St Marco Posted 20 September, 2008 Share Posted 20 September, 2008 "We are hard to beat, we have played really really well" (at that point we had lost 4 of 6 and had the 2nd worst GD in the league with 11 goals scored against, almost 2 per game) "We have only had one off day and that was against Blackpool, the performance against Ipswich was reasonable!".... "In the first half we played great and created a lot of good balls but nobody was there, nobody had the intention to be there" "It looked a little bit too lovely a way to play today and that is a pity" I'm starting to wonder if old JP has been in them cafes

um pahars Posted 20 September, 2008 Share Posted 20 September, 2008 Today we have: "I am very disappointed because we had the chances to score" Maybe I was too busy knitting, but I don't remember these chances to score. Did their keeper make a save of any real significance??? It's all very well offering up these platitudes, but after 7 games we have oly won once, only have 5 points and have a -5 goal difference. St Marco Posted 20 September, 2008 Author Share Posted 20 September, 2008 This is my favourite JP quote from the OS: "West Brom last year had just three points after 9 games and were eventually crowned champions" One word: 'Perspective' No offence but comparing us to West Brom of last year reaks of desperation and is quite sad really. Did they have any of these? - Had to sell/part with their entire 1st team apart from a goalie and a midfielder. - Have to rely 100% on the reserve team as their main 1st team - Have zero cash to spend on anyone at all - Have a system of football chosen by their chairman with a manager who has for majority of his career been in the 4th amateur league (think southern/northern league) etc.. etc... So lets be honest here, if they had those implications would they have gone on to be champions? You might call it "perspective". I call it "delusion"

St Marco Posted 20 September, 2008 Author Share Posted 20 September, 2008 (edited) And wrong too, because West Brom had 17 points after 9 games last season. Well there you go. So that really is a Jan Classic Quote then if it is not true However the morale is true, look at Palace last year i recall they were near the bottom for a few months. Then they started winning games and got to a playoff place. They did change their manager though. Not saying we should do that here but it is possible to put a run of games together and get away from the bottom. Im just unsure if the way we play means we can do that. Looking at the results for West Brom last year it would seem Jan must have been smoking something to think they were bottom. Their 1st 9 games last year Burnley = lost Preston = Win Sheff Utd = Lost Barnsley = Win Ipswich = Win Bristol = Draw S****horpe = Win QPR = Win Stoke = Draw So from their 1st 9 games last year West Brom had 5 wins from 9 and 17 points from 27. How Jan got to that they were bottom is pretty amazing. Edited 20 September, 2008 by St Marco

Gordon Mockles Posted 7 November, 2008 Share Posted 7 November, 2008 [Jan talking about the signing of Lee Holmes] Jan - "When I see him, I see Arjen Robben. He is capable of playing across the front-line and we might want to play three forwards so it's lovely to have him." Please, don't embarrass us! Holmes is ok but certainly not the next Robben. Why do our coaches persist in making us look silly. Is he that fast too? Jan professes he is. I didn't think so. It's be nice to have 2 forwards!! [i liked Jan's honesty in his response to Lancashire getting sent off] Jan - “I am very happy with Ollie Lancahsire because by conceding that free kick he made us a point. He had to give away that free kick and he got sent off." Honest, if not possibly the best thing to admit! Cheating or fouling to get a point! This is the quote that i got the two mixed with "“It is simple. We have to start in the right manner and there weren’t enough of us that started that way. “We’re sure that we’ll bounce back and put in a better account of ourselves on Saturday,” “We know where we went wrong (against Palace)" Edited 14 December, 2008 by St Marco

Big Matt Posted 15 December, 2008 Share Posted 15 December, 2008 Again, I don't blame Jan, the blame for our current plight lies with those who have mis-managed this great club for the past 4/5 years, and I include both Lowelife and Crouch. However, Jan's 'I have never seen a Championship match, but I think we can reach the play-offs' said back in early August, is a classic.

1965onwards Posted 22 December, 2008 Share Posted 22 December, 2008 Can't believe the sanctimonious crap being spouted on this site. Since when has being a nice guy made a man immune from criticism. If you take a job above your abilities and get paid a shed load of money to do it,you take what ever comes your way. To try to play a style of football that your players are clearly not capable of is the height of stupidity. Therefore Jan IS stupid. As i have said before,he is as big an egotist as Lowe,as well as stupid. He is sacrificing our club on the altar of his belief that he can get our players playing above their abilities. He is more interested in proving his point than looking after the interests of our club.Just as Lowe is. He can walk away whenever he wants, and he will not look back. Saints fans cannot do that. Yeah, that's just what you need when you're knackered isn't it! We're actually witnessing something pretty sad in many respects this season. I just hope he manages to get himself a nice comfy job back in Holland when this is all over.
