A great opportunity?

Was just thinking how great it would be to hear some news from the club early this week on new signings etc. now the England team have messed up and given us a miserable weekend. A perfect opportunity I think to raise the spirits of Saints fans everywhere. Agree?

Incidentally, I heard from a friend over the weekend that the stadium refurbs are going well and the work includes painting the roof it would seem. Pity there's no info on the OS about this stuff. Anyone heard anything about the Staplewood project?

why do we need to be told SMS is getting a paint job....

ffs, cortese out

I must admit I thought it did need a lick of paint when I went to the Southend game but I would prefer a RB and CM and a striker but I dont need cheering up.

I never thought we had much chance of doing well in the World Cup unless Rooney excelled

Signings to cheer us up after the WC exit? IMO that smacks of the stupid PR exercise from regimes of old. I think our current set up will announce signings professionally, as and when they are confirmed.

You must be a bunch of laughs on a night out! Good to see everyone's in cheerful mood and spirit, willing to engage in lighthearted banter. ;)

As a general comment (not particularly aimed at you Arizona), if you don't want to abuse or be abused, there appears to be little point in contributing as a 'full member' of this forum now. Meh.

Painting the roof sounds cool, red and white stripes i'd imagine?

Would take away some of the plastic flat pack feel of the place.

Painting the roof? If someone sits in the left window seat on Flybe descending into Southampton airport they could check.

Stupid PR exercises, you say Arizona? What, like releasing key club news at quarter to midnight? For all the good they've done i'd say this regime leads the way on 'stupid PR exercises'.

Thank goodness for CB Fry. A voice of reason swimming against the tide of idiocy.

That's hardly a PR exercise, they're just trying to wind up the Echo by releasign news too late to make the morning print (Not a policy I agree with at all).

What else has the club done? The booking fees and lack of instalment plan are a bit of a pain, but again they aren't a PR exercise. They've done the important bits spot on. Got a decent manager, backed him with excellent signings, backed Pardew up after some stupid baseless rumours and cut over a dosen inadequate players from the squad. We've also got a really good new one off home shirt, and by all accounts the away shirt is a cracker too.

And both will be out of date next season. It's just another way of ripping off fans at the end of the day. Whether you like the shirt is irrelevent to this.

What has that list got to do with "Stupid PR" then? That is the point I am debating.

How about a "fans charter" launched with great fanfare mid last season and then axed months later. Is that not "stupid PR"? What about the teeth aching teaser campaign for the new kit - harmless, but tedious and the dictionary definition of "stupid PR".

As usual on this forum one can never debate a single point, because you just get sledgehammered by lists of irrelevance. I've not said a thing about the signings we've made or the support Pardew has had. I've picked up your point about "stupid PR".

I am happy with the Cortese regime in the whole, but unlike you I don't think they can do nothing wrong. And their obsession with PR is at least as much, if not more, than any other regime we've had.

By the way, I don't ever remember any previous regime signing a player to cheer us up after a disappointing England showing at a tournament. Or anything even resembling that. I wonder what you were thinking of.

Of course it was said tongue in cheek slightly, but thought a bit of reverse physcology might do the trick and prompt the club to release some news. Some missed the point, but hey ho.

Anyway, heard on Solent this morning that there is a complete lock-down at Staplewood with no media presence whatsoever allowed in - not even Solent. Now then, either someone is over-reacting a bit, or there's one or more secret new signings starting training with the squad. Your guess is as good as mine.

I don't think he can do no wrong. The disagreement with the Echo and subsequent OS stories released at 11:30pm are a bit childish. I don't agree with this stand-off, I just don't give a sh*t. I don't read the Echo anyway and I am perfectly capable of reading the OS at 11pm if I want to. The lack of installment plans is bad for a lot of people too, although I'm not getting an ST and if I did I'd save up and buy it up front.

RE: Stupid PR exercises of old, have you forgotten "Total football". Putting Jan Poortvliet in charge and making out that we will be playing the same football Holland played in the 1970's. There was also the down right lies, like telling us we'd snatched Lee Holmes from under Derby's nose, when infact they'd released him about three weeks previously. And who could forget Morgan Schneiderlin and those stories that we'd beaten Pompey, Spurs and Arsenal to his signature.

The fans charter was written up by Andrew Oldknow, who has now left the club ( think of that what you will )

In my opinion since Oldknow has left Cortese has not employed a replacement, and instead decided to be the decision maker in every aspect of the business, including those he knows little or nothing about. Which is why it is scattergunned with mistakes, inconsistancy and PR ball-ups.

For the record, on the football management structure side of things and shaping the football side, I think he has done a good job, he really could do with a decent chief exec to deal with the customer experience side of the business.
