He's an odd one isn't he, he talks a good game and seems to have the right sort of character. I think attacking wise he has decent attributes, but I honestly don't remember watching a RB as bad as him in a defensive sense. 

Even Jack Stephens has been shown to be a better defensive full back than him.

The only non-top flight Saints RB who comes close for defensive shittiness is Jon Otsemobor. Both good going forward, but defensively shocking. The only hope is that the next manager, if he doesn’t sell him, actually uses him as a winger. He can put in a peach of a cross and can shoot as well.

Astonishing that Juric is still there after that debacle. The weed must still be going strong in the SR boardroom. At the Wolves game, our fanbase en masse and all of the pundits and media were saying WTF??!! on the selections and formation. What is SR uniquely not seeing that no-one else connected with the football industry in this country is seeing clear as day? Probably what they saw when appointing Nathan Jones.

This is so spot on it is staggering - the club’s management, scouting, executive not least Spors and SR board should be made to read it.

Obvious Smallbone cannot function in a midfield two with a lanky teenage body shape, it’s in a three or not at all. Or Will goes on the protein shakes and weights to have a body to compete, although he will never be Wanyama or Declan Rice physically. 

How many times last season in the Champ did we leak goals for fun when Martin did it if Downes was unavailable and/or Charles not selected? Ditto Aribo. Then Juric and now Rusk/Lallana repeat the obvious blooper.

As you say Glen, for guys on the salaries ours are paid to not observe this and simply stop doing it is just a joke. Whole club including the coaching and management, not just the appalling scouting, needs to fucking start pulling its finger out.

I made a comment on the match thread about the follow up from the penalty: glad that someone else is as annoyed as I am. As for playing Smallbone: do we have anyone with a stronger physique with a bit of pace in our club? At least the youngster Robinson had some pace..

Hopefully Shea Charles will come back to us next season and bolster up midfield.
I dont really like being critical of Will Smallbone as I feel sure he is a decent lad.
He might be OK as a bit player next season but he doesnt have the pace or physicality to be a starter even in the Championship.

I agree on Wellington, miles better than Manning, mystery as to why he’s not regularly started if fit. Sulemana just isn’t a footballer for me. A £22m, much poorer version of George Lawrence, Neil Heaney or Franz Carr. Stuart Gray underrated as a player....

Dennis WIse was only a caretaker.... didn't include those.  It would open up Kelvin Davis, Jason Dodd, Dean Wilkins etc

Great article as ever @L1Minus10 and honest, fair and objective about Baz. No slaughtering him and weak defending but that first goal shouldn’t go in period, it gets worse every time you see it and personally McCarthy has to start v the filth. No chance whatsoever with the free kick though, prime Gordon Banks wouldn’t have stopped that.

Spot on @L1Minus10 as ever. The recruitment has been too random again and not read the division we are in, yet again.

And if McCarthy is not playing v Boro then frankly it has to be that Still is being dictated to by the SR board in which case he shouldn’t ever be in a first team management role, or that Macca is injured. Even then, shudder, I’d probably play George Long.

There’s a sentence I never thought I’d be writing.

Yes a sentence you should not be saying, as we should have bought a replacement 1st choice keeper.

Yes we should, but you’re forgetting that wouldve got in the way of the “Baz Proejct” that’s still clearly in full flow within the boardroom, whereby he needs to be showcased as a good goalkeeper, and whereby it definitely wasn’t a mistake to sign him because he definitely is not absolute crap. Signing anyone better than him (not a difficult task), would’ve thrown this project into jeopardy.
