  1. Cameron's obviously taking lessons from the Lib-Dems in as much as if you know that you're not going to win the election, you can promise whatever you like. I think that the political classes are over-estimating the public's interest in the EU. It'll be the economy that'll decide the next election - it usually is.
  2. The Royal Oak
  3. Not sure if this has been mentioned in any other thread but this guy is collecting messages to NA and intends to put them in a book and send them to him. Nearly 700 at the moment. Whether you agree with his removal or not, I think that a thank-you message would be in order. http://onenigeladkins.com/
  4. He'll certainly have no trouble getting another job and probably a good pay-off on condition that he doesn't talk to the media about why he was sacked.
  5. They have more than you might think... http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2013/jan/14/secret-papers-royals-veto-bills
  6. Think I managed 55 mph on the Totton by-pass this morning. I've also been known to frequent Pirate Bay for old movies.
  7. Little Jim loved Chemistry But, alas he is no more For what he thought was H2O Was H2SO4
  8. Just finished Dominion by CJ Sansom. Alternative history story based on Britain signing a peace treaty with Hitler in 1940. Churchill goes on the run and forms a resistance movement while Beaverbrook is head of a puppet government. Some interesting themes on how Britain could have divided between the Hitler admirers (Lloyd George, Mosley, The Daily Mail and sections of the aristocracy) and the opponents (Churchill, Bevin, MacMillan, Attlee and the unions.
  9. My trusty 6-year old Inspiron contracted a nasty virus and would not boot even in safe mode. I booted it from Ubuntu CD copied any files that I wanted to a stick and then installed Ubuntu instead of Windows. I've now got a faster startup and shutdown, faster operation, no viruses and longer battery life. Most common applications are available free, Open Office will handle MS Office documents and you have a Windows emulator if you really need it. Who needs Windows??
  10. I probably took your ticket as I had a casual "cash-in-hand" evening job there in the 70's. Very under-rated band. Excellent live act.
  11. If people want to dress up, why not? It's only your opinion which is no more or less valid than anyone else's. If you're that embarrassed, stay at home. I can't see a few Santa outfits changing anyone's perception of SFC or the city.
  12. I've got TV Anywhere working OK on 2 PCs. Can't get it to work with Chrome and hopefully they'll eventually bring out a Linux version.
  13. Nothing. He's in my Fantasy team at work and I'm running out of transfers.
  14. Been doing mine on and off for about 10 years. Managed to get back to the late 1700's on my dad's side and also on my maternal grandfathers side. One unfortunate fact is that I'm related by marriage to Pound family who ran the big marine salvage yard on Pikey Island.

What was Buzz Aldrin doing at the top of your stairs?

    Moon landings

40 years ago today Apollo 17 landed on the moon. I was fascinated by the Apollo programme but, apparently, the US public got tired of it and the plug was pulled. I big opportunity missed.
  17. Should be up to the individual establishment.
  18. Died at his home in Selsey aged 89. A fascinating man with an in-depth knowledge of his subject and could impart that knowledge with interest and enthusiasm.
  19. I'm sure that, once Harry does a few transfer deals, his "income" will increase dramatically (probably without the knowledge of HMRC).
  20. To add a few more: Shearer's hat-trick on his debut against the Arse. Beating Coventry 8-2 in '84 ( A young Stuart Pearce at left-back for them). The '84 semi-final at Highbury (not a good day). Hearing Mark Wright's leg break at White Hart Lane in the '86 semi against Liverpool. Dellhurst - seeing Clapham Junction packed with Saints fans and coming out of South Norwood station to a sea of red and white.
  21. 20 years ago John major said that the press were "drinking in the last-chance saloon". Not got any better have they? Self-regulation via the PCC has been a joke. Any regulatory body needs to be independent of the press and of government, but it should have judicial powers, not through Ofcom but by a senior Judge (or a small panel of Judges).
  22. When he announced the Leveson inquiry, Cameron said that he would implement all it's recommendations unless they were "bonkers". Then again, he also said, before the last election, that "there will be no top-down re-organisation of the NHS". Telling the truth isn't one of his strong points (I suppose that's why he's in politics.
  23. The Albion Band and the big canvas pocket thing they carried round to throw your coins in.
  24. Spotted a few continuity errors. A couple of episodes ago the daughter was walking into college with her boyfriend and the camera was alternating between front and rear views. When the scene was shot from the front, the weather was bright and sunny but, when seen from behind, it was dull and cloudy.
  25. Pete King in Salem St Shirley. Honest bloke (also an SFC season ticket holder).
