(I say no) 1) 100% yes, i know we lost at Leeds but, not a lot between us! 2) A reliable right back and a quality striker for cover! 3) -10 points is a lot of pressure, we have no room for a 'sticky patch' Leeds, Charlton etc can have a little slip and still be fine, if that happens to us with the points deficit its curtains!!! master Posted 28 December, 2009 Share Posted 28 December, 2009 IMO we had a poor start to the season, we didn't come flying off the blocks like we expected to. We are in good form, and as long as we keep winning, especially against the clubs above us I can see us in the play offs, but remember play offs is still a long way from promotion

Legod Third Coming Posted 28 December, 2009 Share Posted 28 December, 2009 I would like to see central midfield cover for Morgan and Hammond. Wotton is limited as a 'sweeper/holding player' and fair play to him does the job ok. We lack a more forward-thinking Lampard type who can do the job Hammond should be doing while Morgan sweeps around. Would also like to see another left back as cover/competition for Harding and potentially a striker. Although we have Papa, Connolly and Lambert, we lack a fourth striker with experience (I'd love Paterson to be that man but I think it's too early yet). It's There Posted 28 December, 2009 Share Posted 28 December, 2009 What we really need is "LUCK"! ie..no injuries to key players, post coming to our rescue when only leading by one goal etc. If Lady Luck is with us, then we have the attributes to succeed in geting to the playoffs. Mind you, it would be more fun if Leeds, Norwich and Charlton all had a dip in form and results..
krissyboy31 Posted 28 December, 2009 Share Posted 28 December, 2009 Another Right-Back and a better alternative option on the left side of midfield. Oh and a replacement for Trots, presuming he is going back to PNE.
Matthew Le God Posted 28 December, 2009 Share Posted 28 December, 2009 Current squad is good enough to get us to the playoffs. However... I wouldn't be as confident of actually getting promotion in the playoffs. If the squad remains the same and Saints play either Norwich or Charlton in a play off final it will be very difficult. The squad therefore needs strengthening to improve chances of winning the playoffs not getting there in the first place. By spending now rather than the summer gives players a chance to "bed in" so even if Saints don't go up this season next season will be all about going up automatically. If we do manage to reach the play-offs and Norwich happen to be their then I'll worry. Lets just hope if we do make it they go up automatically. Hopefully in january we get some decent signing's so we can give it a real push for the second half of the season. If we beat Colchester today I'll be over the moon!! Turkish Posted 29 December, 2009 Share Posted 29 December, 2009 We are not good enough, we haven't beaten any of the top 6 in the league this season, speaks for itself in terms of what would happen in the plays offs. We night get there but we wont go up. We cant just win a game 1-0, or get a lead and shut up shop, we need to score at least two to give ourselves a chance of winning as we always look likely to conceed. Strengthening the defence is a priority. Right back and Centre back with pace required. That said Pardew has done an excellent job in building the team he has, given the short time frame he had to work in so remains to be seen what he has up his sleeve in January. We should not be disapointed with not making the play offs though, given what went on in the summer and the fact its a new team. If we can add 3-4 quality signings, two of which should be in defence with a striker, Jackson and Barnard have been mentioned, i'd also like to see Jason Puncheon from MK Dons in a saints shirt, then we wil definately go up next season, probably as champions. RedAndWhite91 Posted 29 December, 2009 Share Posted 29 December, 2009 What do we need? CB RB CM CF That's what we need. I think we are completely capable of reaching the play-offs, but whether or not we'd go up is a different matter. The top six are Leeds (LOST), Charlton (DREW), Norwich (DREW), Colchester (DREW, LOST), Huddersfield (LOST), and Swindon (LOST). If we didn't go up I am confident we'd go up next year as Champions. With the right transfers and confidence running high there's no reason why we couldn't. Will be interesting to now see what Pards does in January. Unreliastic no, but perhaps a little over optimistic... something we've craved for years so it's not al bad!!! Mid table survival is fine this year, Pards has achieved that already IMHO... so why not let a little optimism have its day... so nice to have a Club we can believe in again. If we do not go up this year, there is no guarantee that we will go up next season either. We will be facing three relegated Championship teams (we are one this year) and the best of those who do not go up this year which will include at least three of the current top six (if not more). Either we can beat these teams or we can't. If we can't beat them now/this season, why can we next season? That assumes that we are the only team with the capacity to improve and I don't believe that's true. We might be the one with the deepest pockets but as yesterday proved that counts for feck all... I think our best chance of going up is this season. We have momentum and we have the squad. Next season we would lose at least one if not all of: Lallana, Waigo, Lambert, Hammond, James, Davis, Bart, Harding... These players are committed to the cause now, but that's because they can see light at the end of the tunnel!

JRM Posted 29 December, 2009 Share Posted 29 December, 2009 Hopefully he will dip in to his pockets, but its only worth it if we can attract the right players, and to do that we already need to look like we are on course for promotion. I know we signed Lambert and Hammond, but for a player to drop down a division we need them to be motivated by more than just money. In terms of the club being self sufficient, who knows over the next month we could get to Wembley and a couple of rounds further in the FA Cup, surely that would create a considerably larger income than we would have budgeted for at the start of the season. Presume both cups give more prize money for each round + sky money, + gate receipts. JPT final would generate quite a bit in merchandise alone. What is Jack Cork up to now? How can you call Exeter a poor side? I thought they played really well with 10 men, so much so you didn't notice they were a man down. They passed it around swiftly and accurately and could have nicked a draw. We need cover at right back, a CB and another forward.
