  1. I don't want to go digging over old ground as 04/05 has been done to death, but there's more too it than just players. It all ultimately boils down to the chairman. Killer injured - No suitable replacement found - Poor managerial decision - Wrong manager appointed - Chairman is responsible Beattie out of form - Doesn't want to be here - Offers from Newcastle and Villa - Not cashing in on want away player - Chairman is responsible Defence is shipping goals - Defence lacks quality and organisation - Manager incapable of organising team - Chairman is responsible Redknapp fails to turn form around - Redknapp's heart isn't really in it - It's too little too late - Chairman is responsible
  2. Oh what fabulous irony. In response to your second paragraph, I agree the manager is the most important man at the club when it comes to the performance on the pitch. But who hires and fires managers? Who sanctions the million pounds of transfer fees and wages when a manager wants to sign a player? Who's responsible for getting the best price when a big club comes knocking for our best players?
  3. Would explain why Charlton are 3rd.
  4. So, you don't think how the club is run is in any way important then? Getting relegated in 2005 with pretty much the same squad that got to the cup final 2 years before was completely down to Killer's injury? Saints definitely didn't go into aministration in 2009 because of terrible mismanagement in the boardroom? So we should only applaud people who run around a lot and jump around in front of the fans when they score a goal? What about Adkins, he just stands there in the technical area shouting, surely he doesn't deserve any recognition for that. As for Cortese pocketing a nice amount of cash... I suppose Lambert signed for us because he quite likes the Chinese restaurants in Millbrook? As for Cortese wanting to make money from the fans... No sh*t! He's the chairman of a business who has to answers to the owners when it comes to the financial success of the company. I agree the booking fee is a bit of a pain in the tits, but I've bought tickets for loads of stuff when there has been an extra fee of some description. It's hardly groundbreaking stuff.
  5. So we should all sit in silence until promotion from the Championship is confirmed? Why sing songs for Adkins, Lambert or Lallana then? Everyone who is employed at SFC is there primarily for a job. If we stopped paying them, they'd all bugger off eventually. Cortese may never put a 30 yard free kick in the top corner, but his role is more crucial than any of the players. He also seems to be a quietly passionate man in the rare interviews he does give. Don't see why people shouldn't sing songs for him. As for the original post, I wouldn't have clapped BWP if I'd been there. Wouldn't boo him either, but when he was here I remember him looking crap and lazy in most games he played.
  6. Two years later and they've found it. http://www.bea.aero/fr/enquetes/vol.af.447/images.du.site.php Some chilling images there, but investigators are hopeful they can find the black box data recorders.
  7. I don't think Colchester have got much of a chance to be honnest.
  8. I can't remember watching Martin play a bad game. Seaborne on the other hand had a 'mare up against a bit of pace at Posh.
  9. ---------------------- Davis --------------------- Frazer ------- Martin ------- Fonte ------- Harding Butters -----Stephens -----Hammond ------Lallana -------------Lambert ------- Barnard ------------ Subs: Bart, Jaidi, Guly, Chaplow, Forte, Dickson, Connolly I'd give Jaidi a rest, especially seeing as their main threat is BWP who really isn't all that when it comes to strength and aerial threat. I'd drop Guly and Chaplow from Saturday and I think Forte is more of an impact player.
  10. Bart in goal, he's the future. Defence looks alright, but I'd replace Jaidi and Seaborne. If Mills stays, would loan/sell Dickson. Midfield pretty good. Keep Stephens, replace Holmes and anyone else who leaves. Don't sign Guess. Up front Barnard and Lambert will be good, need at least 1 more. Nugent would be brilliant (on so many levels) if he'd take a wage cut.
  11. What has Hammond done wrong in the 5 out of 6 games we've won since Morgan's injury?
  12. I said it was impressive. Maybe Texas has a lot fewer stadiums in the 30-50 thousand seater ranges, I've no idea. They certainly seem to like their sports over there.
  13. When I say realistic, I mean players we had half a chance of keeping if we'd made more of an effort. I'm not writing off Forte and Guess yet, I'm just saying I haven't seen anything close to Antonio's contribution so far.
  14. It's important to remember there are 25 million people in Texas. It's not like having a load of 100,000 seater stadiums in Staffordshire or something. Still impressive though.
  15. There's no point in raking either if you're just going to rake stuff into a hedge, 6 inches away from the path.
  16. I was always slightly baffled by the signing of Dickson. We have Harding and Mills who are both very capable LB players and the team sheet comes pre-printed with Lallana at LM. The only way I can see him having a role next season is if we fail to go up and Donny sign Mills permanently. If we do go up, Mills could well be our first choice at LB. In midfield I just don't rate him. Even if Lallana is injured, I'd rather have someone else. Thoughts?
  17. Oakley was class, not sure why he got slated really. He just needed an energetic player next to him doing the work. Wright was crap. Being played in a variety of possitions doesn't make you a utility player. I saw him play terribly at LB, RB, CM and RM on several occasions. Apparently he even played LM once, but I didn't see that. Telfer was a decent right sided player to have in the squad. Idiakez was old and knackered. At the time it looked like a good deal, but clearly the guy was crocked and never really did it on the few occasions he was fit. Pele was a quality holding player. Him and Guthrie were probably the best CM pairing we had under Burley. Viafara was good at running at defences and causing panic, but ultimately he was too much of a liability with his (lack of) passing. Prutton I thought was better than JV.
  18. You know April fools is over at 12pm yeah? The fact that we lost on penalties is only half the story. You're missing the, 'only scraping into the play offs after winning our last 3 games of the season, despite spending more money than anyone except Sunderland,' bit. Would you be saying the same this season if we finished 6th and lost the play off semi to Bompey on pens?
  19. I've got one of the council wombles wandering around outside my flat blowing leaves off the path with one of those petrol powered blowers. Seems like the most pointless exercise known to man. It stinks, it's noisy as f**k and it doesn't acheive anything. In half an hours' time, a light breeze will have blown through and the path will look exactly the same.
  20. Euell definitely. He was always a donkey who somehow managed to save his reputation by putting in 5 decent performances in each of the 2 seasons he spent here. BWP too. I know he has scored a few this season, but I was glad to see the back of him and would much rather have Barnard. DMG really wasn't that good and £1m is well over the odds for him.
  21. I'll pass on that one thanks. Think this video had been posted before, but it's quite good: The crowd size is pretty impressive, but then the yanks have always liked their college football games. Having said that, this is the state university of Wisconsin, which has a similar population to Greater London. It's not exactly Nottingham Trent against Bournemouth Polytech.
  22. There are no '6 pointers' left, so every game is equally important. It's irrelevant when you get the points, it's the total at the end of the season that counts. In that respect the Dons game is no more or less important than the others.
  23. I'm thinking players we could have realistically kept here, not people like Bale, Theo, Surman etc. GK - Richard Wright - Looked far more composed in his cameo than I've ever seen Kelvin look. RB - Wayne Thomas - Would have had to take a pay cut, but I doubt Donny are paying him billions. LB - Gregory Vignal - Again maybe would have needed a pay cut at a time we were broke, so a tad ambitious there. CB - Jan Paul Saeijs - I know Jaidi has been excellent this year, but Saeijs was a monster, with very little help from his team mates. CB - Matt Mills - I know he wanted to go, but if only Redknapp had recognised his tallent instead of signing Powell and Haijto, he probably would have stayed. RM - Michail Antonio - 10 times better than anything I've seen from Forte or Guess. CM - Mario Licka - Would have been a decent, relatively cheap option under Poortaloo/WTF CM - Matt Oakley - Yes, this one's been done to death, but he was far more deserving of the 2 year deal we gave Wright. LM - Rudi Skacel - As with Mills, he wanted to leave, but if he hadn't been messed around playing LB I reckon he'd have stayed and tore L1 a new one. ST - Papa Waigo - Apparently wages/transfer fee was the stumbling block. ST - Marian Pahars - I know he was crocked, but would have been a great option off the bench on a pay as you play.
  24. Half of it isn't even entertainment, it's just silly. I still watch it because occasionally they produce a genuinely entertain and/or informing article.
