This is the likely scenario: Chelsea were on the look out for a new director of recruitment. They’ve pinpointed Shields who has a top reputation in England. Shields wants to go as it’s a big role with a major Champions League club. Both teams arrange compensation. I highly doubt this is some player-esque situation where he’s kicked up a fuss to move away. He’s been headhunted.

If Chelsea have come in for him with that role, how can you blame him going for it?

This definitely isn’t happening but Rodgers would be an excellent appointment.

It’s a shame Bazunu is being criticised by sections of the fan base. He’s a promising keeper playing for a woefully underperforming side lacking confidence.

It’s a shame it hasn’t worked out with Ralph but we are going backwards.

I’m not saying we should get him back (we definitely shouldn’t) but he was getting results in the PL before being sacked. In fact, the Chelsea fight back was a brilliant performance - better than what we are serving up now. We actually beat our main promotion rival (Reading) in the Prem.

Cooper would fail here. I don’t rate him. I was a Ralph fan. He galvanised the fans and the players after two dreadful appointments and injected excitement into Southampton not seen since Koeman’s time. Based on Convict Colony’s summary above, and as much as I hate seeing people lose their jobs, the board has to take decisive action. This is a problem that appears unable to be resolved and is affecting morale on and off the pitch. Our biggest asset is a shadow of his former self despite Ralph largely turning him into the player he’s become, one of our new coaches left after a few weeks, and we’ve totally fallen apart since Villa with no sign of the situation changing. We are in total free fall.

I think AVB would be a good fit.

Ha! I make it 15 PL defeats since the start of Jan. very bleak.

We’re approaching a full calendar year of woeful performances. Based on last night, we are regressing if anything.

Lose to Everton and he’s gone IMO. Can’t see the new owners giving him the time he’s been afforded before.

Can’t stand playing Wolves. We’ve lost the last four Premier League games against them and only beaten them once since promotion. They’re the equivalent of Dion Dublin or Lukaku always scoring against us.

2-1 to Wolves.

If we stay up this season, imagine how good we are going to be in 2-3 years time when this team develops. Proper Championship Manager stuff.
