Inflation has been more than enough, putting 2011 spending back to 2008 levels is probably a 10% cut in real terms. You can also factor in the fact that the demand on basic services will probably have increased due to the tough economic conditions, that with greater numbers out of work council tax receipts will be down and that the contribution from central government will have been cut. Not as simple as you make out. -

FFS my heart bleeds for those poor bankers, never mind the fact that it was the financial sector that got us into this mess. You can argue that the Govt should've saved for a rainy day but before the time of the financial crisis the UK had one of the lowests debt of any of the major industrial countries. -

EDL 10,000 People March (Oh Ok then maybe just a 1000)
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to Gemmel's topic in The Lounge
Might have something to do with the fact that the number of student protesters was vastly superior to the number of EDL at any of their marches, plus the police massively underestimated the students but have heavily policed the EDL. Unless you're suggesting that the average student is inately more violent than the average EDL member? Now you're just fitting the facts to support your argument. There was outrage at the student attack on the royals, this was easily spotted in any of the papers. Yes there is a double standard but it is not liberals who have demanded such stiff penalties against football related violence - its the right wing press like the Mail and the Sun who always sensationalise any disturbance and then demand punishment. -

Burgers off the menu at Forest Green

I'd have thought that this was already policy at most football grounds. Hard to believe that there is any real meat in the burgers at SMS. -
I would've thought working for one of the main companies that interracts with the RN in your area of specialisation?

Turkish thinks that being liberal means who can't disagree with or criticise anyone. What an idiot. -
Britain moves a step closer to a corporate dictatorship
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to Sheaf Saint's topic in The Lounge
Indeed a key feature of the UK's industrial revolution, the rise of the US as the economic super power and the recent rapid growth in Brazil's economy, was/is a growing middle class/upper working class that provides a mass market for domestic goods and services. -
My assessment exactly.

Just when you think Dune can't get any more nuts you get proven wrong. Comparing the industrial extermination of the European Jews (6 million dead) to Britain's repression of the Mau Mau rebellion (50,000 dead) is at best f'king stupid and at worse akin to Holocaust denial. errr, yes they do.

OK, see where you're coming from. In that respect your response was a reasonable one. On the other hand two wrongs and all that...... -

It is irrelevant, policy should be judged on its merits or lack of. If the response to a criticism of a policy is "well the other lot would have done worse" then where do you draw the line? e.g. A: I don't like Cameron's plan on corporation tax; B: What? well what about Harold Wilson! -

I don't think pointing out Labour's failings has any relevance to be honest. Just because Labour did some crap things before doesn't mean we shouldn't hold the Tories to account. I've not been impressed with Cameron so far and I didn't vote Labour so whatever Labour did or didn't know is irrelevant. -
I think that says everything anyone needs to know. That you can concieve that the Nazis - who were intent on exterminating an entire race (and succeeded in killing 6 million of that race), as well as attempting to enslave several other nations and being responsible for muderering many millions more - might have delivered in your view a better world, shows what a sick idiot you are.

Surely the original question can only be answered when we all agree on what political correctness actually is?
-
This has got to be biggest load of bull**** I've ever read on this forum - and that's saying something. I'm with Verbal, this is anti-semetic rubbish. Another play on the anti-semetic lie of "marxist Jews are out to detroy Christian civilisation" that you might hear from KKK nutjobs in the US or indeed Nazis/neoNazis in Europe. JB - I'll grant you that you may not have latched on to the anti-semtic overtones here but surely you smelled the waft of bull**** anyway - I mean attempting to detroy the capitalist west by introducing political correctness? FFS.

Indeed. When you think about breaking even should be fairly simple. They get a massive payment from the Premier League, an expensive but small squad and little infrastructure (Academy etc). From a cash point of view it will be much different - how much of the parachute payment that helps them break-even stays in the club? any of it? just read the article about the supposedly interest Russian buyer. What f'ing joke. If he got turned down by Bompey I can't see him being that impressive. Loved the comment from one disgruntled skate who simply used the articles as a chance to bemoan the state of the taps in the loos at Fratton Park!

FFS, how can one not get sent to prison for molesting a child?
-
Not really. If you've made a loss you can carry that forward to offset future profits and avoid tax on those profits. Let's say you make an average profit of 10% of your revenue. Carrying forward your losses saves you a future 30% of your future 10% profit - 3.3% of your revenue. But you've actually lost 75% of previous revenue - so 75% versus 3.3% and then it's questionably whether you get the remaining 25% or not.
