Perhaps as somebody else pointed out I could have been eloquent in my reply! I would point out that you cannot just look at the mechanics and processes of the EU and argue that it cannot be perceived as being dictatorial. Judge it on its actions. The one size fits all practice makes it dysfunctional and rigid and fosters a sense of dictatorship. The movement of people implemented against the will of many not least here gives a sense of the EU being dictatorial. For more pronounced evidence of dictatorship you need to look at the EU's involvement in Greek and Italian domestic politics. The EU effectively appointed Mario Monti's 2011 government where the cabinet was exclusively unelected. The Euro itself facilitates a sense of dictatorship enforcing perpetual austerity on many of its citizens. Previously a currency devaluation would have encouraged the green shoots of recovery. Donald Trump may make some unpalatable statements but he is right when it comes to Germany manipulating the value of the Euro to boost its own exports. The EU's response to referendums also encourages a belief that its will is being forced upon its people. So to is the fact that there is no accountability in its budget distribution. Dictatorship is a perception that is becoming the EU's biggest problem. It is encouraged by advocates of the EU like yourself who really need to work on their people skills.

Well Ii cannot argue with that then!

Are you just being clever and neglecting the core argument?

The concept that all 27 countries have to agree to something for it to be implemented is intrinsically democratically dysfunctional. The democratically elected European parliament is diluted every election by protest parties in other countries like UKIP further undermines its integrity. The most powerful people in the EU are all unelected. We are now told that Russia intervened to facilitate a leave vote. Who exactly Shurlock is thick?

I would argue that Oriel is better than Wanyama, that Pelle was prone to goal droughts. I concede that we miss Mane. It would be a close game.

I am not sure that you or others quite grasped the 'immigration' argument. Most would recognise the valuable contribution that migration makes to our society but the word 'unlimited' was what we disliked. We also recognised that there is a fundamental flaw in the EU 'freedom of movement' right. When wage levels were all relatively aligned the system worked but as the former Eastern Block countries have joined an inbalance has developed. When the minimal wage in one market is £1.50 and the other is £7.50 then obviously there will be a shift in people from one to the other. When this is 'unlimited' then people rightfully have concerns, especially as wages become diluted, hospitals queues lengthen and houses fill up. The way the EU addressed these concerns demonstrated not only their stubbornness but also how absurdly inflexible and dysfunctional this organisation is. The EU is flawed and inflexible.

How very sad too young. RIP. -
It may have caused economically uncertainty but the good economic news keeps coming. I expect inflation will rise and their may be an upheaval when we do trigger clause 50 but the more the commission behave like some sort of sinister religious cult scheming to punish somebody who dares leave I think it is great that we are out.

I think we were decimated by injuries last year and you will see a different side this year. We have an exciting young side that will be going in the right direction.

I think that we came out of the bottom three for the first time that season after the Wimbledon game. I think it was Charlton who had to win on the last game of the season but Sheff Weds beat them 1-0.

Ten Years of Saints Web... November 2016

I would like to thank all those who have put in the time and effort to make the site work. From a professional standpoint I would confess that I am probably 5% less effective at my work! -
There will and already has been lots of 'substitution'. UK agricultural is more competitive than it has been for a few years and the supermarkets make decisions ruthlessly based on price - even more so now that Lidl and Aldi have taken share from them. Farmers rotate their crops every year and it takes no real extra investment. Most people want cheap food and that is why Lidl and Aldi have taken share. Consumption habits will shift. I apologise but I cannot resist pointing out that EU imported beer brands like Heineken will be more expensive and will lose out to British brewed beers.

It is quite straight forward for if the £ is drops then Mr Tesco sources his Bacon from the UK not Holland or Denmark, his beef from the UK not Ireland etc etc and I would still think that most food is not manufactured it is reared or grown and if it is processed then factories around Europe will be sourcing from us now because of the favourable exchange rate. It is not a question of people reverting back to eating seasonal fruit and veg, more a question of more people eating seasonal fruit and veg because it is cheaper.
-
I think it is great that all these supermarkets will now be sourcing their products where they can domestically. That is good news for the economy. Countries like Greece and Spain must be a bit miffed they joined the Euro and will be in perpetual poverty for years to come unable to change their exchange rates. Enforced austerity from the EU.

Agreed, defies all the stereotypes. Proud he is a Saint.

My position would be that if I am having a dinner party in my nice house I will need to know who is coming and how many. How can I cater for them otherwise?

Good point.
