  1. Frankie Bennett scoring against Chelsea.
  2. Goodfellas
  3. It's really an age thing isn't it. I saw my first game at The Dell when Derek Reeves was our centre-forward. Still holds the record for number of League goals in one season (39). I grew up watching Paine, Chivers, Davies etc and I think that the players that you admire when you're growing up remain your heroes in later life. Matt Le Tiss is certainly up there among that lot but it's all very subjective. How do you judge the greatest player? Goals scored? Overall contribution to the team? Paine wasn't a prolific scorer but I remember Ron Davies saying that Paine could not only cross the ball right onto his forehead but he even made sure that the laces were facing away from him. Anyone who ever headed one of the old leather footballs (especially if it had absorbed a few pints of rainwater) will appreciate that.
  4. Not had any problems with mine running 2 wireless connections. Also ran an ethernet cable from the router to my TV and used DNLA software to use my PC as a media server.
  5. I'm also on Virgin in SO16 and have just been doubled to 60Mb. Haven't done a test since I've been on 60 but when I was on 30Mb, it was usually 25+. I find that it slows down a bit at peak times but generally pretty good and very reliable. Customer service can vary greatly depending on who you happen to speak to. Some of them are very knowledgeable but others appear to be just reading from a script.
  6. Hartlepool scored 2 goals yesterday. The scorers were Hartley and Poole (although Poole scored first).
  7. 1st 6 months are boring. They're messy at both ends. From then on it's hard work but worth it. Fascinating watching them develop and learn. Mine was brought up the right way. Saints reserves games at The Dell when he was about 6 or 7 then a Season Ticket in the Junior Saints. He's now 26 and goes to most games home and away.
  8. Lee Todd David Lee
  9. When he first signed, I was took my nipper out to Staplewood to watch the training and was interviewed by a Swedish journalist who later sent me the article when it was published (it was all in Swedish but I managed to get it translated). There was a lot of interest in Sweden regarding their players in the Premier League and this bloke spent the whole season watching games they played in and sending back reports. Not a bad job.
  10. Well, if 11 out of 27 are net contributors, that must mean that the other 16 are net beneficiaries.
  11. My apologies.
  12. 11 out of the 27 states are net contributors.
  13. I think that my maths is better than yours as is my English. I said that Germany, Italy and France pay higher net contributions than the UK so how did you interpret that to mean we pay more than Germany.
  14. Our net contribution is approx 50 billion Euros. 6 other states have higher net payments than the UK including Germany, France and Italy. As a percentage of our Gross National Income, we pay the least of all countries.
  15. Cameron's obviously taking lessons from the Lib-Dems in as much as if you know that you're not going to win the election, you can promise whatever you like. I think that the political classes are over-estimating the public's interest in the EU. It'll be the economy that'll decide the next election - it usually is.
  16. The Royal Oak
  17. Not sure if this has been mentioned in any other thread but this guy is collecting messages to NA and intends to put them in a book and send them to him. Nearly 700 at the moment. Whether you agree with his removal or not, I think that a thank-you message would be in order. http://onenigeladkins.com/
  18. He'll certainly have no trouble getting another job and probably a good pay-off on condition that he doesn't talk to the media about why he was sacked.
  19. They have more than you might think... http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2013/jan/14/secret-papers-royals-veto-bills
  20. Think I managed 55 mph on the Totton by-pass this morning. I've also been known to frequent Pirate Bay for old movies.
  21. Little Jim loved Chemistry But, alas he is no more For what he thought was H2O Was H2SO4
  22. Just finished Dominion by CJ Sansom. Alternative history story based on Britain signing a peace treaty with Hitler in 1940. Churchill goes on the run and forms a resistance movement while Beaverbrook is head of a puppet government. Some interesting themes on how Britain could have divided between the Hitler admirers (Lloyd George, Mosley, The Daily Mail and sections of the aristocracy) and the opponents (Churchill, Bevin, MacMillan, Attlee and the unions.
  23. My trusty 6-year old Inspiron contracted a nasty virus and would not boot even in safe mode. I booted it from Ubuntu CD copied any files that I wanted to a stick and then installed Ubuntu instead of Windows. I've now got a faster startup and shutdown, faster operation, no viruses and longer battery life. Most common applications are available free, Open Office will handle MS Office documents and you have a Windows emulator if you really need it. Who needs Windows??
  24. I probably took your ticket as I had a casual "cash-in-hand" evening job there in the 70's. Very under-rated band. Excellent live act.
