Colchester away on Boxing Day

I'm thinking of going to Colchester v Saints on Boxing Day. Anyone been to their new ground before?

I reckon there could be a good turn out for this one, especially as Boxing Day falls on a bank holiday this year.

I'm not sure the fact that boxing day falls on a bank holiday is a coincidence! Living in Kent it's a relatively short hop around the M25 so I'll be going. Have a look at http://www.footballgroundguide.com/colchester_united/

Boxing Day is the 26th as usual. However as this falls on a Saturday it cannot be classed as a bank holiday. So the following Monday (the 28th) is classed as a "Substitute" bank holiday.

Happy to help!

Not true, Boxing Day is the first bank holiday after Christmas and has been ever since Boxing Day began. The day after Christmas is St Stephen's Day, which is usually Boxing Day except when it falls on a weekend.

Wikipedia will be happy to clear this up for you.

I will be considering attending Colchester's New Ground on Boxing Day, but I'll definitely be at St Mary's on Dec 26th to see us play Exeter. Mind you, trousers saying "as Boxing Day falls on a Bank Holiday this year" (and THIS thread http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=17687) suggests he knew exactly what he was getting himself into with this argument.

We've been through all this on another thread and I suspect I know why this thread has been started. In all my years I have never known Boxing Day to be anything other than the 26th December, butI shall probably be going to Colchester on Monday 28th December. I had a look at the train schedules the other day and it looks like engineering work on the Liverpool Street lines:

Looks a bit of a nightmare on the trains.

Going to have to get a bus to Ilford from Newbury Park (15mins), then the train from Ilford to Colchester (1hour)

Wont be doing Exeter on Boxing day, but I'm going to try and make Colchester. New ground for me, but whenever we play Colchester it is ALWAYS a completely sh*te game. I will never forget getting beaten by them 2-1 at home in the playoff season. Sh*te game, no atmosphere.

the day Jermaine Wright almost matched Steve Baker in terms of performance and subsequently got similar levels of stick from the fans.

Actually I thought that game had plenty of atmosphere, initially from the home fans are they tore us apart in the first half, but then from us in the second as we stepped up and tried desperately to get back on terms. Loved the old place, somehow I doubt the new ground will have the same appeal.

I'll be going with my sons as it's only an hour or so from me.

Antbody know what the parking situation is like there? I have previously been to Layer Rd but never the new ground.

You can't park anywhere near the ground as its situated alongside a huge business park/the A12. You're best bet is to actually use the multi-stories in the town centre and catch the bus in. There may however be some £3 match day car parks on match days but I try and steer clear of that whole area on a Saturday as it's near a hospital, ASDA and the train station.

I was on about the home game later on in the season, although I've heard the away game was equally disappointing, as were both games the following season and the 0-0 this season.

Think it was a Firday night actually. Certainly an evening match and we were on sky. They took the lead after about 4 minutes. When ten put pressure on until Saga got an equaliser after about 25 mins. They went straight up the other end from kick off and scored. Stayed at 1-2 for the last 70 minutes of bore-inspiring football. Wright was crap in that game too.

I'll be going - drove past the ground on my way back from Ipswich on Sunday. You can nearly touch the ground from the A12, what a great idea it would have been to build St Mary's on a main road :)

Will be going up the A3 and anti-clockwise on the M25 thru the tunnel. Should take a little over 2 hours on a good run

can you buy tickets for the away end from Colchester's stadium? I only live about 20mins up the road in Ipswich so don't fancy going all the way to southampton to get a ticket!

Just phone up the Soton ticket office and they'll post them out to you... Doubt you can buy away tickets from CUFC stadium (well, apart from potentially on the day of the match).
