What were these things that happened 'around the globe'? The reason the supposed birth of Jesus is used as a reference point is because the Romans eventually become Christian and the Catholic church which evolved out of the Roman Empire became dominant in Europe. If the West hadn't have been so dominant across the world over the last few hundred years then it is highly plausible that we'd be using a completely different calendar based upon the Chinese, Islamic or Hindu calendars - and they wouldn't be using the birth of Jesus as a starting point.

Nope, definitely not really Dune. Either that or you're trolling, pretending to be reasonable.
-
There is only one single truth, whether or not we can explain or understand it. Gravity existed before Newton conceptualised it, the Earth orbited the Sun at the same time that consensus believed the opposite.
-
Is that really you Dune?

Turkish - thanks for that one of the most interesting posts I've read on here in a long time. IMO anyone who parrots a tabloid soundbite such as "prison is just like a holiday camp" deserves to have their credibility questioned.
-
FFS I suggest that you should change your holiday destination. I for one have never been on holiday somewhere that resembles a prison camp.

I'm pretty sure that there is some sort of Vospers historical society, can't find anything on the web though. VT were bought by Babcock a year or so ago but the shipbuilding bit is now part of BAE in Portsmouth.

G20 'protester' was unlawfully killed

From following the case it was difficult to see how they could have reached any other verdict. Not that it will necessarily change anything, I still doubt that PC Harwood will face trial. They'll be some sort of arrangement between the MET and the CPS and Harwood will retire on 'medical grounds'. -

pretty sad but I guess there is a time and plaice for everything

Wow, despite drivel that gets posted on this site every day (myself not excluded) your post reaches new levels of ignorance and arrogance. Congrats on being so ill-informed.

I was waiting for some bright spark to come along with this brilliant line of argument. You are a truely skilled debater.
-
My original comment was in response to a poster who said that his wife shed a tear or two.
-
No the implication was that if you shed a tear for the wedding of people you don't know then you are a bit sad. Today's scenes clearly showed that to be true.
-
What like being so emotional that you cry over two people's wedding that are completely unrelated to you and you don't even know?
-
As a chippy republican I spent the day enjoying an extra day off work with family. I'm glad that I'm not such a saddo that I can enjoy life and don't need to live vicariously through people I've never met.

I got really bad sun burn there. I also cut my foot on a rock on the beach, I flew back to the UK (and safety) and my foot swelled terribly on the flight. travellers beware or similar tragedies may strike again. -

Wow, with first, sorry second hand experience like yours I reckon the Tories should get you in to consult both Health and Education. People talking about waste and efficiency in the Public sector always makes me chuckle. I've only ever worked in the Private sector and can confirm that even the (considered by others) very successful blue chips that I've worked for that you find plenty of waste and plenty of crap managers.

He played in the Victory Shield on Sky a few weeks back. Plays left back, classy on the ball and eager to get forward. Definitely one for the future.
