Farnborough FC vs Saints - 21st July

Do you think someone should let them know what league we're in? I know we'll walk League 1 but..... :-)

As the Reading team head to mainland Europe to continue preparations for next season, the Farnborough boys will be looking ahead to our next Championship opposition Southampton F.C. on Wednesday the 21st of July looking for another quality performance.

Farnborough 'confirming' that a full strength side is expected at the game next week....

http://www.farnboroughfc.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=844review-boro-vs-saints&catid=1:latest&Itemid=196

Southampton F.C. are looking to come to Farnborough with a full strength team on Wednesday evening.

Southampton have recently lost to fellow Blue Square Conference South team Havant & Waterlooville 2 - 1 as well as to top Swiss side FC Thun 4 - 2.

This has prompted the Saints into bringing a full first team to Rushmoor stadium to achieve a their first result of the pre-season. Alan Pardew has blamed a lack of fitness for the results but still remains confident in the performances his side gave.

Be sure not to miss this game as Boro are facing another quality side this time from the Npower League One and are looking for your support and preparing to put on a show.

Word of warming to anyone travelilng to this game. Farnborough area was still very busy yesterday evening at 7pm due to airshow traffic so "allow extra time for your journey" etc

(Airshow taking place all this week)

You might be better off coming up/down early and supping a few beers whilst watching the air display (c2pm to c.5pm)

So, who's going to the Farnborough game tomorrow?

I should be there. Will probably pop into the onsite social club (The Dugout) before the game for a pint or two. It was open to home and away fans at the same fixture this time last year.

Unlike last year, it looks pretty certain that we'll forward a strong team this time.

Tis my hometown (bar a few years spent up in Oxon), so I'll be walking over!

If we're going to be taking a first team, I'm tempted to make the trip,

Pardew dropped a strong hint on Sunday that it would be the next match for the squad that went to Interlaken:

"The Wins Will Come"

Posted on: Mon 19 Jul 2010

By Club Spokesman Jordan Sibley in Interlaken

Alan Pardew believes that Saints pre-season campaign will step up a gear following the defeat to FC Sochaux.

Saints slipped to a 2-0 defeat that flattered the French side, but Pardew was able to take a lot of positives from the game, which for large periods was an evenly matched affair. After facing two tough opponents in the space of the week, the manager also called for his squad to start picking up some wins, starting at Farnborough on Wednesday.

"We know we have got to go back to England now and pick up a couple of wins under our belt. The pre-season has been designed for that purpose, two tough games to put people into reality of where we really are, and now we come up against some opposition who are at a lower level and we have got to beat them. If we do that then we will be in good shape."

Farnborough look to be in a spot of financial difficulty.....

http://www.farnboroughfans.co.uk/forum.mpl

I knew they'd run out of money for the new stand they are halfway through building but sounds like things are running deeper than that (e.g. players being paid late, laying off their commercial manager, etc)

Hope they get a good gate tomorrow to help tide them over.

The Weekly Round-Up: June 20th seems to think it's a Saints XI playing Farnborough and Sutton, with the 'first team' playing Barnet, Reading and Eastleigh.

Excuse my ignorance (just this once!), but what/where is the "Weekly Round-Up"? Cheers

edit: ignore me - found it - it's Saints Player

Hmmm, yep, just watched that and it does pretty much confirm that it's not the first team going to Farnborough....which sort of contradicts that OS article I quoted above whereby Pardew (i.e. the first team manager) suggested that 'they' (i.e. the squad that came back from Interlaken) needed to start winning at Farnborough.

Hey ho. We shall see.

Hopefully they'll be ok, if they can sell Dean McDonald (who I understand has been on trial with Swansea), it could give them a nice cash injection. Now they're back in the Conference South it should mean better gates too.

Hmmm, not sure I see the logic of fielding a hybrid team. Means that the first team will have another week to wait before playing as a unit.

Perhaps a compromise given the Farmborough website were promoting the game as the Saints first team??

I'm still going. Night out and all that (one doesn't get out often!)

Will be interesting to see Butterfield first hand and how fit/sharp Connolly is at least.

And if that mystery Dutch chap will be there this time....what was his name?? The one with Lowe and Wotte a couple of years ago....

Saints squad: Bialkowski, Forecast, Butterfield, Seaborne, Martin, Dickson, McNish, Mills, Pulis, Holmes, Barnard, Connolly, Racine, Tafazolli, Reeves, Argent, Doble, Holder-Spooner.

Thanks for the info. Decent defence and strikers; bit thin in midfield.

I wasn't going to go to it but am thinking of going now seeing as it looks like that it'l be a mix of both the first team and the reserves/youth that have already been playing :)!

Will more than likely be coming up from Chandlers Ford/Eastleigh way soo which station is closest to the ground please and how much is it as well?

Thanks!

COYR!!
