SuperMikey Posted 10 August, 2010 Share Posted 10 August, 2010 Hypo, the reason i'm sceptical about this is because it's inevitably just going to turn into another "CORTESE HAS GONE TOO FAR FFS" thread. Whether it's true or not, it's a trivial matter. There is a good bus service running to the stadium (or the area the stadium's in) which goes from places like West Quay where you could park your car for peanuts. It's not the end of the world. ladysaint Posted 10 August, 2010 Share Posted 10 August, 2010 I posted this other day and got shot down but if you add to that the £3 charge for every away ticket booked i.e. f you are an away season ticket holder and use the car park at SMS for the travel club it could cost you in the region of an extra £300 a season to support saints on the road, unless they are giving dispensation to those that use the car park. The car parking charges are £10 for 8 hours or over and runs from 0800 on Monday mornings to 2400 hours on Sunday evenings.

What spanner of a CEO, who presumably what's the team to do well away fro home and pleased to see as many away fans as possible, just sees it as another opportunity to squeeze a few extra quid out of them???? JonnyLove Posted 10 August, 2010 Share Posted 10 August, 2010 I tell you what why don't you go and find another car park to park in on a midweek trip to hartlepool or carlile and then by the time you get back see how much that will cost you in car-parking. The club is a business what you all don't seem to realise is that it needs to make money and to make money they need to charge for certain things. Just because they haven't done it in the past does not make the seed of satan. £10 for a parking for an away game is actually cheep if you think about it. and the £3 booking fee is nothing different to say ticket master. So really people get a grip.

dune Posted 10 August, 2010 Share Posted 10 August, 2010 Given that i moaned for about 6 months about Rupert Lowe charging me £1 to park at St Marys when we played at FP the season we went down it'd be wrong if I didn't raise an eyebrow at this latest example of greed. £10 to park your car in a car park that would otherwise be empty - that is absolutely pathetic. I notice you write inner City rather than city centre, because beleive me not a single person would ever park there on a Saturday for another other reason than to watch football. As for the second part. Perhaps people will drive from somewhere like Fareham and then will be catching the coach up to Huddersfield. Simples. I do so love posters that tell others that they should suck it up when they themselves don't feel consequences of these decisions. This idea that its perfectly OK to squeeze every last penny out of fans is getting out of hand. Are you a ST holder? I'll assume you are. Let me put this to you. Smirking_Saint Posted 10 August, 2010 Share Posted 10 August, 2010 TBF there would have been no harm in keeping the parking charges but for anyone who had booked an away ticket and travel club give them a pass for the car park, i think that would have been reasonable. £10 is quite steep for some people, but i do see both sides in regards to this is a business premise aswell. Chez Posted 10 August, 2010 Share Posted 10 August, 2010 (edited) Was this confirmed by the club ? I thought they were no longer obliged to publish financial details. no it wasn't. But one or two respected posters suggested as much thats all I was saying. I have to say I think you have a bit of a cheak suggesting that I should put my moans to one side about these supporter taxes as we can't expect ML to keep forking out, yet on the other hand you moan all summer about a lack of spending. I put it to you that if the quality of player we need is not there at the right price we can't buy them yet I believe your argument is that we should have got the players in come what may. Well that's OK if you can throw money at the problem, but that would of course require a cash injection from ML. Buy the way I would imagine about 25-50 die hard fans will be affected by this. I should imagine these fans will do their best to find a free alternative so all this will do is make following the side more difficult. The term Club should be removed from the name. Southampton Football Ltd makes more sense to me. Edited 10 August, 2010 by Chez

OldNick Posted 10 August, 2010 Share Posted 10 August, 2010 i back the club in the main but i do not see why the club are going to charge fans who are going to games a £10 fee. They know these people are in the main diehards and don't deserve to be screwed but applauded. dingbattigger Posted 10 August, 2010 Share Posted 10 August, 2010 I agree this needs to be run as a business but I think the charge is a little steep as the car park would be mostly empty on those days otherwise and we are there to support the club. I live 18miles away from St Mary's so when my kids and I use the Travel club I do drive and leave my car in the car park. I think a charge of £5-£6 would be fair. GenevaSaint Posted 10 August, 2010 Share Posted 10 August, 2010 If true then I believe this is an excessive charge. I can't see anything on the OS travel cluib section in regards to this and can't be bothered to phone up as I never use the travel club. Is there not the option for users to the TC to park at some of the other pick up points for free? If the coach stops at Fleming park (I believe it does) just park there for free! Scummer Posted 10 August, 2010 Share Posted 10 August, 2010 I think it should be made clear that this isn't a cost specifically targeted at the travel club. This little factlet has been strangely overseen every time comment has been posted on here about car parking. SFC has every right to use its land to best of its advantage, whilst maintaining a sense of fairness for those going to purchase stuff. I see no problem. Rut Posted 10 August, 2010 Share Posted 10 August, 2010 BUT surely the club should be doing all it can to help more fans get to away games & trying not driving them away. Maybe I am being a bit simple to think that more away fans would assist in providing more vocal backing & may help generate a better performance...better performance = better results ... etc etc etc Yeah that is way too simple. That is talking about the actual game and results on the pitch. I'd go as far to say the club would do well to seriously think about subsidising cheap away travel to all games (especially whilst in League One). Free parking at the ground and 5 quid on the coach to any away game - regardless of distance. It would be a loss-leader. In a black and white accountants spreadsheet it costs the club money - out in the real world you would have a lot of happy fans who will be more likely to spend their happy money at SFC. Plus 3,000 people bellowing out 'HAND BALL' is going to get you more decisions than 300. Extra points = higher league position = higher home attendances = more money. Going to football is quite addictive. You need to encourage people as much as possible to get 'the bug'. Not find silly little ways to p*ss them off. As an aside: some will say that travel-club support isn't 'real' support. The 'bingo bus crew' etc. Although they may not be beered-up and jumping around on their seats there are some diehard fans on those coaches. I spect some of the Coach-Oners have good claims to say they've seen Saints at the most grounds possible of the 92. I don't know what her name was but there was always some lady of about 80-ish who had to walk with a stick. Whether it was Pompey or Middlesbrough on a Tues night - she'd be there on the coach. Fair play.
