  1. My apologies, you are right. I thought it was carrying on from the What Is Wrong With America thread and hadn’t noticed the new thread name. D’oh!
  2. I seem to remember you using the same argument relating to the lack of equality in pay for women. You find one or two examples to support your world view and that’s you done, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. You seem to have missed the countless interviews with black people recounting their experiences with racial equality. You ignored the likes of Raheem Stirling when he said that racism was still a problem in football. You seem to have filtered out the hundreds of thousands of black people marching in support of BLM. As white people we have no idea what it is like to face racial inequality on a daily basis, but the very least we can do is to listen to those who do experience it and do something to help them stop it, even if it means voting against the Tory party whose leader is a self declared racist. Do you realise how condescending white people sound when they try and tell black people that the problem really isn’t that big? Perhaps the black people you know who play this down should take you along to a BLM meeting so that you can all hear about the experiences of people who have to put up with this sh*t on a regular basis?
  3. I see the tactic of deflection is once again in full swing, something that the right use a lot. Instead of dealing with the issue they create a tangent that has little to do with the main issue so that they can deflect from that issue and also detract from its importance. The Tory Party do it with monotonous regularity as do their supporters on social media. It seems to be the rule now, down answer the question just create your own. Modern day slavery has little to do with what is happening in the BLM protests. If the usual suspects want to deal with that, why not create a new thread for it? For some here the issues of racial inequality do not seem to exist on the scales that they clearly do. Instead of getting wound up about people kneeling down, perhaps give more thought to why they are doing it in the first place.
  4. The Kick Racism Out Of Sport campaign was launched in 1993. 27 years later and it is still a problem. No wonder the frustrations have boiled over.
  5. Given the number of black players here it is good to see all players supporting the campaign. Hopefully it will also give a boost to the Kick It Out campaign and also be a kick in the teeth to the morons who still think it is ok to absurd black players at football matches.
  6. Yeah Whelk. It’s only taken me 14 years!
  7. People who prefix everything with “super” as in super excited, super happy.

So you don’t think that Cummings being an elitist, self serving arrogant hypocrite has got anything to do with it?
  9. One Tory with a backbone and a moral compass.

Exactly. Johnson is nothing without Cummings so they are both happy to stick two fingers up to the rest of us and carry on. The arrogance is outstanding. On the plus side, Johnson has shown what a gutless, weak and incompetent leader he is so hopefully all those who thought it was a good idea to “lend” him their votes won’t make that mistake again.
  12. I guess the question we should be asking today is who is actually running the country, Boris Johnson or Dominic Cummings?

It really isn’t Duckie. I’m no expert but those who are are saying that a second wave has the potential to kill many more than the first wave. Governments are taking it seriously because it is a very serious outbreak. Only flat earthers can pretend that there has been an overreaction. If you really do believe that it isn’t a problem perhaps you should volunteer to help out in a care home.

    Coronavirus

Yet that is exactly what he did. And despite being told not to shake hands with people and to keep a social distance, Boris Johnson actually shook hands with people infected with the virus. Stupid is as stupid does. Without a shadow of a doubt, hundreds, maybe thousands of lives could have been saved if we locked down sooner and more efficiently. As it is, lives were still saved when we did eventually lock down. Governments don’t risk economic disaster on a whim. There is a reason most of the planet shut down and by doing so it has helped contain a virus that still has the potential to kill millions.
  15. Says it all. As for the childish name calling towards Kat, poor Marcus must be spinning in his grave. At the outbreak of the pandemic we were told that it was putting things like sport into perspective and yet here we are again, slagging off people we have never met for intentions that we don’t know if they have or not and believing any old tat written in a newspaper. Clearly the whole economy is in a mess and Southampton FC will not be alone is struggling to adjust to whatever the new reality becomes.

It’s getting worse for Cummings and the Tories. No surprise that a weak and inexperienced front bench are backing him. If Johnson had one once if common sense or leadership he would sack him as his ego won’t allow him to resign. It has been funny watching the Americans having to deal with the inept and incompetent Trump. It isn’t so funny having to live with the same sh*t over here. We live in a country of nearly 70 million people and this is the best we can do?
  17. When in doubt, drag up Brexit. You know you are in trouble.

Nothing to see here. Dominic is above us normal plebs so the rules don’t apply to him. There will be calls for him to resign but of course he won’t, he is the power behind the throne.
  19. I don’t know about wetting myself about Starmer’s performance so far, but it makes a pleasant change to see someone with such a Prime Ministerial gravitas on the front bench at last. The fact that he so easily punctured Johnson’s usual winging it, bluster and waffle style came as no surprise. At last the opposition have someone who can paint a picture, hold it up and say to the electorate, this is what you voted for. This is your fault. Don’t make the same mistake in the next election. Starmer has only been in the job 5 minutes and already he looks more capable than the whole of the Tory front bench put together. Granted, he lacks charisma, but give me competence and authority over a circus clown when it comes to running the country any day.
  20. Game, set and match!
  21. I saw a picture of Steve Williams a few years ago and barely recognised him as he had put so much weight on. I remember Ron Davies being a big guy in his playing days and most of them used to be big drinkers and no one looked after their diet much in the 60s and 70s so there probably wasn’t much of a change for many of them when they stopped playing then.
  22. If Jose was so desperate to stay, why didn’t he sign the new contract? If Reed was so desperate to get rid of him, why did he offer him a new contract? If Jose was happy, why employ an agent who is know for playing hard ball. Where did the stories about the interest from Manchester United come from? Reed? I didn’t want Fonte to go, but I don’t believe for one minute that he was blameless in what transpired. The fact that he ended up at West Ham rather than a “big club” shows us what the real interest was behind the scene and even at West Ham Jose failed to live up to his post Euros hype.
  23. Indeed it isn’t Whelk. And I’m afraid that my days of noticing girls in marketing, or even Tescos for that matter, are long gone. Well, that’s not strictly true. I may occasionally notice, but my cardio- vascular problems mean that even wishful thinking fails to kick in (for self-preservation purposes).
  24. Yes Whelk, do tell. I’m intrigued!
  25. Got his timing wrong there!
