2 against Premier West Ham, One against Premier Stoke, One against an half decent Championship Cardiff, 2 against a newly promoted Exeter That is 6 in 4 games. Give the poor bugger a chance.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/7560885.stm Southampton head coach Jan Poortvliet has denied Nathan Dyer could be on his way out of St Mary's. The winger recently signed a new three-year contract but was rumoured to be attracting interest from Celtic. The 20-year-old has been named as a substitute twice this season but Poortvliet said he is in his plans. "I came here with the mission to build a young, strong team for the future and I think Nathan belongs to the team," he told BBC Radio Solent.

Paul Terry to leave at the end of the season

Equally, it became clear that some of the non-coaching elements of the First Team Manager’s role were becoming a distraction Wonder what he means? Inability to find good oversea's players? -
Paul Terry to leave at the end of the season
Weston Saint replied to Weston Saint's topic in General Sports
Hampshire Cricket Chairman, Rod Bransgrove said: ‘I cannot speak too highly of Paul Terry both as a coach and as a man. He has done a fantastic job in developing the culture of Hampshire Cricket into a highly professional organisation over the last 6 years. His fabulous partnership with Shane Warne helped transform the team from a mediocre outfit to a serious contender in all forms of the game. We had always acknowledged that this year was going to prove more difficult without Shane’s inspirational leadership on the pitch but Paul continued his coaching duties with characteristic honesty and integrity. Our mediocre performances overall this season have, however, been a great disappointment to him and the strain of prolonged periods away from home has also contributed to his decision. Equally, it became clear that some of the non-coaching elements of the First Team Manager’s role were becoming a distraction. Whilst everyone at The Rose Bowl will be very sorry to see Paul leave after three decades with Hampshire as both player and coach, it is our intention to maintain a strong connection with him and his Cricket Academy in Perth. On behalf of all our players, coaching team and staff, I wish him the very best of luck in his future career’. http://www.rosebowlplc.com/news/team-manager-paul-terry-steps-down/ -
Paul Terry to leave at the end of the season

Quite a polite chap though. Whilst it was raining during the Sussex 4 dayer here he actually asked my permission to take a few of the press upstairs to conduct an interview. -
That was my mischievous comment last night. In fact following a few PM's last night and a telephone conversation this morning I have grave doubts anything will happen. Anyway, off now, Rose Bowl work awaits.

Not so Itchen. The person who started the locked threads last night it a great saints supporter. He had been told, quite wrongly as it turns out, that no board representation was at Exeter and he felt strongly enough about it to post his thoughts. The person who told him has apologised. It was done in good faith. Bloody Exeter Stewards Anyway he can fight is own battles when he next logs in

In answer to Richmonds locked thread I remarked about perceived censorship by PM to both Steve Grant and Ponty last evening and had a reasoned reply that I am happy with. The originator of the two locked threads last night is a good friend of mine and although we do not always agree we are Saints supporters. There was talk of a "text" to some of the forum members last night. Not sure if my friend got one. I am not sure the content either but I can hazzard a guess. Bearing in mind Mr Wilde has confirmed he and Andrew Cowen attended I am beginning to think someone somewhere (and I am not refering to my friend) has an agenda and is trying to use some forum members. And no I am not prepared to disclose the PM responses from SG or Ponty. They will remain private. Suffice to say Ponty allowed this thread to run and Mr Wildes response should bring the issue to and end. At least it does for me.................

We will be up against a very good Birmingham side. A daw would be a good result at this stage. The guys are still learning how to walk. Running comes later
-
A fair point. As a Championship side with severe financial problems, if we have to sell to balance the books so be it. We will also have some players, who, if they make the grade will be ambitious and want to test themselves at a higher level. Nothing wrong with that. It is the present and immediate future (ie this season) my comment was aimed at.

"You will not win anything with kids" is a well used phrase. My concern for a while has been that the kids playing in the reserves were usually well beaten when playing more experienced reserve teams. I have always advocated that more than 3 or 4 in the side had to be the maximum. OK I appreciate that our precarious financial state and a new mind set in the club have forced the issue BUT have we turned the corner? Saturday saw us almost hold a decent Cardiff side away from home. Last night saw us win against a side buoyant from gaining promotion from the Conference to the 2nd Division. Teams with that winning confidence usually do well for a while. OK so the stats show football possession very much in favour of the opposition but the kids will learn from that. As a unit they will collectively become stronger and tactically aware of each others strengths and weaknesses and compensate accordingly. I am not getting carried away. We have a very tough test against Birmingham on Saturday but let’s treat it as another step on the steep learning curve.

Thanks Ponty. I am pleased my feedback helped

Poor show that neither Wilde or Lowe were there?
Weston Saint replied to tiger's topic in The Saints
I will do it before Trousers does Tiger, Tiger, burning bright In the forest of the night, What immortal hand or eye Could frame thy fearful symmetry? In what distant deeps or skies Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand dare seize the fire? And what shoulder and what art Could twist the sinews of thy heart? And, when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand and what dread feet? What the hammer? What the chain? In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? What dread grasp Dare its deadly terrors clasp? When the stars threw down their spears, And water'd heaven with their tears, Did He smile His work to see? Did He who made the lamb make thee? Tiger, Tiger, burning bright In the forests of the night, What immortal hand or eye Dare frame thy fearful symmetry -
