Dr Who? Posted 27 January, 2010 Share Posted 27 January, 2010 I cannot believe the amount of doom and gloom on this site. Back in June and early July I did not expect to have a league team to support for the start of the coming season. Then when we did kick off with a team that had been thrown together at the last minute, I thought we would find it hard to make mid table, and after the first 10 games, I did think that things would have to get even worse before they got any better (Another relegation) Then we startedd picking up with a very good run where the team clicked and everyone was fit and not suspended. We got off the bottom, and then out of the relegation zone, and then marched up the table to mid way. Even in this great period of the season we still managed to have a very bad spell which started with a defeat at home to Brighton. Again we are having another dodgy patch now with only 2 points from 12 away, but even if our home form has not been blowing teams away we have a great home record of late. I put this down to having a squad of players that are thin on the ground when it comes to fitness. This with cup runs in the paint trophy and the FA Cup seem to have had an impact on the players and perhaps their minds being elsewhere and taking their eye off of the main aim (Promotion) Now we have strengthend the team again with signings in this transfer window we now have one of the best centre back pairings, and the best forward line in the country.(We do miss Connolly) we still need a very good midfield player who can make things happen. So now these players have to bed in again, and with Hammond and Schneiderlin both being out at the moment any team would iss these two players. I have a feeling that by the time they all click it will be to late to make a late charge towards the playoffs. Right now I would settle for Paint Trophy Final, and maybe even beating the skates, but still have a feeling if we keep the team together for the start of next season there should be no excuses if we do not go up. I think we will as we have one of the best teams in the league by far. (Norwich, Leeds, and Charlton taken out) I just hope that the players do not read some of the rubbish on here after a draw away from home with two of our best midfielders being out. You only have to remove Gerrard and Torres from Liverpool to see this has the same affect.... and most clubs have the same problem. A team without a fit Hammond, and Connolly, a need of a rest Lambert, a new striker and now the suspended Schneiderlin are going to struggle!! I have not enjoyed supporting Saints this much for years, and yes we all want to get back to the Prem league, but give it a bit of time and remember the position we were in at the end of June and then again at the end of September. QUOTE] Of course some people get upset or discontented when we don't win EVERY game. It's human nature but in reality we 're not allowed to keep all of the 40 points we've won so far, and we should all know that it's going to take a real effort to get within striking range of the play-offs, but AP is still talking about it ..and I don't hear too much about ... " well, we did start off with -10 " type of excuses ..instead if which we plug on ...and it's still along way to May. As you commented, I've not enjoyed supporting Saints so much as I have this last few months, mainly because we've already won more games than we normally do in a whole season, regardless of the league were in. Right now I'd be pretty miserable if we were treading water at the bottom of the Prem. getting canned by Wayne Rooney one week and Drogba the next. I do believe we will achieve that Prem. status again in the future - and with a team worthy of keeping us up. It will take time but I'm not about to criticise all and sundry just because we are having an indifferent run, and we are still in with a shout in TWO cup competitions...really there's no pleasing some people :tfrag: Edited 27 January, 2010 by david in sweden

I am however content with the progress that is being made on and off the pitch, campared to the complete and utter diarrhea he have seen in recent seasons. I don't see a 1-1 draw with Brentford away (or Millwall for that matter) as being indicative of our overall progress which is why I believe some on here find it hard to understand the type of reaction which questions the players and the manager just because we don't go to these places and steamroller teams. Smirking_Saint Posted 27 January, 2010 Share Posted 27 January, 2010 TBF guys, most have you have probably read my posts, i am not a knee jerker and have very much kept the faith up until now. That is because imo we can no longer reach the playoffs, and this is half way through the season. If we had gave it a good go and just missed out fair enough, but we have won 10 wins out of 26, that is a terrible record for a team of our quality, what should we do as a team ?? I don't know, i am not paid silly money to make those decisions. I don't care about the FA Cup and only really care about the JPT as it will be a good day out, as less face it, when or perhaps if we make it back up to the CCC/Prem nobody will give two hoots about that achievement any more. I don't really even care about the Skates, just don't want to lose it. We should be doing all we can to push ourselves onwards, yes the club has moved forward behind the scenes but i can't see how our miserable league form is justification to 'we are moving forwad on the pitch'

Recent results would suggest we do not have more quaility. Some on here think that some how because we've splashed some cash (most of which has gone on two players Lambert and Fonte) we are so much better than the rest of the league. The table suggests this is not the case. The team still has plenty of players who failed badly last year, they weren't quaility last year why are they this year? It's nothing to do with the players in themselves, it's trying to fit 4 square pegs into 2 round holes.Lallana starts virtually every game,Antonio is a regular starter as well, yet when you look at the MK Dons JPT game we were probably better by far than last night, why ? because we started with 3 real midfielders and Antonio and Lallana partnered Lambert in attack. When you start with 2 front men and Lallana you have to sacrifice a real midfielder to make way for Antonio. That's why our 2 get overun by the oppositions 4 because Lallana and Antonio have no defensive qualities. Yes but when we discussing money spent we're not talking wages are we we've spent around 3mil. 2.3mil of that is on Fonte and Lambert. Harding was a free Lallana was already here, so was Thomas, Hammond didn't cost much compared to Lambert. My argument still stands who says our team is better quaility than the rest of the League? Just because it cost more? the league table shows there are better teams in this League. Edited 27 January, 2010 by doddisalegend
InvictaSaint Posted 27 January, 2010 Share Posted 27 January, 2010 Would it be possible to see a thread evolve without the self-important posturing from the "I'm right, you're not" brigade? It doesn't seem to be about opinions and respecting differences of said opinions anymore, just about ****ing on others' views and claiming exclusive rights to the moral high ground. The Brentford reaction thread was bad enough last night with the usual suspects slagging each other off for one reason or another; all rather tedious. Whatever happened to just accepting that views differ, but as Saints fans we are all essentially pulling in the same direction? I am hoping for a sensible reply from somebody, but am prepared to be told simply not to bother reading. Hey ho, things ain't like they used to be, that's for sure....
