  1. i am going to defend Salisu a bit here... from the angles i saw, i think he believed that if he did get a head on it, it was going go more backward than up - didnt want to risk looping it into the back of the net over McCarthy. McCarthy HAS to communicate there. Be Vocal!!! Don't they drill that into goalkeepers from U9 up? He is quiet as a church mouse.
  2. And to pile on, our offense is rudderless. Has been since the departure of Tadic. we have no one directing or leading our offense. Our one goal, while nicely taken, was gifted to us.
  3. S. Armstrong and Tella should have come on in the 60th minute.
  4. If JWP is sold, it will be like selling the soul of the club. it would be one thing if he was making a stink to go, ie : Lallana, but he isn't.
  5. i am with you, but for better or worse, the club are going to target players they think they can sell for more money 3 to 4 years from now. Delaney is not that. on a pure football level, i think he is exactly what we need NOW and could shore up our defensive midfield. and then we still need : a £8m LCB, minimally, but think we should be more ambitious and get a £20m RCB
  6. in regards to the match last night, we could have used a lot more 1-0 victories last season instead of our usual 1-3 losses. Defense is where we really need to get better (that is assuming we buy an additional striker to freshen up our striker roster with Ings being gone)
  7. 20% of £10m = £2m the clause is for 20% for any fee above the £20m Ings was sold for by Liverpool
  8. he may have wanted it, but was anyone offering it? With that dead end, it became about the money, which i don't begrudge him. You want Danny for one more year + £0m? OR you want £30m and at least a fighting chance to bring in some quality to replace him?
  9. https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/08/02/palace-delaney/ not exactly young, but proven.
  10. I understand where you are coming from - reasonable people, with their heart in the right place, can disagree whether kneeling is pointless or unhelpful. I tend to believe a weekly reminder is helpful. You think differently, and that is fine. Whether it is or isn't, those brief 15 seconds of the match day certainly don't inconvenience the average supporter over the course of 2 hours, so it hardly seems worth arguing over.
  11. I am fine with it. If a 15 second delay before kickoff while a single phrase is being uttered gets you all raging, you might want to look inward.
  12. Do those clubs want him? I can see how this plays out... 01) Ings waits for love unrequited... season starts - no deal 02) Ings plays all season with Saints, completes his contract 03) he leaves in May 2022 on free the only positive of this would be maybe in a WC year he is highly motivated to prove his value to country (not to mention his unconvinced suitors), and scores 25 goals. Yay, Saints stay up! The negative obviously would be we lose him for nothing while he increases his value substantially over the 21-22 season.
  13. Konate (£35m) has been the most expensive signing of the summer so far. For a price that would be a record signing for 10 of the teams in the league. .....and Liverpool supporters can barely muster a collective yawn. He is likely CB back up.
  14. was looking for the scar on his shin he received from Mark Noble man, time flies - that was 4 years ago next month.
  15. plus, his goal celebrations were pure joy.
  16. yeah, Villa is a wild card if/when they get their Grealish money. Smaller clubs are holding out for the drunken sailor who just got paid.
  17. the smart, unemotional choice is to sell Ings and Vestergaard now. say you get 40m for them. promote Salisu to Vestie's spot. with that money.. you go get an additional striker (won't be easy to find someone with Ing's quality, but we are dealing with the hand we're dealt.) (20m) an additional attacking midfielder, creative type (will be limited by funds, players available) (15m) try to find a diamond in the rough CB as backup (5m type) wont be easy, but that is the path.
  18. considering inflation, it's shocking that that our biggest yearly spend happened 7 years ago. 2014/15 (Spent £70m) i would reckon every other PL club's has occurred within at the last 3 years.
  19. well I think one this is pretty clear - the Vestergaard/Bednarek/Stephens thing isn't working. giving up 60 or more every season for the last 3 seasons.
  20. GK/CB starters 20-21 | 65* GA Forster/McCarthy - Vestergaard / Stephens / Bednarek 19-20 | 60 GA McCarthy - Vestergaard / Stephens / Bednarek 18-19 | 65 GA McCarthy - Vestergaard / Yoshida / Stephens / Bednarek 17-18 | 56 GA Forster/McCarthy - Hoedt / Stephens / Yoshida 16-17 | 48 GA Forster - VVD (1/2) / Fonte (1/2) /Stephens / Yoshida 15-16 | 41 GA Forster/Stekelenburg - Fonte / VVD 14-15 | 33 GA Forster - Fonte / Alderweireld
  21. i swear to god, if I hear "Southampton looking the better side" one more time from an announcer this season, I am going to put a knife thru my head.
  22. i hate to be so optimistic, but i think 12th place is still in play.. Wolves last 3 are Spurs, Everton, United. If Ings is on the pitch, we could challenge. How crazy would it be to end up in 12th again this year after everything that has happened this season.
  23. Che has one less league goal this season than Sadio Mane with roughly the same minutes. I guess we finally found Mane's replacement. 🙂
  24. the penalty - not going to blame Redmond for Zaha's cynical play. I wish referees were schooled to look out for this kind of stuff. Hell, even VAR allowed it after reviewing the video. The handball ruling has language like "arm/hand in an unnatural position". Why can't they apply the same for an offensive player looking for a foul? Zaha's leg was definitely extended in "unnatural position".
  25. I don't get what you all are talking about... I am rooting for a full-on Burnley win tonight. If you concerned about how it looks - dropping to 17th place, maybe win the next 4 matches to fix that.
