So I am currently sitting in a pub in Amsterdam and there is Championships League football on the tv. Most of the screens are showing the Liverpool match. More people cheered when Liverpool scored than when Ajax scored (on the small tv in the corner). WTF?

He is not the only manager who makes very late substitutions. I guess managers do it to waste time and disrupt the rhythm of the game if they are winning or hanging on for a draw. If you are chasing a game it makes more sense to bring someone on when they have enough time to have an effect on the game.

Not gone by Christmas then? Unusually optimistic for you!

If we are at it from the start I can see us getting something from the game but we really can’t afford to be half asleep for the first 20 minutes. Interesting to see how Sheffield United get on today.Thought they were dead certs to go straight back down but Wilder has done a cracking job so far.

I actually wanted to move on to the Miller case and her victim statement but so be it.

Don’t worry Egg. I am done now.

They may well be, and I know a few on the far left like that myself. But none of them are the least bit violet. Whilst they might go on marches and wave placards about, they wouldn’t dream of threatening people or getting involved in punch ups. From what I see those on the far right are far more disposed to using threats and violence to get their way. -
He must have been half decent to get into the Dutch national side but clearly went downhill rapidly. Perhaps, if he can sort his attitude out, he could eventually play at a higher level. But judging by his recent comments he still seems to think that his fall from grace has nothing to do with him.

So our Wesley has been saying that it was a mistake joining us. Yes Wes, you really should have stayed where you were.

I have just seen the front page of The Times. “Deliver Brexit Or Face Riots.” It certainly won’t be Remainers rioting will it? -
Threads being closed down that cover important, if unpleasant, topics. I appreciate that some posters can’t post without resorting to constant personal insults but the rules state that they should be dealt with by infractions or if it continues, banning. Censorship is not the way to go.

The issue we face is that the rhetoric used by powerful characters like Trump and Johnson’s gives licence to those prone to knee jerk reactionary behaviour to act out their frustrations in ways that go way beyond what is acceptable behaviour. You only have to look at the knuckle staggers who follow Tommy Robinson around to see what sort of people are sucked in by this crap. It will get far worse before it gets better. -

And in light of Johnson’s comments, let us not forgot what happened to Jo Cox. -
That guy who senior prosecutors still believe committed rape. The guy who was convicted in his first trial. The guy whose fiancés family put up a large sum of money for witnesses to come forward and which witnesses, the prosecution believe, were coached to provide evidence that changed the second trial. By hard done by I meant being charged for rape in the first place.

What isn’t there to discuss about the issue of consent? Rape and sexual assault is a major problem world wide. Getting a successful rape prosecution through the court is so difficult that many victims don’t even bother. It would be odd if it was not discussed. If men can’t agree on what constitutes “rape” we are never going to make the world safer for the victims. My point, as always, is that women are not fair game and the law needs to do more to protect them from sexual predators. If you that is odd or weird, that is your issue.
-
You raise a good point and there is no reason why we can’t discuss the issue about lying about a vasectomy. Why is the point I brought up weird and disturbing? It follows the truncated discussion about the Evans case. Given that a number thought that Evans was hard done by surely it was and is worth discussing the whole consent thing?

Yesterday in the Commons we saw the true side of Johnson at work. Not the bumbling amiable clown but a nasty piece of work without an ounce of empathy. Sadly a lot of people will vote for him simply because they believe he will take us out of the EU come what may, not matter what the collateral damage in the process. The next election will be a one issue vote and because of the strength of feeling about Brexit he might just pull it off. The trouble we will then be stuck with this dreadful man for the next five years and God only knows what mess he and the new Far right Tories will make of this country. -
I guess so. Sounds good. Perhaps he should change his name?

Of course it is. Just because some people don’t work at weekends it doesn’t mean the NHS shuts down over the weekend. I have been called in to see a consultant on a Sunday. There are still patients on wards. A & E carries on as usual. I guess you haven’t had much to do with the health system if that is your view? And who on earth is Jazz?

Avoided a potential banana skin. Not the best start but finished with a comprehensive win. Job done!

I was going to post this as an interesting post script on the Ched Evans thread, but as it has been closed I have started a new thread. A story about the Chanel Miller v Brock Turner rape case appeared on my news thread today. I won’t go into the full details but if you aren’t aware of the case, he was found guilty of rape having taken advantage of her when she was drunk. As a result of this case Californian law has now changed. If you are convicted of sexual penetration with a women who is either unconscious or incapacitated by alcohol you will get a minimum sentence of 3 years in prison.

It looks like he is going to tough it out. He is also saying that the court are wrong. 11 experienced judges against a serial liar....hmmmm -
I don’t work for the NHS but I share a part time job with 2 other people and we all get paid an hourly rate. I would imagine that they get paid pro rata too. A 4 day week sounds like a good idea but I doubt if many families could afford to lose a days pay, and companies are not going to give their staff a days pay for doing nothing.

The only was today will get better is for us to put 8 passed the Skates tonight.
