...and I think that was the point she was making. If you want to turn stats against someone, you can easily find a way. Pochettino just isn't under that level of scrutiny...yet. It would have been a better article without the slightly bitter tone. But ultimately, Saints have the perfect setup at the moment, and perfect environment to thrive and experiment (without press/fans criticism/pressure). Mourinho hinted it the other week. Pochettino would be crazy to leave, and I bet he knows it!

I think he's fantastic. The team feels much calmer/in control when he's playing (although he's had a quiet recent couple of games), and I think that's down to his composure, technique and vision. Given how young he is, they are pretty amazing qualities to be showing already. With success rate of recent youth players coming into the squad, compared to the purchased players with time needed to adjust, this youth first policy is going to be mighty successful for the Saints. Compare to AVB at Spurs. We'll unlikely be in a position where we need to embed a whole new team of expensive stars from scratch.

They really do need to it shake up. They come across as old fashioned, and establishment. Missing out on the fun of football. Bit like Barry really.

They're fighting back. This team has shed loads of character...

Ha! Don't be such a wimp! Saints looking good...

Yeah, he's got no previous track record of ruthless sacking when people don't live up to his high expectations.

As it stands, do we have a better team than ENGLAND?

The thing I noticed most about the game (aside from the odd position jay found himself in) was how little they tackled for the ball. I'm used to seeing Saints go for the ball a lot, but nada from England defence or midfield. I'm curious to see comparative stats on it. Also, the defence was so slow and laboured. Watching the game with a group of English non Saints supporters, they immediately jump on Jay as being out of his depth. But being able to watch him throughout the game (orange boots came in handy when you're up in the rafters) he was constantly having to fill back and in a midfield position. Not who he is at all. But because most English don't know enough about him yet, they weren't able to understand that and wrote him off immediately. Sounds like Roy has more perspective, and if Jay keeps club form up, he'll get another chance I think. In a way, easier for Adam as he can make his own chances, rather than be reliant on a great through ball. -
I think he means a home game rather than away. If you pick a game against a lower table team, you're pretty much guaranteed to get a ticket as most don't sell out.

Bumping this thread. We're not there yet, but Cortese true to his word up till now... I'm trying to find the first video interview Cortese did when he joined Saints. I remember being really impressed. It was taken with him sitting in the stands I think. Anywhere know where to find it?

[quote=John Boy Saint;1807389 But then we have big Vic this season, and his Ninja buddy alongside him, I think the mere thought of having to get round a brick outhouse and a combative clinical tackler they will have something else to think about. Ninja buddy = Schneiderlin ?? Haha, brilliant. Loving your work John Boy.

I found that interesting. Thanks for posting.

I had a similar thought after the last England game. They look so SLOW now I'm used to Saints style. I kept shouting at the screen "c'mon, chase him down!" But nothing happened. (Maybe they didn't hear me). I think Pochettino has destroyed my enjoyment of watching any other team except for Saints now. Particularly after Saturdays performance. It's a hard life.

That and more. Cheers Nicola!

Batman's summaries are much better!

Makes sense, but even better if that came from the youth team. Anyone seen recent youth games to spot any new progress on talent? Just watched the latest 'our journey' update on YouTube, and reminded of the Ox-chamberlain aggression. But I get the sense the English upcoming stars still don't have the same vision or quick thinking as you'd buy in Europe. Is that changing under Pochettino influence?

They probably read on here that they're plastic and think better of it

Hey secret site agent, thanks for the advice, have been lurking for a few years. Love it (keep coming back), but a pretty odd vibe sometimes. The good stuff and people outweighs the bad love saints! love Cortese, love Pochettino. We're so lucky.

Ma'am I'd post more, cos I'm obsessed with saints, but this board isn't too welcoming (apart from your nice message).

You could read Barry's posts?

Really? Isn't that kind of judgemental? Isn't the fact that he's chosen to support Southampton when he's thousands of miles away kind of cool? Particularly as it was during time when we weren't successful? Like, little old Southampton has got an important place in the world. Doesn't that excite you? I say embrace this kind of support, rather than put it down as being inferior to your own. Anyone who loves Saints FC is kinda cool with me.

Claridge has always been complimentary about Saints since our league one days. Fair play to him, he spotted something happening.

?? Loser.

Hi CB Fry, I'm not specifically referencing the article, I'm referencing my 20 odd years watching England and constantly feeling exasperated by the build them up, knock them down attitude. The Mail article is an odd mix of the two. I can't see how anyone, with England best interests at heart, could find anything negative to say about Rickie's success. Yet they're already find headlines like: Do Hodgson's hopes really rest on one-time beetroot bottler Lambert from Kirkby? Do you really not find that headline offensive to Rickie's ability?

Went to school with Chris Nicholl's daughter. Went round their house once for a birthday party. Don't remember much except beige was a dominant colour.
