Can we finish higher than eighth in the 2017-18 season?

more than 46 points = success more than 17 home goals = success 1 win over the top 6 sides = success getting more points than AFCB = success not needing to listen to Puel speak **** = success MaPe will deliver, but might take time to recover this squad from the physiological damage Puel and Black have caused.... That cant be underestimated. -

You're consistently right to be fair - don't let the haters get you down. -

TBF you had his cards marked very early doors - for some reason talent spotting (or lack of) on here is frowned upon rather than embraced. You should now be the go-to guy for players and manager reviews but of course those wrong about Puel will still insist they know best. Keep up the good work mate -

Ibe has just turned 21....you wouldn't write off a young player after just 1 season? -

7th (Everton) are adding nicely to the squad and have a decent manager in Koeman, likewise AFCB (9th) have added nicely but might struggle to keep there better players. Everton will struggle to juggle Europa + league and I fully expect them to be circa 20 points below last season giving us a real opportunity to take back 7th. -

Spurs doing what they do best - giving the bird to teams (above them in food chain) wanting to sign there best players. Just slapped a £200m price tag on Kane.... -

A number of our fans have PTSD from our league 1 visit. They are also stuck on 2002 income and player values. Its a small but vocal minority thankfully Its either the southampton way or Pompey way.... No in-between for some -

Im reliably told that Ake is costing £10m with multiple add ons. Defoe is getting £1.5m sign on and 45k a week. Add those two to Asmir Begović and they've had a decent summer so far (on paper) Be interesting to see if they can somehow keep hold of there better players.... We all know clubs have to sell to the top 7 -
I'm just surprised dickhead passes the swear filters...

Sky Sports - No 'top' players leaving Southampton this summer.

This! We saw from the latest financials that we receive way way way less than the 'reported' figures. The fact we have sold the likes of Mane, Pelle, Wanyama, Fonte, Morgan, Clyne, Shaw, Lallana, Lovren, Chambers and replaced with the likes of Forster, Clasie, Hojberg, Pied, Boufal, Tadic, Long and Redmond and its (reportedly) cost us money is all the evidence you need that selling your best players to league rivals is not a long term strategy or sensible. -
That's right, i was in prison and they only allow positive posts from the slammer. My posts about Mane saying "be patient" and "hes absolutely class" were only for the benefit of the screws
-
Tbf i rarely write off players or managers early on and im hoping both Boufal and Hojberg prove me wrong. In fact my only early write offs were Ramirez and Puel (& Black) so maybe i do have a skill for talent spotting.
-
Some of us aren't dealing with the daily struggles of PTSD bought on by our relegation to league 1. If thinking we could be better at flexing our muscles and occasionally taking the top players from Burnley, AFCB, Swansea, Hull makes me stupid and delusional then yes im both.
-
That's right... Just the loose change like 50-60m difference. Or do you also add incoming wages not outgoing as that's what SFC like to do? Im not encouraging a "Pompey approach" of spend spend spend, just feel if proven premiership quality is available we should be flexing our food chain muscles once in a while. Weve spent money i dont doubt that but we've wasted alot as weve spent alot on gambles (not premiership proven) - Juanmi, Ramirez, Osvaldo, Mayuka, Forren, Gardos, Clasie, Cuco, Gazzaniga, Hojberg, Boufal too. Thats nearly 100m down the crapper
-
Why are we still so obsessed with penny pinching? We have sold players for 230m last 3 summers and received 150m from the premiership for last season alone. If we are serious about our ambitions we need to start spending some money. Buy cheap buy twice!!!

Definitely mate, definitely
