An unknown, but pleasant, feeling

Optimism. I haven't felt this way for many years.

Billionaire owner, debt free, all the old screw ball directors gone, and now a well qualified manager.

It may be league 1, it may be -10 points, it may be a rather talentless squad, but I have not been this optimistic about Saints in many, many years.

COYR!

+1 with the optimism .

But we're all going to have to be patient because AP will inherit a squad that is nowhere near being ready for the coming season in all honesty and he hasn't much time to sort it all out either . I hope and believe Mr Liebherr will provide Alan Pardew with the long term commitment and the funding required to build a squad we can all be proud of , a squad that can return this club to its rightful place in hierarchy of British football .

In spite of the scale of the task ahead in our ownership , our management structure and (critically) financially SFC is now in an immeasurably stronger position than it was 12 months ago , what a shame we had to fall this far before the recovery could start .

That club down the M27 better watch out because we're about to make the greatest come back since Lazarus :D

Although Pardew's record is mixed, there is no doubt that his 'stock' is probably above that of a L1 club with -10 points. No doubt he could have waited to the first round of Championship (or even Premiership) sackings to get a job higher in the leagues.

So what therefore attracted him to Saints? I would say it was partly down to the challenge, but there was no way he would take on that challenge if his hands were going to be tied, much like he was at Charlton.

So clearly Liebherr has outlined his plans to Pardew, and I'm quite sure that will include having money to spend on the right players. So I would expect to see a fair degree of movement in the transfer market in the coming couple of weeks. And I think the majority of the money will actually be spent on wages rather than fees; we need to attract some good quality proven players, and there will be quite a few players who's contracts have run out who will be starting to get a bit nervous about not having a club for the new season. So, given the offer of decent wages and a good challenge at Saints, we may see that some players such as Lita will be prepared to take the drop to us.

So, who else could we expect? Chris Baird is out of contract and I haven't seen anything about him signing elsewhere. Danny Mills? Rory Delap? Dominic Matteo? Pele? Sibierski? All are out of contract, and it is this sort of player that I would expect Pardew to go after.

Don't spoil the good feelings. Booked my ferry tickets yesterday! I'm even going to put my Saints stickers back in the car window (removed on a visit to P********h, and too depressed to replace) ready for my trip through Switzerland.

I think he will embrace the challenges that face him with our squad, he has been critical in the past of the 'prima donna' attitude within football, was it not him who was quoted as saying 'how do you motivate millionaires' ?

Yes for the first time in a long time, everything seems to be in the right place!

Good news owners, good young manager and a genuine "feel good factor" despite the -10 !

Never did I think I would get excited by L1 football - But I am !

He'd better find out quick or he'll ruin our chances for the 2012 Champions League campaign. Pardew out!

Bless you for calling a grey haired bloke who's two years older than me 'young' - the best news I've had in ages . :)

Wow, we've no debt, a newish stadium, a wealthy owner, quality manager, all now in place.

This is not a dream folks.

Now put the current first team as reserves and we can start again with a decent keeper already in place.

With a decent few signings it's looking positive.

why do we harp on about getting back players who have left. Its a new beginning I dont want those losers back. Lita would be an interesting shout though.

Yeah I too am feeling really optimistic. It's a weird feeling as I have been so used to the doom and gloom, but personally am really excited now about our future!

Im actyually looking forward to going tomorrow. I know we will get beaten by 4-6 goals but at least we can be confident it is a new start.I do hope there are none of the old faces in the directors box though. That will pe me off if so

Lita would be awesome but don't think he'll drop to L1. Wouldn't mind Whitbread from Millwall and Fortune to compete with Thomas for CB, Lancashire can be loaned to Bournemouth (I was going to say Aldershot but I like them) which is win-win because if he improves, he can come back and compete and if he plays like he did for us last season he'll be like Davenport and Jakobsson rolled into one and get about 10 red cards for that horrible little club.

Chris perry said on ssn that we would have a good chance of getting out of league 1 if we could keep Stern, Saga, Rasiak & Euell.

Thats ok but would Saga & Rasiak show the effort, committment needed for this division?

Especially Saga said he didn't want to play in this division after the final day at Forest.
