Harding is a very good player and one I like... but he's not 'fast as feck'

Andrew Surman Has Been Told He Can Leave.

Agree with all of this, however, watching him play he seems to redefine the word 'slow' maybe that was mainly because he played wide left where pace is more of a requirement but I'd worry the game might pass him by in the middle. However if it was possible I'd get him in like a shot he ticks all the boxes, young, a quality player at CCC level and has the right kind of attitude, Saints fan through and through which counts for something as well. -
what happens to the RB slot now ..?

Too similar to BT apparently..... yeah.... (Or am I confusing Drogba with Nonda... if so then we ducked a bullet, since he appears to have disappeared after a pretty bad injury) -

FWIW we need player for each position and from what I've seen of Semi he's done enough to b given the opportunity to compete with Calderon (IF we sign him) their different players anyway really, Calderon looks composed and seems an excellent paser (from the youtube clips admittedly) whereas Semi is lightning but at times a bit of a headless chicken. I certainly feel there is room for both in the squad and am happy with Mills covering for Harding. -
What we think we know...or do we!!

Since this thread has already gone off on a tangent I don't feel bad about saying 'I'd far rather have Pardew than Hughes' Hughes is more of a pragmatist and I much prefer Pards all out attack approach with proper wide men supported by overlapping fullbacks. Hughes might well have had more success than Pards but Pards has come close to being very successful with one of the best cup-finals I've seen. -
He certainly wasn't ****, he was class but his legs had gone. He would have been immense had we had a half decent box to box player alongside him (ie NOT viafara), but he was a luxury player and we were often left exposed because we didn't have someone good enough to cover for his weaknesses. I probably couldn't name 5 games where he was amazing but I reckon you'd struggle to name 5 games where he was '****' (if you were being honest that is).

Not to mention Oldhams 21 fouls to our 9. I accept that every team has the right to use all means within the rules of the game to geta result and that we have no god-given right to expect teams to come to us and play expansive, open football... however... There is no other way to describe the tactics that Oldham used on Tues, apart from cheating. From the first kick (literally when they kicked it straight into touch) to the last they exploited every opportunity to delay things, they engaged in 'persistent' foul play and only manged 2 bookings (the second of which only happened because the crowd booed for an age for that sub timewasting, giving the ref no choice) how many times did they line up one thrower, then he'd drop the ball and someone else took it, same goes for their free kicks. In short the ref could well have been justified in dishing out a lot more cards and if he'd stamped down on it early (by booking the keeper for instance who milked every goal kick) then the game might have gone our way... Oh and a blatant pen at the end also. Yes we could have played better but I can't be too critical of the players and manager because had Oldham not been allowed to get away with some of the most cynical play it's been my misfortune to witness, we would have gotten the right result. Oh and trust 'Flahavan' to make 3 or 4 top class saves as well...

Yeovil (0) v (1) Saints,post match chat...

I'm ******* lovin it... So what was the final lineup? 2 wingers in the centre, 3 strikers up top and another striker at right back... Whoever said fortune favours the knew what they were talking about. Kudos to Pards methinks!!! -
something, something, George Burley!! something, something, George Burly!!! Something, something, something, slit wrists, hate, rage, rant, paddy, something, something something... That about the gist of it?

You're seriously suggesting that bottom end of the Scottish Prem is of a lower standard than the conference? REALLY? I'd say that his record sounds pretty good and he could be a world beater and Falkirk could still be where they are if the rest of the players were crap. In Pards we trust, if we get him I will watch with interest.

Media Student > curmudgeonly professional miserablist who when faced with any kind of silver lining goes in search of the dark cloud... All IMHO obviously (one that is probably shared by many right thinking people on here). Did you REALLY expect us to do all our deals by now? The quality of player we 'need' are likely to have other options to consider and I would expect them to be interesting CCC teams as well as other top League 1 teams. So TRY (really, really hard) to be patient and you MAY even be pleasantly surprised... if it's possible for you find anything 'pleasant' that is.

Not only is the 6th of Jan but the country is at a virtual standstill with Hampshire at the epicentre... I'm not sure a player or his agent are going to brave the elements to come and negotiate. No surprise it's the usual 'glass is not only half empty but has a crack in it and it's leaking out faster' poster

Why Markus Liebherr should buy Portsmouth Football Club

I was always in the portshampton camp myself... we ate southmouth and we ate southmouth... we are the southmouth... aters... -
yeah good point, before he set up the goal was what I meant but in my haste got it all wrong.... much like the lino Anyone know where/when I can see highlights?
-
He definitely was offside and the lino definitely flagged, whether he was flagging for another infringement and played an advantage? It was still a **** piece of officiating
-
Talking of ****ty decisions, was I only one who saw the linesman by the Itchen flag Holt for being offside, then putting his flag down when he scored?

Kev is a top bloke and I took his name for my username because the ZDS cup final was my first ever Saints game. I lived opposite him for a brief while after I graduated and had a kickabout in the park with him. We were invited along to his 40th as well. Him and his wife are lovely people and welcomed me and my housemates to the neighbourhood with open arms. Gutted to hear about his illness and I'd be happy to donate money to repay their hospitality in some small way. Incidentally, properly p1ssed off to hear about the PFA's derisory offer, Kev is a player from an age where the players weren't that far removed from the fans and had to find a job after retiring from the game.

It's not often this happens but I'm with you on Holmes, a tidy player and is good on the ball but often injured and just not in any way quick, I do think he has the skills to beat a man he just can't accelerate away from them. I would love us to sign a pacey wide man to give us pace down both flanks and to balance out our play. Would really like a new RB as well and your comment re Pele was a good one, he was a good holding CM, good on the ball and strong (think he's another 6t+er as well).... just don't let him anywhere near our penalty area....

It seems that no matter how well we are doing saints 'supporters' have to have a particular hate figure, Telfer, Wright and now Lancashire. The abuse dished out to Telfer and Wright (much of it unwarranted) was bad enough but they are older more experienced and have thicker skin. To dish out this much stick to a young player who was dropped in at the deep end is nothing short of disgraceful. Slagging him off is hardly going to improve his performances is it? I hope he gets a run of games at Grimsby, that their fans are more patient and understanding than ours and that he comes back a better players. Unlike, it seems, many on here I really want all of our academy graduates to succeed as opposed to gleefully anticipating their failure.

Always hated playing Blackburn for that reason, he seemed to be unbeatable against us. I'd go with Schmeichel.... with Niemi a close second. FACT (although Schwarzer also seemed to have a good game against us)
-
that's one HELL of a growth spurt over the summer.... maybe they planted him in baby bio?
-
We've got another youngster with a double barrelled surname as well, saw his name in the U18 write up the other day... but can't be arsed to look it up. 6 players in 2 they are

With a fully fit side who would you pick/formation?

Yesterdays team and lineup for me. -
Ok I will say it. Papa was god awful
(not THE) Kevin Moore replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
Regardless, he's got to be in that position to force the own goal. Bugs me that because it's given as an OG that suddenly he is deprived of any credit. His pace got him into a dangerous position, the defender panicked and put through his own net. The BBC website has it down as Papa's goal BTW. Oh and in all seriousness if Papa forces a few more own goals but doesn't score at all, then he's still making a valuable contribution to the team.
