any event gets, the greater the volume of responses to it. Muamba collapsed during a live Premiership match, watched by millions of people, so it will naturally attract a lot of comment and reaction. There are, sadly, many many deaths and injuries and similar occurrances around the world on a daily basis. We all know this, we read about some of it, we witness some of it, but we carry on our lives around it. Every similar occurrence probably deserves the same acknowledgement, and any individuals involved deserve the same attention but it doesn't happen that way, unless the media, or increasingly social media, promote it and make people aware of it. Footballers and fellow sportsmen will naturally relate to the situation more than most, and be more likely to comment. Some because they know Muamba well and consider him a friend who they naturally want to recover. Most if not all others will be thinking 'that could've been me'... the human in you relates to the situation and the fact that 'there but for the grace of God' ... We all relate more to things that we have a connection with to. Of those same daily events mentioned above, some will affect us more than others depending on circumstances. Those of us with family members with certain conditions will follow stories about others with the same condition more. We sometimes watch tv programs about specific things that really get to us, because we relate to the person who is a similar age to us, or who does the same job etc... links are made and a relationship is formed, however tenuous. I should've been on a tube heading to Liverpool Street station at 0850 on 7/7 when the London bombings happened. My meeting was cancelled, and it still freaks me out to this day what might have been. Others have forgotten about the events of that day and don't give it much thought. But the bottom line is it is not down to anyone else to tell me, or you, how to feel about such situations or conditions or events. I fully respect anyone who doesn't have the same strength of feeling as me about something, but I would hope they would respect my feelings if it does affect me. The 'football family' has been shocked my Muamba's collapse for a variety of reasons. I actually agree with Hypo to some extent, that IMO some of the reaction is more than I would've expected, but it is not my place to tell people that, so I read the stories and watch the news that I want to watch, and then turn it off when I've seen enough, and leave others to it out of respect for their feelings. The presence of social media and places like this forum make it a lot easier to express messages and feelings. If it were around in previous years, it would've been used by our ancestors, but it wasn't. Awareness of events may have been less, but the emotions and feelings would've been no less significant for people when they knew about them, and whilst discussion wouldn't have taken place on the same scale, you can be sure that people would've exchanged views and feelings as freely as we do on Twitter or Facebook wherever they could. Clubs have done and are doing what they feel is appropriate. I also agree that there have been other scenarios with other players that have not had the same reaction, but who is to say what is 'right' and 'wrong'? In this day and age, there are people lining up to criticise any action OR inaction but it's more likely that they will do something rather than nothing IMO.
  13. That's EXACTLY what I'd expect from you, so if you're not going to do them, I'm quite happy!
  14. An alternative suggestion from someone who has used Sage and Quickbooks before... Kashflow. Also cloud based, it is perceived by some as being underpowered but it depends what you need it to do. It is powerful enough for me and most importantly, is exceptionally user-friendly, which I've never been able to say about Sage or QB. Support is excellent and accountants access is free. Accountants used to the likes of Sage may not like it so much, but for the end user, the business owner or bookkeeper who is not a qualified accountant, it is excellent IMO.
  15. An original thread idea, I like! I have no contribution, but I like.
  16. trousers, back yourself, follow Bateman's advice and make 'em yourself. F*ck Aunt Bessie. Not literally like, but, well... you know.
  17. I see what you did there Bearsy. Amusing. And The9, what Hannah does with our chocolate is our business and no one elses. ;-)
  18. You probably don't need to be told every time, but having worked at an airport for 65% of my working life, trust me, there are many others who DO!
  19. Assuming you're talking about your children potentially causing the damage from playing with aforementioned Footballs/Rugby balls then here's the advice from CAB: So, yes, you can be liable, despite all your previous efforts, but it is unlikely it would get that far. Probably better to speak to the new owners once they move in and see what they say.
  20. I don't think he was the 'wrong' signing at the time necessarily, but quite agree with the rest of that post. We are where we are, learn from the past and focus on the future.

  22. Don't be silly. We all make judgements about players, managers, teams, and we've all been wrong at one time or another. Based on the evidence at the time, people made a judgement, there's no shame in that. However yet again, the one thing this thread does prove is that as much as we may believe in our opinions, never underestimate the ability of any player, manager or team to prove you completely wrong. Have an opinion by all means, but accept that it is just that and remain open-minded about what might happen.
  23. And yet was distinctly average at Carlisle, I thought.
  24. Anyone who has to fly for work, has it paid for by their employer, which is in turn paid for by their 'customers'... not really any different. MEP's have a job to do, they have to fly for it, and if that meant that they weren't allowed to discuss taxes or anything that may also impacts upon how they do their job, then it would be silly. I'll say again, for clarity, that I'm not saying this tax itself is a 'good thing' but you need to separate the issues if you want to debate them properly.
  25. Good day in OUR office...
