Um Bongo Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 (edited) What an awful atmosphere! Got the win, but boy did we make hard work of it. Started off bit shakey, with them hitting the post. Soon found our feet and had a decent spell of pressure, their keeping pulling off two good saves. Then seem to let them come back into the game (And they should have been at least 1-0 up) One of their players went down in the box, local radio said it was a penalty, it wasn't. Then we got two quick goals. I was slating Wiago all first half and then he scored, with a good finish. Lallana just can't stop scoring. Second half, we didn't really seem to push on. Was never comfertable being just 2-0 up, and got the vital 3rd (Not sure if it crossed the line but hey ho) Let them back into it with a weak goal, and they pretty much ran the game for the rest. Should have had a penalty when Harding was brought down. They go down the other end and ref spots a handball (Looked like the right call). Thankfully only 30 seconds left. Ref was awful and didn't give us anything at all! Player ratings coming up. Bart - Didn't look too confident, nearly killed Perry with an air kick. 6/10 Murty - So much better then James. Still short of fitness but did well. 7/10 Jaidi - Won nearly everything in the air. 7/10 Perry - Shakey, but understandable after not playing for so long. 6/10 Harding - Did well, linked up with Lallana well. 7/10 Waigo - good finish for the goal, not too much else. 6.5/10 Wotton - Got stuck in. Did well. 7/10 Hammond - Didn't put himself about as much as usual but did ok. 6/10 Schinderlin - Really don't see the hype with him. Not his type of game. 5/10 Lallana - Full of running, passing, you name it he did it. 8/10 Lambert - Did very well, won everything in the air and didn't get too much service - 7.5/10 Edited 28 November, 2009 by Um Bongo
Pilchards Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 From my stand it looked like Hammonds third never even went in. I heard so much about how good it is to watch saints away and today I was dissapointed with the atmosphere although we had two full stands. Btw Lallana is a class act, his vision and control is something else, even before the start of the game he was going to each player to gee them up. View From The Top Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 What an awful atmosphere! Yep, worst of the season but the whole game felt like no more than a pre-season match. Players never needed to get out of 2nd gear.
Pilchards Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 How does someone rate a player and watch the game at the same time. I would only give Hammond and Lallana top marks as they add quality to this team, everyone in my eyes had an average game.

Psycrow Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 They go down the other end and ref spots a handball (Looked like the right call). I watched it online here and I have to say after seeing replays, it was a bad call. Hammond's hands were down in front of him, the ball dropped behind their striker and hit his hand, he didn't even realise it happened, nor moved his hand toward the ball. Ball to hand if I never saw one.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 Thought we were very poor 2nd half, no midfield, giving he ball away constantly and we let Northampton boss us and get back into game we should have closed down. Midfield is Problem.

Midfield is Problem. Midfield is the problem due to the fact that they get no support from the back at all. The centre backs never move up to support the midfield, the centre midfield is always stood too close together but a good team is built on a solid spine. AP knows what he is doing. corky morris Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 I couldnt believe we were out numbered in midfield in the first half & we had 5 players in there. The 2 goals at half time flattered us & I thought we just relaxed too much when the 3rd went in. Mind you, I dont know what Lallana had to do to get a free kick today. Ref was very poor. I thought there right back looked decent & one to keep our eyes on. Good result though - onwards to round 3 we go.

John B Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 Yea away wins are usually very enjoyable but today wasn't. Very frustrating. Yes I feel a little disappointed not sure why probably because with the 10 point deduction we seem to be in a sort of limbo and beating a team 18th in League 2 is not much of a feat. Although Northampton did beat Southampton to Div 1 if I remember I saw them once at Highbury in Div 1 when as a Student I could afford to watch 2 or 3 football matches per week

Big John Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 Maybe not the best away atmosphere granted, but the Cobblers fans were extremely friendly and I would like to praise their stewards for the friendly banter and for not jumping on those out of control little kids who inveded the pitch ;-) at the end. Very restrained I thought.

Nexstar Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 Scrappy game but we ground out the result. I will be very surprised if Hammond's fully crossed the line and yes the atmosphere was pretty crap, but it takes more than an away cup tie at Northampton to get 2,000 people excited. Arizona Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 Carp atmosphere in all honnesty. I don't know if it was the cold, the quality of the game, the lack of glamour in the opposition club, radon gas or prawn sandwiches, but nobody seemed to want to sing at all. TBF to Norfants, they did have about 20 fans in the Southern end of the west stand singing. Did we actually outnumber them? I couldn't tell if we had the whole of the East stand, but if we did I am sure there were actually more Saints fans there.
macca155 Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 Just back It was too cold raise an atmosphere and with such a small but open stadium there was precious little chance of maintaining any sort of noise. Like the players it was all too easy. 2000 well drilled Premiership standard Saints fans, with an armoury of songs if required, against 30 or so teenagers who have spent their short lives supporting a dull league 2 side. We couldn't be arsed frankly just like the players who took their foot off the pedal when they scored three goals. I have a lot of respect for teams like Northampton and their fans, it can't be easy when success is measured by survival. They could sit on their backsides and watch Sky but they choose to support their local side just as it should be. Rugby is the main game in Northampton any way so the football club will always be second best. I still can't come to terms with the indignity of playing in the 2nd round. The cup has really only just started. It was an easy win but a bit ugly. Typical FA cup game important for them pain the preverbial for us. Saints are in the hat for tomorrow's draw and Staines at home will do for me. Macca

Looking down the pitch it puts you off when you can see cars driving along a road about 10 metres above the eyeline of their stand. I have respect for fans of clubs like Orient and Northampton too and I hate those arrogant chants of "we've got more fans than you" etc etc. We should be applauding these sort of fans and taking the **** out of plastic mancs etc - they are the real frauds. I rate him Duncan he certainly isn't the finished article yet but he has time and vision and we haven't seen that since Le Tissier strutted his stuff. He's the sort of player who needs direction from the manager otherwise he looks out of place. He's still only young and lets face facts we will need some class if or when we go up. Funny how players divide fans I guess it depends when you watch them. Macca

SFC Forever Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 Talking to a bloke last week from the playuppompey.net site and he was saying how surprised he was that we still had him. overrated french w****r he called him. I asked him what a skate would know and he said just because he runs a site does not make him support the site's team. I checked his site and it is full of hate filled blue boys. Nothing surprising there I thought but there was a couple of links on there to other sites. Anyway I have watched Morgan for so long and all I see is a player that needs a lot of protection surrounding him before he can play. Today he made a few nice passes but generally I believe he is wasted on us in this division.

shurlock Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 (edited) Some good banter with the lino where I was - some fan was pretending they were spurned lovers but generally a poor, poor atmosphere. Prefer when we're all housed behind the goal not seperated, with some of us stuck in a side stand. Anyway, it was too easy for the team and the fans - and that sense of entitlement reflected in our play and our atmosphere. We did what was enough and no more. Fair enough. Me I was still f**ked from Tuesday and wanted to be fitting fit for Wycombe and Walsall. Edited 28 November, 2009 by shurlock

hamster Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 How did the Bartoz get on? According to their MOTM choice he was not as good as their stopper (Let 3 in and get a pat on the back for it!!!), much to my surprise I must say. Bart did a decent job and imo he has a great opportunity to make the shirt his own now. Spread the ball around pretty well and some quick thinking to set up some attacking moves, most importantly i felt that he played in a very relaxed manner. Smirking_Saint Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 I think Bart will make a decent goalkeeper, but he first needs to sort out his confidence. Sometimes he seems so so shaky.
