should we continue to play without wingers?
Weston Saint replied to sidthesquid's topic in The Saints
Actually Lallana was not asked to play wide rather than being instructed not to play wide. -
Davis – Did what was needed. Couple of decent saves and takes. James – decent game but I would prefer him right midfield Saeijs – immense and strong in defence. Perry – quite but effective Skacel – linked up well with Surman on the left. Looked classy and up for it. Lallana – needed to get down the right side more to give an outlet for James. Silky skills McGoldrick – told to play in the hole and was effective in both attack and defence. One of his best games. May have found his best position. Gillett – Some wayward passes but more than made up for by his work rate and tackling Surman – Some poor free kicks and corners at the start but a great opening goal and linked up well with Skacel. Just need the same width on the right now. Euell – His strength and work up front disrupted their defence and was something we have been missing in this league. Saganowski – class told. 2 excellent goals but more, he worked throughout the game. Subs Wotton – bought on to give us a bit more height at the back. Can’t say I remember him doing anything good or bad. Wright Phillips – When he was running the line warming up the crowd in the Itchen sung his name. You could he his confidence rise and a big smile to himself shows just what positive support can do. He went on with one aim, not to let the supporters down. Lively Liptak – Won every challenge when he came on. Looks a good loan signing and good cover for Saeijs & Perry. Referee had a decent game. Crowd were in good voice My worry was that we are still too narrow. Wotte was playing Euell and Saganowski p front with a diamond formation. We still need to get down the wings more and cross from the by line. Virtually every cross from James from a midfield wide position was cleared by the Preston defenders. Good game, deserved result, contented supporters. Now we need the same for Cardiff next week.

Right then..Who will do the job other than lowe
Weston Saint replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
Fully agree, my call was to those who just want to get rid of Lowe without thinking the alternative through. Anyway, lunch and then I am off to the game. -

I did not say change was wrong. I said change at any cost. Big difference. And our reduced income could have been handled better. -

Chairman will likely be a non executive and someone with a support for Saints but with a business and financial background. Bransgrove would be a good pick but he is too busy with RoseBowl plc development (Andrew Cowen has been very helpful to him in this respect) Salz may be another candidate but he has spurned previous attempts and is unlikely to take up the position without investment in place. Davies may be? CEO or Managing Director will need paying and I would have thought to get someone up to the task of rescue and driving forward we need to be paying something like £250,000 - £350,000 a year. (Euell goes at the end of the season so savings there will more than pay for this) He does not have to be a captain of industry but a proven track record is essential. There is a Saints supporter and season ticket holder out there with such qualifications but he is busy rescuing another company at present. I am unable to disclose his name as I have no idea if he would take on the task without investment. Another, Trevor Birch does have the proper credentials but he was approached some time ago and would not consider without investment in place. That will be our problem. Could Salz and my unnamed star be the future? I fear that without investment the answer is sadly no. But if we drop to the next tier of Chairman and Executives we are likely to get into the Lowe or Crouch experience level. Would we be any better off? Who knows. Change at any cost is not the answer. We tried that once and it was a complete failure and why we are in the mess we find ourselves. -
For me I align mostly with Nineteen Canteens views on this thread although I have no problem with peaceful demonstrations outside the ground to get a point of view over. I can understand um pahars views and he equally makes some good points and he might be right, only time will tell. I also read, with interest, Wes Tenders comments whenever he posts but what does disappoint me is when someone like him says they are staying away because of Lowe and Wilde. If they are staying away because of the awful football and lack of results I can understand and Wes may well say it is the same thing but it is not in my opinion.
-
Strange post this, it adds nothing to the debate. If you are suggesting Nineteen Canteen is connected to Rupert Lowe you are very wrong. If you are complimenting his new posting technique I agree with you.
-
Best way of attracting a buyer is to show the passion of our support by filling SMS every home game. What better advertisment. Not knocking the demonstrations before or after games, that is a democratic right in a free country but prospective buyers will look at the active fan base and presently that is not likely to be attractive.
-
um pahars actually was admitting it would be painfull "I am not saying it won't be painful" I agree though that the fan base will fragment if we have to start again as a non league club. For instance those like yourself in North Hampshire might start following Aldershott or Basingstoke rather than long travel to SMS or more likely some other smaller venue. Eastleigh will likely take some of the Saints fan base as we will no longer be perceived as the big successful brother. Just another likely fall out of Administration unless someone with substantial money comes in.

What Saturday's Echo in the shops 7:30am on a Friday!!!!!
-
No he is not in the loop. Told him more than he knew. Believe it or not until this season he had not visited the insides of SMS (corporate etc). He was very impressed with the stadium.
-
Just got back from the pub, well club. Was speaking to Ken Jones (ex Saints) for a short while. He cannot believe the position we are in. He was quite sad about it all.
-
Post Administration? No Academy, no Staplewoood, none of our better players, renting the Stadium, Div 1 with 10 points deduction and the possibility of more and Div 2 beckoning. Fickle supporters who will not come back in a lower division (unlike Man City & Leeds who kept up the support despite all that went on), probably a fly by night owner trying to live the dream on a shoe string and worse, more debt. In a nutshell, a bloody disaster!

Sorry Steve but Chorley was there and he is not a shareholder is he? He was there on someone elses proxy as in previous years as far as I am aware. Not sure about Perry Mc. Bearing mind all their posturing about plc's I doubt it but am happy to be proved wrong!

You leave her alone. She's a good girl she is. A good cook for a nineteen year old as well. -

Bill, just look at the world economics at this time. Just look at the number of building projects in Southampton being pulled at this time. Just look at the lack of investors whilst Lowe was not in charge (forget his cabel, if they had held influence he would not have been ousted in the first place - Wilde let him back in). Just look at the position we are in the league and with Administraton will certainly come relegation. Look at the Bournemouth evening Echo on line to see the problems AFC Bournemouth continue to have. Then ask yourself, would you be prepared to invest millions when you have already seen your own investment take a major hit due to world issues? -

Just a reminder Any club going into administration after the fourth Thursday in March will have their 10-point deduction suspended. If the club is relegated the points will be deducted from their tally at the start of next season. If the club stays up the 10 points will be taken off their final total. The club would then go down if the 10-point deduction subsequently resulted in it slipping into a relegation place. -
The click of the turnstile does that surely (but not for the corporate area through reception)

If he is so keen on Jacksons farm then surely he buys it from the Administrator without the millstone of a football club round his neck. Jacksons farm has an "agricultural" value only. It is outside the proposed development area for Hedge End and the likelyhood of any investment value is very very risky and many years away if at all. -
Hey that's an idea...can't he buy us!

Abraham Lincoln: If you once forfeit the confidence of your fellow citizens, you can never regain their respect and esteem. It is true that you may fool all of the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all of the time; but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.
