Problem with that is that Saints say goodbye to any transfer fee. I've said before, but players have far too much power.

Sky Sources: New 5 Year Contract offered to Jay Rodriguez
KingdomCome replied to Colinjb's topic in The Saints
Do we really need a post about a duplicate post about a duplicate thread? On a side note, not sure what to make of the news. Interesting to see if he signs it, but someone is talking and they will definitely have their motives. -
It does seem we won't meet a consensus. There is of course no obligation to sell if the club don't want to , but they may then be left with a player who is not playing for the club. Bit of a rock and hard place, but do you take the transfer fee now or pay his wages for a few years and lose him for nothing. With the amount of money in the game, the club's hand is a little forced. Obligation? no, commercial pressure? yes. If Shaw didn't want to leave, we wouldn't have sold. Shaw did want to leave so we sold him for anywhere between £27m and £35m depending on whose bullship you believe. So you have the fact that a player wanted to leave has changed the price...from not for any amount to whatever we sold him for. The more the player acts out, the more it affects it (I'm thinking specifically about Osvaldo). I don't expect you'll agree, but like you say, we'll have to agree to disagree.
-
Just because their price is high doesn't mean it is unaffected by their wish to leave. Of course, if a player is dead set against leaving, very little will entice them away. But if they make it clear that they wish to leave, the selling club is in a much poorer negotiating position.

I feel so foolish now *awaits inevitable Fonte strike threat*
-
I didn't say that. The fact he wanted to go was a factor in his price though. Along with many others. Age, length of contract left, contribution to the team, potential contribution to the buying team, etc etc. Considered together means £4m is reasonable for Rickie but not Fonte
-
The cost of a player inevitably includes the factor of how much he wants to go. Fonte has shown no signs of wanting to go to Cardiff.
-
No. Ridiculous offer.

I've got a similarly extensive knowledge and by my calculations he scores, on average, 6 goals per minute. Granted it's not the premier league but if he can continue this form I am v.excited.
-
Bet he feels like a right plum:rolleyes:
-
Couple of factors: - They are going to bigger/better clubs. There will be among a better class of player, so they will not be as good comparatively. - Football is a team game, take one player out of a well defined and drilled team, he might not be the same player. I agree, suggesting they will fall flat on their face and are suddenly incapable buffoons is a bit over the top, but I don't think many think that.
-
Sadly, no. Not for Saints.

Koeman talked about speaking to the experienced and important players during his press conference. Mentioned Fonte and Davis. Presume from that that one of them will get the captaincy.

Koeman's first Southampton press conference 11/7/14

I took it that he was saying that table position is not what he is aiming for. He is looking to continue the progress and keep Saints playing good football. -

Not tweeting = fake account? I've never tweeted but I follow Koeman. You're making me question my very existence. -
Maybe he is trying to convey a mood paragraphs Wistful Like a poem contemplative reflection failing to do so refrigerator

To be fair, for a business, equity can be (and has no doubt proven to be in this case) much more expensive than debt. Converting loans to equity is far from writing off. If the club were likely to increase in value, it makes financial sense for the creditor to convert loans to equity. Obviously that means the Liebherrs felt the club would increase in value due to their continued support, but it was a decision made on hard financials, not emotional attachment. Can't agree more about ML being the perfect owner though.

Smarmy? - Yes Bull****? - Definitely Pudlians wishing him well and getting 'holier than thou' at annoyance at Lovren? - Abso-fúcking-lutely

Quote from Suarez: "It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city. "But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters. "I hope you can all understand why I have made this decision. This club did all they could to get me to stay, but playing and living in Spain, where my wife's family live, is a lifelong dream and ambition. I believe now the timing is right. "I wish Brendan Rodgers and the team well for the future. The club is in great hands and I'm sure will be successful again next season. "I am very proud I have played my part in helping to return Liverpool to the elite of the Premier League and in particular back into the Champions League. "Thank you again for some great moments and memories. You'll Never Walk Alone." Take note Lovren...that is how you leave a club.

Adam is the first human so technically he doesn't have a father.

Agree with this, there are worse players to lose. Maybe not in terms of quality but in terms of ability to replace. Bit of an odd choice for Morgan though...
-
He really started to show a bit of class before being hacked down by Wes Brown last season. I think that this could be the ideal time to establish himself, with a more mobile striker he could create a formidable pairing. Just hope that Koeman gives him a decent chance, he might need time to create the understanding with a new striker.

Can't see why anyone could be against this. Sadly few signatories. The Liebherr Stand?
-
I probably wouldn't trust the figures too much then http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/15032014-201415-season-ticket-information-1489543.aspx Where's £585 coming from? Renewal of a concession in Itchen? bit odd.
