niceandfriendly Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 A bit like Wottes contract, it leaves me thinking "how?" We can't be in too much trouble if we're giving out contracts and taking on trialists.
shurlock Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 (edited) in the hole, a DMG replacement or possibly an indicator that many other strikers are on their way out? the OS didnt say he currently plays for a semi-pro team K.S.V. Andy_Porter Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 in the hole, a DMG replacement or possibly an indicator that many other strikers are on their way out? saintmonkey1979 Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Not when you look at his scoring record! True. 11 goals in 62 appearances. At 28 years old I think he maybe at his peak. Can't see how he will improve on what we have in Patterson or McLaggon, (omitting Rasiak and Saga as I don't think they we be here for long) and would probably be cover. But at the moment we can't afford to be picky.
Andy_Porter Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 I really don't understand going for foreign players who have no English league experience. I know we're in no position to be fussy but i'm sure there are loads of conference, L2 and L1 players available for free at the moment who would be a lot more usefull that him. dockland Dave Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Well what do we expect? Michael Owen? Would anyone with any ability or any other choice of club want to join us? Mr Thompson we may be able offer you a contract next week if we are still in business. Sad state of affairs, but we have to be realistic
Give it to Ron Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Makes me laugh!! We seem to have written him off before he's arrived. Now that's a surprise.........not!!! Well come on look at his record.....last season we had 7 loanees come in that used up valuable wages that got nowhere near the first team. Do we have time to **** about with trialists that have amassed 9 goals in 4 years? Sorry thought this was a football forum where we could discuss this sort of thing. The club are wonderful, all players coming in are great.....happy now?

If he's sh!t, I would hope he would be shipped back on the next Flybe flight, however that is the market we're in, trialists and frees and we might be able to unearth a gem or two along the way (in League 1 terms, anyway). If he can speak English. If....he costs no money and eats very little.
shurlock Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 More than happy to give him a go and want him to succeed, especially when others in our team have been given plenty of chances and done very little. Still you rarely get something for nothing. Just as a comparison, Leicester this time last season had signed Bulgarian internation/Champions League regular Aleksandar Tunchev from CSKA Sofia. I'm not saying that we can or should follow in their footsteps but point out that some European leagues standards drop very quckly outside the top flight. Arizona Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 does anyone know if members of the public are allowed to watch training sessions? Last season Tuesday's were public viewing, provided there wasn't a match that evening. When I went there were only about 20 players training, but luckily they were the senior players, some of whom seemed genuinely pleased to see us. SaintRobbie Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Now jan-paul saeijs was a huge failure wasn't he... Disappointing, rather than a failure. Arizona Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 Schneiderlin and Holmes are not sh*te Okay then Schneiderlin - Offers the team nothing defensively or offensively, but is actually brilliant. Holmes - Made a couple of decent crosses in the first month of the season before setting up shop in the physio room.
shurlock Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 JP was obsessed with youth, so alot of the earlier, bag of s**te signings like Peckart were his. I think Wotte is slightly shrewder and has a bit more respect for experience. JPS was definitely his, though it appears he would have gone to the stake for Ryan Smith. He also tried to get Deeneboom, Blackstock and Scowcroft on loan which looked OK on paper.

Chez Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 (edited) Schneiderlin and Holmes are not sh*te Holmes is garbage, slow, has no trick, no engine, no workrate, doesn't track back, crap in the air, doesn't tackle, I'm not sure his first touch is all that either. Think Anders Svensson without the ability. I am perhaps being a little harsh but when he returned to the side he was appauling, woeful, no absolute utter ****e and a man that looked miles out of his depth. Schneiderlin has a great first touch, two feet and a decent passer. His workrate needs to up, he has to start winning headers and making tackles not to mention offering something gong forward. However he's only 19 and it was his first taste of English football so he should get more leeway than Holmes IMO. fanimal Posted 2 July, 2009 Share Posted 2 July, 2009 We are all still comparing our current squad to 2004 in reality, so quickly have we fallen. Holmes will not be Wayne Bridge, Chris Marsden or Gareth Bale, indeed none can compare lfl sad to say, but that is our level/standard now, accept it! cannot believe the vitriol from some at Andy Surman or many of our youngsters, Morgan included, shame on you for being so narrow minded.
