Leicestersaint Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 Well done Saints - at least we won in front of a massive crowd, but we are still not quite there in terms of killer instinct. Cumbria Saint Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 Text from brother at ground says "Better team lost!" Still, it's the team that scores the most that wins ... and that was Saints! So, not only out of the relegation zone by Christmas, but also into the top half. I'd have taken that at the start of the season. sfcuk fan Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 from the solent commentary ... sounded like a good game, excellent crowd noise / atmosphere, good tactical substitutions by pardew ... all in all a good 3 points for a 3 - 1 win :-)

Tac-tics Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 Saints should be winning 99% of their home games this season. No disrespect to Exeter who sounded like they put a good fight up against us, they are a team we should of been banging them in against, had the chances in the first half. No clean sheet, dissapointing. Glad with the 3 points, not happy with the performance. Colchester are a much more direct team be interesting if we play our football or block their direct play out, last team to play direct was Brighton & we all remember that. Arizona Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 That's 5 3-1 wins this season (Southend, Oldham, MK Dons, Hartlepool, Exeter). We've also had 3-2 wins against Bristol Rovers and Northampton, where we let one in in injury time. We also lost 3-1 twice, against Brighton and Huddersfield. I hope we're getting a replacement then I still think Perry is a big big problem and will certainly be exploited by big'gish fast'ish strikers. What is more he doesn't last the 95 minutes.Meaning you have to keep back a sub when you could really do with a bit more punch at the front. Roll on Monday COYR Sorry MDM, only a few seconds of a friend's computer but you are almost definitely right and bloody amazed and proud at our support. Didn't Leeds manage 25,000 against us? Top of the table big club? Didn't Sky say mention that P'mouth took a very small amount to West Ham? To London on Boxing Day Saturday (?) for a 6 pointer. Jimmy_D Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 Just back. We were by far the better team in the first half, went 2-0 up, they had a man sent off, got to half time. We were completely off the pace the second half, 2 up and cruising against 10 men I guess, but that let them score. That stung us awake and although we still struggled a bit, there was always the chance we'd score on the counter, and bringing Papa on was a good move, defender looked like he wasn't moving at all compared to Papa bursting past him to score the winner. Good three points all in all and top half and only 7 off of the playoffs now, although having played more games.

We were cruising because we probably needed to be, 4 guys on 4 cards and a pig of a game less than 48 hours away.Sometimes you need to be able to take your foot off the pedals but still retain control. For Monday it would have been absolutely catastrophic if Hammond,Schneiderlin,James or Harding had got a card so we managed the game, taking on a goal meant nothing as we had Pap on the bench to bedazzle them at will. Whatever happens on Monday cards will mean nothing in the immediate future. Luton isn't important and if they get to the end of the year with no cards it's the amnesty until they get 10 Edited 26 December, 2009 by Window Cleaner

S-Clarke Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 Happy with that, obviously lost our way in the 2nd half (i think we just took our foot off the peddle, and Exeter sensed it) but i always felt we had more goals in us on the break as they pushed forward. We've gained on the top 6 again (albeit some of the teams didn't play today) but Monday is a massive, massive game - that's the real test over this xmas period....and i think we've got it in us to win.
