So you dont think that there is a possibility that he has changed his mind?
-
Really? I dont think the post was unreasonable. Lambert will never start an International and Lallana was a bit player in the WC and if he was going to be a shoe in you would think it would have been in Brazil. There is no reason not to feel optimistic as we have a decent manager on board and are clearly looking to build a decent squad. Unless of course you are a bed-wetter in which case the sky has fallen in and there is no point in living. Surely supporting a football club is all about hope over expectation. There are some serious no hopers on here which makes me wonder why they both.

Koeman's first Southampton press conference 11/7/14
sadoldgit replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
Or maybe there was another reason? Both situations were seemingly advanced before RK was appointed and he intimated as much. If their agents said they are off and there is nothing RK will say to change their minds what can you do? Interesting that the situations with Lovren and Morgan are different. -
It is, especially before anyone has kicked a football. We are all hoping that Koeman will continure to build on the success that Parderw, Adkins and Pochettino have contributed too in the last few years. We have a new manager and are clearly getting new players in over the next few weeks. If it all goes pear shaped so bet it and I am sure the negative posters will have a field day - but the point is we just dont know how things are going to go at the moment and things could be even better. No one is irreplaceable and Pochettino was only here for a relatively short time. All this getting dumped at the alter cr*p is very tiresome. We have a new bird now who could well turn out to be fitter than the last - time to move on!

I wanted Liverpool to win the league. And I wouldnt get too high and mighty about "tapping up." I would imagine it has been going on forever.
-
Yes, he and the coaching staff do. Yes, we did try and keep him an Spurs wanted him. So does that mean that Adkins and Pardews contributions were any less worthy? It is nice that you are so attached to Pochettino. I have a feeling that Koeman will prove to be a better manager but only time will tell.
-
As you say, it is all about opinion. Last year was fab but the promotion from the Championship, for me, was more enjoyable. More so because we weren't spending silly money on over inflated egos.
-
So what, it is not what you spend it os who you spend it on. Plenty of clubs spend big and it doesnt work. Pardew laid the foundations of where we ae now - not least from brining oin Rickie Lambert - I would put that signing down as one of the biggest factors in our success - Pochettino benefitted from the work he and Pardew did big time.
-
Yes, finishing 8th was truly wonderful but my point is we have other managers who have acheived things in the last 20 years (no matter what the squad cost Delldays - Pardew built the basic squad that helped Adkins and Pochettino no end) and I dont see why Pochettino gets all the plaudits. I would say Adkins achieved more.
-
Fonte isnt good enough IMO and may not be a guaranteed starter. Spiderman or Davis for me.
-
And yet Pochettino didnt come within a sniff of winning anything for us whereas Pardew won a cup and Adkins back to back promotions. Go figure.

Probably written by the club's PR person.

Koeman's first Southampton press conference 11/7/14

I think you will find that the decision lies with SFC and not Lovren. He will only go if the club decide to sell him. Remember Suarez last season? -
Who cares? They have gone. Time to move on and look forward.
-
Cool kit! Assuming we have a team to put out they will look pretty smart!

Not you specifically but the type of posts. You clearly are not convinced by the new Board (which I understand). What I dont understand is the need for constant posts (and it isnt just you) having a pop at them when we have just started to recruit and we dont know what the squad will look like come the start of the season. If it isnt to your liking, then great, lets have a debate about it. Thing is some people seem to have made their minds up before we know what we have. I am not a happy clapper but the negativity isnt much fun. I'll be as negative as the next person if there is a firesale, asset stripping and KL proves that she has no interest in the club and the Board turn out to be c*ap - but so far I cant see that they are doing anything wrong given the circumstances.

Is that a new swipe card machine invented to make us use our credit cards more often?

As you point out, this is a forum for discussion. What I am trying to say to you and some others who do the same thing is that it is very tiresome where you have certain posters with clear agendas sniping away day in day out. I can pretty much guess what you are going to say before I open a thread. I know you will say put you on ignore but you are everywhere! Guess what, we know we need strikers, we know we need to bulk up the squad. That is happening so lets talk about who comes in and who else we are being linked with and stop with the underlying agenda that the Board dont know what they are doing. To be totally honest you usually write as if they need to come on here to find out how they should be running the club and that you are the only one who sees the problems.

If the traget was CL football what was the timeframe? That wasnt part of the much heralded 5 year plan. And I thought Cortese had signed up to the self sustaining model? Or was that just up to the point where he realised the CL football was going to cost a great deal more money than SFC could realistically afford?
-
How well does Lovren speak English? Maybe something got lost in translation?
-
I dont get this get your business done early thing. Getting the right players on the right terms is what is important. Pardew was very shrewd in the market for us and that paid off big time. Since we have been in the Prem the signings havent always been so good. We cant afford to blow a lot of money on another Osvaldo. Koeman has a big task ahead and I would prefer he took his time and got it right than rush in and possibly make some mistakes.
-
Go back and reread your post. You talk of "urgency" as if the Board are not worried about bringing in players in time. You and I do not run the club. They do and although your posts often give the impression that they dont know what they are doing, I think that they probably do. Frankly I would rather wait and get the right players in for the club than get some panic buys in (like the centre half that didnt play, remember?). If the Board had come out and said we arent buying anyone and will rely on the youth policy I would back yu up 100%. They hve clearly indicated their intent by emplying Koeman and giving him money to spend on rebuilding which is curently happening. It might not be happening quickly enough for your urgent needs but I am sure we will start the season with a decent squad.
-
Aiming for CL football? Really? Maybe now we have some realsistic ambitions like winning a domestic cup (something Cortese wasnt interested in but the fans are) and qualifying for Europe. Pochettino was never interested in that so it is ironic that is what he will be doing next season. Realism, so where does that that sit? Realistic players will know a club like SFC are not going to break into the top 4 without changing their wage structure massively (and the transfer budget of course). Another dig at the people running the club. If they werent ambitious for the club we would have Steve Bruce instead of Ronald Koeman. As I keep saying to you, why dont you give them a chance and wait and see what happens and stop all this negative snipping? You hae absolutely NO idea what is going to happen. If it all goes pear shaped then you can give yourself a big slap on the back and tell us all you told us so!
-
It is not a question of not seeing the urgency. You seem to think that nothing is being done behind the scenes when very clearly it is. We are not the only club looking for quality players are sensible prices you know. You seem to have this negative agenda towards the Board. Would you still be posting countless times if Cortese were still here and the situation the same? Check the transfer talk in the media, there arent many Prem clubs who are not looking to sign players right now. It is a busy market place. The club will know who they want and at what price. The fact that we have only signed one player so far doesnt mean that they are sitting on their hands, but that seems wha you want to believe.
