Footballers Rape Trial - Guilty & Not Guilty
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to Micky's topic in The Lounge
what's him being white got to do with anything? -
Yes you can increase match days revenues with higher crowds at lower prices BUT; > It is highly unlikely that a £5 reduction in a ticket would generate a significantly larger crowd - certainly not 18k more > Even if you do succeed in generating more cash over the season you've still got to pay back the loan and interest on the new development. SMS originally cost us £1k per seat. I'd suggest inflation, greater complexity and the disruption to the existing stadium (e.g. losing large parts of the ground during development) would see any new development costing nearer £3k per seat. So increasing our capacity by 16,000 would cost £48m. So you'd be looking at an extra best part of £5m per year in interest and repayment if paid back over 20 years. > Even if further development is feasible can the local infrastructure cope with an extra 15k people getting to and from the ground? This all points to an increase in SMS capacity being highly unlikely, it just doesn't make economic sense. If we stay in the Prem and start getting better and better then demand for tickets will increase - the response to this will be to increase prices, not extend the ground.

No the averages in the very first column is the average following for each team - you honestly think that Coventry take more fans away than Leeds and West Ham?
-
Think you're reading it the wrong way round. The averages along the bottom are for the average away following taken to each ground while the averages down the side are the average away following taken by each club. I read it as Pompey averaging an away following of 1,309, including taking 3k to St Marys. The average taken to Fratton Park is 1,504 but doesn't include the 3k that we took there for some reason. This must be the right way round otherwise, for example, Coventry would have the biggest away support in the Championship beating West Ham and Leeds, and double both Brum and Cardiff which just can't be right. Our average away following is 2,364 but doesn't include Hull away and Pompey away.
-
If someone could be bothered it would be an interesting comparison, although their average this year will have been boosted by having two local derbies which we didn't have when we were relegated.
-
"probably worse than the skates" is trolling. Saying that our average would be a lot lower if we weren't having a good season is fair comment.

This Charming Man in trolling for reaction shocker.

Brian McDermott being disrespectful
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to jasoneuelllfanclub's topic in The Saints
But he said "top of the league" not "top of the form league". Reading have only just gone top, compared to us who've been top for ages spending the odd week here and there in second. Being the front runner is always the toughest because you're a target to be taken down and opposition managers will motivate their players in that way. Ultimate, however, the table doesn't lie. The final standings will confirm who has been, on average, the best team in the league over the season. We might think that we'll do better in the Prem next season and played the better football but if they finish top they'll have been the best. But to say they've been best by a "long, long way" is over the top especially as it might still be us who get the title. McDermott is obviously a talented manager but don't quite get why so many seem to like him. The bloke makes Steve Coppell look animated, even after getting promotion - his proudest achievement in football - he couldn't even manage a smile. -
3 players you would take from the NPC
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
M Phillips - his pace would be a great asset especially away from home C Davies - probably thinks of himself as a Premier League player and will be looking to make a point J Mutch - a lot of potential Can't see why anyone would mention Rob Green. He is distinctly average and prone to make howlers, plus he'll be on big wages. -
The table doesn't lie so well done to them. Didn't appreciate the comments from McDermott along the lines of "since the 7th game we've been top of this league by a long long way".

like yeah but no but yeah but no but

lol if you had a bit more quantity then perhaps you wouldn't be on the verge of liquidation. Managed to "pack the park" lately? Pompey fans are like an especially dim-witted dog enjoying a pat on the head.

Can't believe they're not wearing wigs, bloody plastics.

Should Brighton be investigated for Saturdays game ?
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
This thread still going - absolutely embarrassing. In other news, the football league are investigating whether or not Southampton threw their two games against Bristol City earlier in the season after two terrible performances that confounded the form book...... -
Don't worry Clotterball is a tactical genius and a master of mind games so I'm predicting a huge Forest win after which Reading implode. We take the title and West Ham go up in second....... Seriously though, I'd love it, just love it if Forest get absolutely dominated but somehow sneak a win with their only shot on target. Can't see it obviously.

Wow you're boring. I realise that proving someone wrong about the logic of statistics a few months ago was one of your proudest moments in your life but I think it is time you gave it a rest. I'm not part of any brigade. The fact is that Saints are in second and just have to better West Ham at the end of the season. Maybe juuuuuuuust maybe a more sensible way to go is to ignore prior seasons points totals because they have **** all influence on the outcomes of the next 3 matches. Depending on how they do West Ham can finish on anything from 79 to 88 points. So Saints could lose every match and still go up but realistically need to get more than 85 imo.
-
I do get it thanks. If for example you're running in a race and you over take the guy in third then you become the person in third and so still need to overtake one more peson to get second and another after that to get first. If however you are already running in second place then you only need to finish ahead of the guy who finishes third. Do you get it now?
-
So it wasn't lots, just some. Not a brigade then? Calling someone a "pet div", nice, just don't moan about people being abusive to you. Given that Saints ARE the team in second, if West Ham finish on 79 points in third then 80 points would have been enough for Saints to have finished second ahead of them. Non? not exactly the stuff of "lunatic" proportions though is it?
-
Playing like that would have given us a win 5/6 times out of ten IMO. That's the beauty of football, its surprising and unpredictable. Something you are not
-
How does being wrong many weeks ago about needing 80 points make anyone a "lunatic"? How does mis-understanding the need to beat 2nd rather than 3rd make anyone a "lunatic"? Judging by the rediculous opening to this thread I'd suggest the only lunatic is you. Given that a "brigade" maintained that 80 points would be enough then I'm sure you'll have no problem on finding loads of forum usernames of the tens/hundreds of those 80 points would be enough? You're going to look even more of a tool if West Ham somehow contrive to lose their last 3 games. Edit - just looked at the second thread linked above. Only one person suggested 80 points would be enough, another suggested 80-85 would be enough, and a few others suggested a minimum of 84/85 points. The first poster to be unpleasant? CB Fry.

People going on about Reading's great tactics and defending make laugh. Fair enough if they had limited us to a few chances I'd agree but I really doubt McDermott's plan was to cede 70% possession, us have nearly 20 efforts with around half on target.
-
Some pathetic bedwetting on this thread. If I was "in the trenches" with some of you I'd shoot you before the enemy could. We played well but got beat by a team who rode their luck and took their chances. We dominated possesion, we had far more corners, far more chances and far more shots on target. sometimes **** happens in football but play Reading again tomorrow and we could easily win by a few. We're still in a great position and fully expect 3 points on Tuesday if we dominate Peterborough like we dominated Reading. Hopefully the Reading players, like their fans tonight, think they've already got the title in the bag. If Man U can lose to Wigan then Reading can lose any of their remaining matches.
